Hey! I just wanted to say that I've watched all of your college videos and you're so inspirational and comforting and encouraging. I'm a senior in HS and I got accepted into my UC of choice but because of financial reasons, I last minute can't attend. I'm devastated and it felt like the world was ending, but then I decided to get informed on the transfer requirements and people's cc experiences and your videos have helped me feel so much better about my situation. My dream school is Berkeley and I felt like I couldn't get in before, but now I feel really encouraged about the next 2 years. I subbed so I'll definitely be keeping up with your videos, I just wanted to let you know that your words truly are helping people. Congrats on your accomplishments and thank you for doing what you're doing!!

+Vethea Cole Oh my gosh! That is so sweet of you to say! Thank you so much. It means so much to me that you would even comment :) I am so glad you like them! Also you can definitely get into UC Berkeley! I believe in you completely! I'm sorry that you ended up not being able to go last minute because of financial issues! You are incredible for figuring out a plan! I know someone else who couldn't come to a UC because of those same reasons and they ended up going to a cc and then transferring to UC Berkeley! Let me know if you ever have specific questions or video requests and always feel free to send me an email! :)

+Vethea Cole hey !! I read your comment and I'm in the same financial boat as you!! Initially I wasn't able to attend the uni of my dreams Berkeley because financial reasons and im current in my second year of community college and it's been a different world, like starting over and getting a fresh start :) There's so many clubs and opportunities to run for student government it's also motivating to meet new people who are ahead and can tell you the ups and downs and help you with letters of recommendation, I wish you the best ! -Marcy

1. If you're fresh out of high school... Think about taking 2 summer classes at community college. You're not a kid anymore, 'summertime off' is OVER.. DEAL WITH IT. By taking two summer classes right after your Senior year graduation, you lighten your load for you first fall semester at College. Its simple logic. (and do that every summer, then pickup a part time job too) 2. Make sure you're taking TRANSFER CLASSES, if you intend to transfer to a 4 year college.... AND.. Not all TRANSFER CLASSES are accepted to BOTH UC and CS schools... DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CLASSES. 3. PART TIME STUDENT SUCCESS. I was working full time and going to night school. I took 2 evening/night school classes per semester, YEAR-ROUND, for 3 years and I got my AA/AS degree, and three Career Certificates, in Elect/Mech Design Drafting and CAD. My pay when I started school was $8.50 to $9.00 per hour. 3 years of Community College, 1/2 time evenings, I got my degree, after 2 years more working my new job skills, my pay rose to $22. per hour... I more than DOUBLED MY PAY with a Community College degree. YOU can do it too.

hey! I just started community college, felt weird because people around me come from different age groups and most of my high school friends are going to four-year universities and living in dorms and I just schooling and going home... I still don't know about how to make sure I can transfer to my dream university, do they see those stuff like extracurricular activities, volunteering or internships or I just have to meet their GPA because my campus is really small and not much things to do...
@kimikochelsea8 жыл бұрын
I definitely feel like being well-rounded applicant increases your chances. I can understand how it's different because I totally felt the same way when I first when to community college. Eventually, I met some really cool people who were interested in the same things that I was. Also, if they don't have clubs, have you considered starting a club? That would look amazing on your application/something you can be passionate about and have fun doing.

But yes, certain schools look at extracurriculars very closely. Where do you want to go?

+prettyinpixie thanks for the advice!!! I'm in Virginia so probably gonna transfer to JMU or RU but haven't decided yet.. yeah by entering the second week I felt kind of getting into it like classes and people, but my schedule is kinda weird like sometimes only one class a day, but I will try to get involved in like u said and make it better.

Hey! I hope you are doing well! I am transferring to a university next fall. I was wondering how much of the college experience I am Missing out on since I will bea junior when I arrive in school. Did you feel as though you missed out as a transfer student? Does the "college experience" matter? Its just difficult because it is boring at my community college and I dont have any close friends. How does missing my first two years of university affect university life?
@kimikochelsea8 жыл бұрын
+MoviezfN Hey! I would say it really depends on where you live, what clubs you join, etc. It really is all up to how comfortable you are with talking to new people. Generally, people don't care if you are a transfer or not and they are pretty nice. As for me, I don't feel as though I missed out on much. You can definitely still have a great college experience within two years. There are plenty of opportunities open to you and you can take advantage of them all when you transfer. The only thing I suppose I missed out on is the fact that I can't be in clubs for the full 4 years. But if you are talkative and put yourself out there people will love to hang out with you and you can have the chance to make a lot of friends. I have one friend who doesn't live too close to campus and I think that has hindered his relationships a little more than someone like me ( I live very close to campus, so there are always people around that I know and who are close to my age, etc). So if you want to have an active social life I would recommend living on campus, or in a coop, or something like that so you can meet a lot of new people where you live/go to events with those people. At the end of the day, it's all how you carry yourself, how much you talk to people, and what you make of your two years at your new school. You can have a more rewarding two years than someone who spent 4 years there if you make the most of it :).. Does that help at all? I kind of touched on this in the "I got rejected from UCSD video" but maybe I'll dedicate a video to my social life at Cal?

I'm 13 and next year I'm going to go to community college. I know I'm really young but I scored pretty high on some test blah blah blah. Anyway, I've been pretty nervous about it, not only because I'm a 13 year old taking classes with 20 year olds, but also because I'm afraid these classes are going to be complicated. I'm scared I'm going to screw up and be forced to go into a regular high school, which I'm not mentally prepared for. This video helped a lot though, so thank you for posting it, and if anyone else has any tips for me that would be helpfull.
@kimikochelsea7 жыл бұрын
Hey, It is totally normal to feel afraid about new things! Congrats on going to community college so early though! I hope you'll find that while some classes might be complicated, there are a number of ways you can get some help while taking them. It's always helpful to know what types of tutoring services are available at your school (if you ever need them) and it is good to maintain a decent relationship with your professors because they too will want to help(office hours are amazing) ! I will be posting more tips soon but let me know if you ever have a specific video request! Best of luck!

Hi! My first semester of college didn't go so good and I'm going into the next with a 2.0 gpa. Do you think I can fix it before I transfer?
@kimikochelsea8 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I think a 2.0 is a good starting place to raise your GPA. If you can retake any classes that might be helpful as well! Keep working hard and it will pay off :)
