@@PrestigeExternalCleaning I had a neighbour like that, I was having windows replaced and he did everything he could to obstruct the workers, then when I was having gutters and the uPVC stuff replaced, he started a fight and called police. He said I had "stolen his idea and must be listening to him and his wife talking by using big microphones on the wall". When I got the vertical blinds he made some false statement and had me arrested as his wife's dad was a police officer. I will never forget that, he got home around 5pm, noticed them and was screaming and shouting. He was just mad that I had work done and he seemed to think I should ask permission about what I did in my own home, the same as the rest of the neighbours he had rows with. He moved a few years ago fortunately, probably Sectioned for the protection of everyone. I can sympathise with the sort of people you have to put up with. My old neighbours had mental health issues and used to enjoy handing the workmen brushes and forcing them to brush any tiny little thing up. They used it to their advantage. That looks brilliant by the way. My new neighbours had theirs done and I wish they had told me as I would have paid the person to do my roof at the same time!!!!

On a serious note, this was rather unpleasant experience for someone who didn't do anything to provoke this and who takes great pride in his job. I am SO IMPRESSED! Really, operating a 20’ (?) long high pressure wand in wind with near-pinpoint accuracy - you must have the arms of Hercules! Beautiful job all around. A few notes … 1. It looks like dealing with a hostile public might be half the job! Kudos for handling both neighbors with such grace. Most of us would probably just escalate the delicate situations. 2. I hope you’re using non-conductive (preferably fiberglass) high-gauge ladders in your work. I bought a 14’ (28’ extended) aluminum ladder shortly after I bought my home, to do my own roofwork and window cleaning. When I went to use it, I was shocked how much it flexed just under my body weight (130 lbs)! When I tried to donate it to my painting contractor, he said, “thank you but no,” for those reasons. Between working with water, around utilities, and at such high elevations, your safety is paramount. Further, were I your mother, I’d make you wear a helmet. 😉 3. I’m curious how exterior home maintenance works for attached homes in the UK. It looked like the entire roof was continuously shingled, yet each unit is responsible for their piece’s maintenance after that? Would some sort of roof tile/shingle masking tape make the delineation between the subject property and the neighbors help?
@royboy68908 ай бұрын
The helmet remark reminded me of one of my bosses many many years ago. Our highest building was 200ft tall with a 30x30 ft flat roof and a 3 foot wall around it. If he's worried about that puddle, what's he like when it rains or snows? Also, nice outcome on the roof. I bet you won't be in a rush to return if the attached neighbour wants their roof doing to match.

Sometimes neighbors don't understand that allowing you to do your job will only raise value in the neighborhood. Overall it's only a small inconvenience to them. You taking the high road and staying calm speaks volumes...and maybe could lead to a call from one of them to go ahead and do their roof down the road. Nice work and great job showing us the before, after, and details in the middle!

This job creates a massive aerosol of crap that goes everywhere. A bit of notice, rather than telling his semi-detached neighbour as it was about to happen, might have avoided all this.

You have my sympathies! We have lovely neighbours one side, and whinging, spiteful, inconsiderate neighbours the other. I have to fight my urge to call the police all the time. That complaint was ridiculous. He’d get a bigger puddle from a normal English rainfall. He was clearly after something for free! Totally respect tradesman like Nick from Prestige Cleaning, for the undeniable results they produce and professionalism when dealing with members of the public. That neighbour wearing a skirt designed for a hotter climate, was most likely scared of the " magical " long black snake spitting water onto the roof and was worried it might come and drown & then eat him and his family. I work for a large construction company refurbishing social housing in central London, for the past 13yrs, and as part of the management team dealing with the public daily I have come to the conclusion 85% of the public are psychotic/mental most of the time, and even worse after Lockdown.
@robertshrewsbury5067 Жыл бұрын
Looked like your good planning saved you a lot of problems. You could carry your equipment through, laid down a good tarp to prevent messes and the roof cleaning looked good. Interesting how the length of your lance has to do with how hard it is to make sharp lines while working. Was admiring how you kept rinsing residue down the gutter and it sure ended up nice and neat. A kind extra to offer to replace a pre-broken tile. 21:46 is kind of fun, you have a double Grime Line, the newly cleaned area between two uncleaned ones...excellent. I would guess, that if a person is not used to competent help, a lack of trickery and general politeness, than your less than comfortable encounters still would serve as direct encounters of "real" behavior and good may still come of it over time.
