It's dirt that would already be down there but for accumulating instead in this low spot. Not like he dumped fill dirt or trash down there. This dirt was bound for the mouth of the drain, and got a temporary reprieve because of the low spot in the curb, until the ol' Powerstroke showed up! 😎

You've got it! Plus I would feel worse dumping that directly down the drain rather than spraying it in. It is the same exact end result, but one I can rationalize! ;)
@JoelHershberger
@JoelHershberger 5 жыл бұрын
@@CopperCreekCuts rationalize it all you want, but all that dirt probably ends up building up in the storm drain system and then the taxpayers have to pay to have people go down there to clean it all out. Shoveling the bulk of it up first would have been the right thing to do. This is, of course, only my opinion. It was nice to watch, but all I could think about was that it was sending all that dirt and debris (grass, roots) down the storm drain. The music wasn't my favorite either, but that is personal preference as well. Just as many people probably liked it. It was still a nice video.

@JusBidniss
@JusBidniss 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think this cleaning added to the taxpayer's burden at all. The dirt he washed away would already be down there but for accumulating instead in this low spot. It's a small fraction of all the dirt in the area that's been going down the drain all along. That said, I do think a shovel would have been faster than 'slurrying' it to death. Then again, who hasn't played a bit on the job with a new tool? 😎

The music matched with the speed of the video, making it feel like a comedy film from the early 1900’s, the awful design of putting a drain at the *top* of an incline, the obvious exhaustion and cynicism setting in as the video goes further on. From the EPA website: *Section 301 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) prohibits a point source discharge of pollutants into waters of the United States without an NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit. Due to the fact that many pressure washer operators are mobile, it is not realistic to pre-determine discharge locations and obtain permits for each location. The most common method of compliance with the CWA is to prevent process wastewater discharges to waters of the United States. Examples of compliance without a discharge are vacuuming up the process wastewater or berming the process water and allowing it to evaporate. An additional method of compliance is to discharge the water to an NPDES permitted sanitary sewer system (the municipality may have additional pretreatment requirements before accepting your discharge). Property owners can face fines of up to US$50,000 a day if the water used in a pressure washing project contains dangerous chemicals or is allowed to contaminate the storm drain system. The EPA is holding property owners accountable at an unprecedented rate. For example, in 2012, the EPA levied a record number $252 million in fines collected from civil and criminal penalties related to water contamination. That number far exceeds the $168 million collected in 2011.
@umpbumpfiz
@umpbumpfiz 5 жыл бұрын
@@stevestevensky I consider myself an environmentalist, but I don't see dirt, grass, or water as pollutants. I can definitely see objections to bleach or other chemicals from pressure washing driveways/houses going into the storm drains... but that's not happening in this particular video. But "better safe than sorry" is valid advice, especially in the realm of boring obfuscating laws and particularly with a Trump appointee heading the EPA.

Is that state law?? I've never heard of it. In my city, they don't give a tinkers damn. And I dint think it's a local law either. I am a former council member, and never came across that ordinance. I would never discourage anyone from cleaning something that doesn't even belong to them. I did this to my curbs, gutters and storm drain. Looks great.
@jdtaylor3953
@jdtaylor3953 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if it’s a state law, but in cities around my area there are signs on every storm drain reminding people nothing goes down drains except water. They claim grass, leaves, (we live on wooded property with mature oak trees) can stop up storm drains especially during rain. Signs even state about not putting used motor oil in drains. Code compliance is always on the look out for violators. We mulch our leaves, I look at it as free fertilizer for the yard. Most people either rake or use a bagger on mower but I find 20-30 bags of grass or leaves weekly depending on season to be a waste of land fill room.

Warped 65, ok, yes, I've heard of it. Thanks for the reminder. BUT, a law is useless unless it's enforced. People around here use the storm drains as trash cans. I found a whole bicycle in the one across the street from me. Ours are the kind that don't have grates, just a long open gap. My drain only had sand and small gravel in it. But I called the city and had them come clean out the trashed one. The street sweepers they use here don't have the vacuum attached, nor do they use water to keep the dust down. I live on a highway, but the drains are the responsibility of the city. And our city is pathetic. In the fall, is it the homeowners responsibility to rake and pick up leaves out of the street? With that said, I keep my gutters and the dirt and grass away from my drain. But it's too bad that more people don't. And, I power washed everything. Curb appeal starts with the curbs!

You are right, tying it down would be safer! All water runoff ends up in the drain anyways (like anyone's driveway) so not sure where else I could have put it :) Unless you mean it was against the law, that I won't argue. Just saying if you are going to pressure wash it is pretty much unavoidable.

@@CopperCreekCuts Not tying down was an immediate red flag for me when seeing the video. Here in the Netherlands you would be stopped by police for that. They will state that you are for bringing other traffic in danger and that is a big issue. And the biggest danger is for yourself. What will happen if you run into a head-on collision? Don't think your rear window will protect you for those heavy items going ballistic. For myself: I would have tied down to the point that you could flip over the vehicle and still are not losing those items.

Good video sir,I just came for all the negative comments from all the "pros" who would never do this or that and it makes me laugh honestly. I'm sure you did exactly what you were paid to do and the homeowner loved the work so that's all that matters really

What do you use to record? I really want to record vids like these cause I do commercial pressure washing in newly built subdivision houses but idk how to record. If possible I'd like something I can put in my head and record it while using my hands to work. Any1 know any gadgets that let me do that?

Like Teddy said, a go pro with a head mount sounds like what you want. I use a GoPro Hero 2018 on a tripod. Keep in mind that head mound videos are not as easy to watch for long periods of time. Until you get used to it you will find that you move your head a LOT more than you think you do. Also, even if you keep a steady head time lapse (speeding things up) makes head mount stuff less watchable as well.

Great video Brad. That pressure washer is impressive.i didn’t realize that Yamaha made small engines for power equipment. I’ve always thought that yamaha was the best of the 4 japanese motorcycle/atv manufacturers. I won’t rag on ya about the dirt getting washed down the drain.everyone else pretty much covered that,lol ! I knew you would get addicted to the power washing.wait until you turn a filthy house into the gem of the neighborhood.that will take it to another level. Keep the videos coming

Thanks for the feedback! I can't speak for your local infrastructure but the drains this led to are big enough to walk through hunched over. They didn't clog anything. And I washed the grass to get the mud off it. Otherwise it will dry on the grass and you will have a big dark spot. As far as leaving half a job, like I said, the customer never asked to do it or paid for it, it was just something I did for a video.
