So the motor ran with the choke closed. But when you open the choke to allow more air in, that's when the motor stalled.? And if I followed this correctly, then. it's because the jet was clogged and some debris was in the bowl.?

Yes because there is less air and with the jet clogged it still lets a small amount of fuel through the carb but when the choke is open the fuel to air ratio is way to lean

Sounds like it needs a carb cleaning
