@@CopperCreekCuts rationalize it all you want, but all that dirt probably ends up building up in the storm drain system and then the taxpayers have to pay to have people go down there to clean it all out. Shoveling the bulk of it up first would have been the right thing to do. This is, of course, only my opinion. It was nice to watch, but all I could think about was that it was sending all that dirt and debris (grass, roots) down the storm drain. The music wasn't my favorite either, but that is personal preference as well. Just as many people probably liked it. It was still a nice video.

I don't think this cleaning added to the taxpayer's burden at all. The dirt he washed away would already be down there but for accumulating instead in this low spot. It's a small fraction of all the dirt in the area that's been going down the drain all along. That said, I do think a shovel would have been faster than 'slurrying' it to death. From the EPA website: *Section 301 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) prohibits a point source discharge of pollutants into waters of the United States without an NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit. Due to the fact that many pressure washer operators are mobile, it is not realistic to pre-determine discharge locations and obtain permits for each location. The most common method of compliance with the CWA is to prevent process wastewater discharges to waters of the United States. Examples of compliance without a discharge are vacuuming up the process wastewater or berming the process water and allowing it to evaporate. An additional method of compliance is to discharge the water to an NPDES permitted sanitary sewer system (the municipality may have additional pretreatment requirements before accepting your discharge). Property owners can face fines of up to US$50,000 a day if the water used in a pressure washing project contains dangerous chemicals or is allowed to contaminate the storm drain system. The EPA is holding property owners accountable at an unprecedented rate. For example, in 2012, the EPA levied a record number $252 million in fines collected from civil and criminal penalties related to water contamination. That number far exceeds the $168 million collected in 2011.
@umpbumpfiz5 жыл бұрын
@@stevestevensky I consider myself an environmentalist, but I don't see dirt, grass, or water as pollutants. I can definitely see objections to bleach or other chemicals from pressure washing driveways/houses going into the storm drains... but that's not happening in this particular video. Is that state law?? I've never heard of it. In my city, they don't give a tinkers damn. And I dint think it's a local law either. I am a former council member, and never came across that ordinance. I would never discourage anyone from cleaning something that doesn't even belong to them. I did this to my curbs, gutters and storm drain. Looks great.
@jdtaylor39535 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if it’s a state law, but in cities around my area there are signs on every storm drain reminding people nothing goes down drains except water. They claim grass, leaves, (we live on wooded property with mature oak trees) can stop up storm drains especially during rain. Signs even state about not putting used motor oil in drains. Code compliance is always on the look out for violators. We mulch our leaves, I look at it as free fertilizer for the yard. Most people either rake or use a bagger on mower but I find 20-30 bags of grass or leaves weekly depending on season to be a waste of land fill room.

@TexasRose505 жыл бұрын
Warped 65, ok, yes, I've heard of it. Thanks for the reminder. BUT, a law is useless unless it's enforced. People around here use the storm drains as trash cans. I found a whole bicycle in the one across the street from me. Ours are the kind that don't have grates, just a long open gap. My drain only had sand and small gravel in it. But I called the city and had them come clean out the trashed one. The street sweepers they use here don't have the vacuum attached, nor do they use water to keep the dust down. I live on a highway, but the drains are the responsibility of the city. And our city is pathetic. In the fall, is it the homeowners responsibility to rake and pick up leaves out of the street? With that said, I keep my gutters and the dirt and grass away from my drain. But it's too bad that more people don't. And, I power washed everything. Curb appeal starts with the curbs!

@@CopperCreekCuts Not tying down was an immediate red flag for me when seeing the video. Here in the Netherlands you would be stopped by police for that. They will state that you are for bringing other traffic in danger and that is a big issue. And the biggest danger is for yourself. What will happen if you run into a head-on collision? If you pack a shovel that is even easier! ;)

Pro Tip: Never film yourself violating the Federal EPA Clean Water Act by rinsing waste water into a storm drain.
@CopperCreekCuts5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the pro tip! Once the EPA starts going after people posting pressure washing videos I am sure I will be more wary of it.

Some cleaning might be done with normal pressure water and hands.. so it's wasting precious resource "water" and "energy" to some extent.
@CopperCreekCuts5 жыл бұрын
Valid concerns! The waster is not wasted. What doesn't get soaked up by the grass/lawn goes down the drain and back into a natural waterway.
@ChakatNightspark5 жыл бұрын
Just idea, next time you do something like this. Bring a couple or so 5 gallon buckets. Flat Shovel. At least be able to Scrap off the worst of the Soil and Grass. so as to not do extra work trying to power wash massive amount
@CopperCreekCuts5 жыл бұрын
Excellent advice that would have worked much better. But then it wouldn't have been a pressure washing video! ;)

You dont have a shovel? How is cleaning the sewer from all this mad?
@CopperCreekCuts5 жыл бұрын
I did have a shovel, just didn't think it would make interesting watching.
@jayz43854 жыл бұрын
bro the amount of water/gas/time you wasted to clear that clear that chunk of dirty and grass...i would have just gotten a wide mouth shovel and their compost bin if not their garbage and chucked it in there....i knew this was going to be awhile so i put x2 speed on
@CopperCreekCuts4 жыл бұрын
Oh for sure shoveling would have been quicker and easier...but it would NEVER have gotten these views!

5 minutes with a flat shovel to toss the dirt back up into the yard..........

Should of used a shovel to pick up the bulk of that grass. Less mud 💁🏻♂️

I'm guessing you're not in California... if so, you'd get totally busted for washing all that grass and mud down the storm drain and possibly clogging it all up! 🤐
@CopperCreekCuts4 жыл бұрын
Florida, but no chance this clogs anything. The pipes it drains into are big enough to walk through hunched over :)

I also professionally power wash. That dirt doesn't belong in the storm drian. Little dirt, ok but don't push all that crap in unnecessarily. It's unethical.
@ramakrishnamishra81793 жыл бұрын
You even pressure washed the grass! It was looking so much greener
@the2060ish4 жыл бұрын
Ha if it was me I would of used a shovel on that grass and mud. Save you 15min of water use.
