I quit watching after the first quarter of the video. I was expecting an apology from the police, and a guarantee that the officer would be fired, and all others investigated for allowing this nurse to be abused. He just plain attacked her, as she was calmly trying to explain why she couldn't do what he was asking her to do. This has nothing to do with police/nurse relations, or police policies, or whatever. That officer ATTACKED that nurse for no reason.

If there was not a video, the cops would have stuck to the standard "we followed established procedures" line, and no one would have been held accountable.

yep i mean there is a fine line doing your job as an officer of the law, then thinking you can do whatever you want, hospital patient confidentiality is a fundamental guarantee, and that officer violated that mans rights, and nurse wubbles 100%, i am so glad he was fired. it should have been made clear that any officer doing that would be fired instantly. i will never understand how these officers spout thee are upholding the constitution, but have zero idea how much sway the 4th amendment has in court.

When Nurse Alex Wubbels protected her patient, it wasn’t just because of hospital policy. Nurses are bound by ethics. She has an ethical responsibility keeping all patient’s information confidential. Crossing that line is enough for state boards to strip a nurse of his/her license. If a police officer is assigned to work with nurses, they, too, must be required to attend the exact class required of nurses. If not, the same scenario Wubbels suffered, will only be the beginning.

You may not get rich but you make a very good living. And cops unlike nurses are there to enforce laws and arrest. Nurses are there to help and keep their patients safe and keep their medical records secure. That Cop wanted her to break the law because he the cop wanted something. When she said no, I can't do that. He got pissed because she didn't do what he wanted. Sadly, this happens a lot with cops.

How about a Chicago equivalent in Finland? The police in the US are not perfect but to compare their job to police officers in small homogeneous communities is apples and oranges. This is all well and good as far as it goes. Nurses and LEO's must indeed be able to work together. This policy is good as far as improving the interaction between medical personnel and LEO's. BUT it SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN NECESSARY! There was already a policy in place that covered the situation. A policy that the arresting officer's own department had been involved in the drafting of. He was advised of that policy AND that it was approved by his own department. The hospital administrator was also contacted and he also told the arresting officer what was required. So, we have established policy, covering the exact situation, and approved by hospital AND department officials. There was a choice by the officer to ignore everything and arrest the person preventing what he wanted. This is false arrest any way you want to look at it. What I would like to see now, is the arresting officer charged with "patient endangerment" for removing a licensed caregiver from caring for an unconscious patient without ensuring the proper transfer of care to another licensed caregiver. That's what I would like to see now.

You know I can't believe the first chief officer had the audacity to say that we share the same field because it's nothing remotely the same. Nurses doctors and medical assistance took it ethical oath to defend protect and to protect the rights of their patients regardless if it's something they don't agree with their patients but they still respect that because it's that persons right to choose. They bring people back to life if it's that serious they mean the breaking bone and the assist on burns and bruises. Now the cops on the other hand, they put a gun on their hip and a badge on their chest and they think they're Above the Law and everybody else is beneath them when he has no more rights than I do to put his hands on me or anybody for that matter as he did Alex and I pray for that woman for her loyalty dedication and sacrifice for her patient. But as I was saying, the cops and I'm not judging all cops but within this country there's at least half the police force in this country or corrupt psychopathic with a very drenalin aggressive attitude and they demand you to do what they say to do when you have that right and you don't have to do what they say to do if you have not broken any laws and you can look all this up when it comes to your amendments and your constitutional rights, but when it comes to them instead of helping people and being what they were hired to do as protect and serve and to be peace officers not police officers because we don't need to be policed as human beings especially Americans in this country but when it comes to them throw the ones breaking the bones that the hospital nurses and doctors have to put back together they're the ones bringing people back to life because of a gunshot wound they did to a suspect for no apparent reason in the medical community are the ones banjan up all the bruises and scratches that the police officers put on there so call suspects with a gressive force and with prejudice.! No I don't care what day and officer has Karma he has no right whatsoever to put his hand on any human being or to extort money from them Rob them or imprison them for crimes that they haven't even committed as they write up some bogus charges so they can arrest people that they don't like. now I'm not saying everybody they rest is innocent because that's far from the truth but there are people who have fell victim to police officers Wrath because he's bullying them and pumping his chest in intimidation and aggressiveness and threatening so that they can go home and feel better about being themselves. There's no way in person man or woman should have that type of Authority or right to carry a gun in the badge that has a temperamental problem or maybe mentally insane because he can't handle insults or he can't handle a citizen know more about the wall than he does, but if a cop can't control his emotions when he's in the field he does not deserve a badge a gun or the fact to overseer and have authority over somebody else. if they learn to ask people to do something instead of demanding and telling them to do something, maybe they'll see it will go a whole lot easier than being an ass whole. God bless you Alex and I hope you can get over this because I know you might have fears when it comes to Cops now because of what this a****** did to you. just make sure you learn the law and your rights and protect yourself with intelligence because if they violate those rights they should be brought up on criminal charges as well as lose their job and the department County and/or state gets sued because of their actions and aggressive behavior and the lack of consideration and safety for others.

I agree, this chief words should of been apologizing to the nurse and hospital for his officers horrific offenses and the traumatic event they put this nurse through, I’m sure if any of you ever been handcuffed you know what I’m talking about, I was once for a made up charge and I tell ya it’s something I never want to experience again, I really feel for this nurse, & that’s the problem with law enforcement they either hire or brainwash their deputies to have no sympathy or care about Joe citizens they are trained that we’re the enemy and they are god and can do whatever & wherever they want to us. Well I say no more! I will do everything in my power to try and make a change at least a start in my community and WE THE PEOPLE can make a change, there’s strength in numbers people, but we all have to stop being couch advocates and put feet in the street, the constitution is made for us it’s time we start making law enforcement honor their oath to it! It’s easy to voiceover opinion here and a day later go about our business and say “ boy I’m glad that didn’t happen to me” but what if one day it does or to our love one then I bet we do something about it. I would like to see what we dish out in salaries to cops every year ! Every video I see of abusive cops there’s never just 1 at a seen always 2-3-4 or more for a minor traffic offense, so if this many cops have nothing better to do than to rush over to intimidate and that’s exactly what it is intimidation then there needs to be some thinning of the force. Sorry for the rant I’m just upset at what these cops did to this nurse, my sister is a er nurse and know what she goes though everyday and to have a fucking pig like this pig YES PIG NOT A COP IN MY BOOK do to her what he did if I were there jail or no jail that cop would’ve picking up his teeth after he laid 1 finger on her! Exactly what the security should of done! Pussys! They should of took her to a private office and locked the door behind them I’m done now sorry again for the rant! And if the nurse should happen to read this my heart goes out to you and so sorry you had to go through this, I hope you sued the shit out of that cop shop! And if you can do anything on a personal level to that cop that laid hands on you I would do that also! Use this instance as a learning one , do everything to the fullest so no one will consider ever doing this to another nurse! God Bless all & Be Safe!

The problem I see here is these Captain ,Chief of police all sound good but they’re not the ones standing in the lobby violating someone’s rights, abusing someone, training their officers before they step into lobbies needs to be strictly in forced.

Mike Brown is just trying to cover his department. All this seeking help is just a smoke screen. There was a policy in place...it had been done by the hospital and SLPD. The failure of the officers involved to know the policy and law is inexcusable. The chief has a training problem in his department...his officers ar ignorant of the law. IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE !!! The lieutenant should have been fired. His ignorance of the law is profound. His actions warranted termination. Chief Brown needs to accept responsibility for the actions of his officers and his department.

No need for a new policy, the original policy was very clear, the cops just didn't like the answer the nurse gave them. The 'cop' should have arrested himself and placed himself in a time out in the back of the cruiser for false detention/arrest or whatever that shit show was called.

500 pages of policy hmmm, what does policy 237 say? Don't know? Ok you may have missed that one, how about policy 17...don't know that one either hmmm. How do the police ever do anything in the SLC PD if they don't know policies? Probably need an annual test with a formal examining board challenging officer knowledge of the 'policies'.

Did nothing wrong and if that’s the case we do we need new PROTOCOLS ..???

Despite what anyone thinks, when a person gets arrested and are told that they have to submit to a blood draw or that if you don't piss in a cup then they will get a warrant and take you to the hospital and they will have you urine forcibly drawn with a catheter. As soon as they do something like that without your consent that is considered assault and sexual assault . You can file a lawsuit and win. I know of a couple of cases where the people filed and won. So have their badges taken and licenses revokes for everyone involved in the case. When a police officer does not know the laws that he or she have sworn to protect then that person should have his or her badge and weapons removed and should be prosecuted for any and all damages or harm they may have caused while they were sworn in to enforce the laws that have been set for the United States of America.

Smoke and mirrors. Police department needed to give the perception of taking action and it sounds like the new policy is basically putting a protocol in writing. I bet the policy is nothing but fluff. Police department should be grateful that the nurses association cooperated.
