Pretty privilege is having the advantage of using your good looks to gain favourable treatment from both men and women. There are those who use their physical appeal with intention, and those who benefit unwittingly.
However, there is no denying the fact that there are those who advance in their careers, or who get to skip a line at Home Affairs, and get themselves out of payning a traffic fine. But we have to stop and question the morality and ethics of using your pretty privilege.

Great conversations. You hit a nerve when you were speaking about the stereotypes associated with being “beautiful”. I’m so glad that women have proven that you can be dolled up and still be a good doctor, lawyer, accountant etc. Looks should not be associated with intellect.

The concept of beauty is not as linear as society has been conditioned to believe, a lot of unlearning has to be done and I see you’re fighting the good fight by introducing different perspectives♥️

My grandfather was always so particular about color. He was very jealous of light skinned people. He was not dark skinned so I was confused about that. I found out that his lighter skinned siblings got more attention than him. He treated his light skinned children bad and praised his dark skinned children.

Sometimes some people are not even aware that they have pretty privilege. Like this lady she is not aware of herself, she is really pretty. We also need to understand that we are coming from different societies. The dark skinned girls were considered beautiful. I was always compared to my younger cous sister that she looked gorgeous than I did. When I went to the bigger cities from a small town it was different.

I used to be told growing up that I'm beautiful for a dark skinned girl. "o montle shem if ne o se montsho so" I had to consciously make myself look less beautiful to be taken seriously in my IT career because pretty girl were considered stupid or that they sleep their way to the top.

You definitely didn't HAVE to make yourself look less beautiful, that's something that u yourself chose to do. My sister is a very successful scientist, she's black, and her name is Keisha, she had to fight tons of stereotypes but she never once chose to be something that she's not and we were always taught to never dim our shine in order to make others more comfortable. She's beautiful with a perfect figure 8 body and people are always incredibly impressed with the fact that her brain is even more beautiful than her outer appearance. I went the opposite direction and majored in marketing but we're both beautiful and intelligent.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear that you had to make such a decision. It's okay you didn't know how to deal with it. We definitely all have different types of experiences, there's no one size fits all. I also grew up understanding that dark skins girls were much more beautiful. Then got exposed to other societies, who had a different idea.

It is really sad that dark skinned African women don’t know how beautiful they are due to society. If Africans don’t embrace dark skin, how can the rest of the world? Maybe this is more in South Africa? I don’t know 🤔. But there are plenty dark skinned women all over the world who ALWAYS thought they were gorgeous, & especially their dark skin--bc they were surrounded by people who made it so. We really need to change this negative self talk for the next generation near us for it to really change. No matter what media or folks outside might have said, dark skin women need to understand and embraced their beauty. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL BEYOND ANY MEASURE!

I love the guest but I don’t think this conversation was up her alley. She didn’t give much, from what she’s shared she has not been a benefactor of pretty privilege and that’s not her fault bandla

You have body priviledge. MOST of the women who experience pretty priviledge is due to their face. I prefer DARK SKIN women, I always have loved darker girls since the 1990s. How ever i dont believe in colorism. The reason being is because i never seen an attractive dark skin woman really suffering I love love dark skin girls. An i date yellow girls too. But just because your YELLOW dont make you automatically pretty. An just because your dark skin dont make you unattractive. But the key is facial beauty is linked to weight, If your bmi is 20 and under you will look pretty. If your a dress size 12 or 14...NO matter your complexion your face is not attractive. Now there are some pretty dark skin girls. But most are just average and some are below average. Now some women cant help how they look, they may have cleft look or facial deformity which is judged as 1/10. But trying to soup they head up like they pretty is dangerous. Pretty girls have a face that men stare at, if men arent staring at you in public places you not pretty. If your not pretty, Simply focus on your body, Get it fit as possible GET your stomach flat first and do core exercises and cardio Tone your arms and legs. If your skinny or slim with big breast, focus on squats and lunges, Get them really strong and build up your glutes. Men usually look at girls who are bottom heavy or skinny all over. i prefer women who are slim by self, skinny gets me excited. But i do like a woman who is skinny with a big breast. But a woman who has big breast and booty too match is my dream girl. i only dated one in my entire life who had both top and bottom
