I had intra occular pressure elevated for quite a long time. Recorded as 25 mmHg early 2024. I started vit B3 as Nocotinamide from a supermarket. I mentioned this to my very experienced and science-oriented Ophtalmologist in June. He was sceptical, saying that there were insufficient clinical double blind placebo studies to validate this claim. Month later, he recorded 19mmlHg in one eye and 16 in the other. He said the intra occular pressure may vary sometimes for unknown reasons. On the 5th of December, my local optometrist recorded 20 mmHg in one eye and 19 in the other. That, in my opinion, is likely a systematic trend justifying my decision to continue with B3. Next check in 6 months. Thank you for this valuable information.

Just knowing is a huge advantage, it's a hidden timebomb for many. Drops can make a huge difference, but I suspect diet can be even better. Avoid sugar... that never helps eyes. It's why diabetics go blind. Astaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin, and bilberries seem great. I genuinely believe they have massively improved my vision, macular health, even though I have challenges.
@meggi80482 күн бұрын
@@Marek-o3u diabetics do not go blind because of sugar, they go blind because of increased glycation endproducts and other radicals which are high with diabetes because of high blood sugar.. the sugar molecule alone isnt the problem. but they arent alone high in sugar, they are also high in fats and high in proteins. its a metabolic problem, which can be caused by eating bad things. not only isolated sugar. much worse than isolated glucose is fructose. that can reliable make insulin resistence in short time. and guess whats in american food just everywhere? high corn glucose/fructose syrup. if you would replace that HCFS with just glucose, situation would improve dramatically. normal sugar is even allowed now again for diabetics, because in normal amounts it doesnt cause diabetes. its other things like fructose and rancid oils and highly processed foods with rancid byproducts and high glycation endproducts (AGE).

I have glaucoma, and one of the eyedrops I am using (Brinzolamide) really irritates the surface of my eyes. I purchased the Nanodropper when I learned about it on your channel, and it made a huge difference. Because the drop is smaller, I get less of the liquid in my eyes when I put my drops in, which means way less irritation. I mentioned it to my specialist, but she’d never heard of it. Apparently I’m still getting enough of the drug into my eyes, as my pressures haven’t changed. Interestingly, I recently had a visit with my regular ophthalmologist, whom I see twice a year so he can follow my progress and check my overall eye health. On the counter in the exam room I saw Nanodroppers on all of the bottles of drops they use for various purposes - dilation, numbing, etc. I mentioned it to his assistant, and she said yes, they recommend them to all their patients. Really cuts down on the cost of drops. I told her I already was using Nanodroppers, thanks to you.

@@ainihua8605 Sure, I was using Alphagan and Azoptic in the mornings. In the evenings I used both the same eyedrops as well as a third one, called Xalatan. After many years I changed to Simbrinza in the morning plus Simbrinza and Xalatan in the evenings. This is because they combined the same ingredients of Alphagan and Azoptic into one brand, Simbrinza, so it means less hassle and using less bottles. Works out cheaper and less stress to only use one in the mornings and two at night. My field tests are fairly good but I have a few blind spots in my damaged eye. I recently had cataracts removed as the one in my damaged eye was causing raised pressure which I never had before. I had lens implants at the same time so I no longer really need glasses, but the vision in my left eye isnt great but my right eye covers for that. Strangely enough, my blind spots now seem less bad but it is more of an overall blurry feeling, such as when a light bulb goes off and you cant see that well for a moment, if I close my right eye and see only with the left. I believe the body can heal itself to some degree, though they say you cannot repair damaged optic nerve. I hope to maintain the sight I have right now at least. I hope this info helps a bit, and that you can maintain good eyesight in future. Our eyes are an extremity and part of our brain, so I am aware that good circulation is needed for someone like me who gets cold easily and maybe good circulation does not reach the eye so well especially when resting at night, hence my having low tension glaucoma which is sad as I found out too late. I never had high ocular pressure but still got damage. All the medications can do is keep the pressures as low as possible. I don't believe there is actually a treatment for low tension glaucoma, as far as I know.

Doc recommended trabeculecotomy sugery on the bad eye, but we are holding off due to the cons -- higher risk of infection and not being able to do many outdoor things due to dust, dirt, bacteria and etc. My question is this: Do you think a low carb diet (Keto or Carnivore) would be helpful with glaucoma pressures and eye health? We have been doing a mostly animal based diet, very low carb for a few years. We are thinking, "If it's good for the body it'll be good for the eyes as well." The fast flush Niacin leads to basically no liver problems while the slow release version can lead to liver issues. If taken in higher doses I would add magnesium and a B-Multivitamin. There is a good chance that the blood sugar issue after long term supplementation is connected to a B1 (thiamin) deficiency which gets used up if one B-vitamin is taken alone. For the mitochondria to function properly long term, all B-vitamins have to be available to the cell.

In reading through the studies, it looks critical to get a liver function test as a small number of people develop significant liver damage. I also read that the doses are many times higher than a normal consumption and people with high B3 levels have higher rates of all cause mortality. I hope the research develops further and standardized programs can be developed. As I told my specialist, I don't want to lose more vision waiting for published guidelines.

If you read some of the comments you'll find that they recommend taking the flush niacin slowly a bit at a time throughout the day (to minimise flushing) and ramp up the dose over a period of months. Using enzymatic action is the same thing... only the release is even more gradual... so the flushing is minor. You an easily take 500 mg (or more) from day one if you're using the inositol hexanicotinate form. The point of niacin is to reduce intraocular pressure. Flushing and discomfort is just an undesirable side effect. 🙂

From what I've learned so far is that using Nicotinic Acid (flushing kind) does not have the side effects of Nicotinamide (non flushing). Wouldn't it be better to use Nicotinic Acid instead? I'm taking 400mg a day right now, but I guess I need to ramp it up a lot. I've been diagnosed with the beginning stage of Glaucoma. I can't get the eye pressure down with any natural remedies I've tried. It's around 27 in both eyes. I tried prescription eye drops. They gave me chest pain. My Glaucoma specialist dismissed that the eye drops were the cause, but once I stopped the drops the chest pain stopped too. And I've read some reports of older patients that got chest pain from eye drops. Anyway, I would love for Nicotinic Acid to work. I would endure the flushing, which is intense but thankfully goes away after half an hour. Does it still work if once takes this high amount in several doses throughout the day? Thanks for looking for new ways to help.
@MichaelCzajkaАй бұрын
500 mg of inositol hexanicotinate would be ideal for you. This is flush free niacin... but it still works the same as normal niacin. Enzymatic action releases the niacin slowly from an inositol ring... which is the reason you don't flush... or that any flush is minor. Take folic acid or aspirin to reduce flushing. Folic acid seems to work better and faster than aspirin. 🙂
@cajampaАй бұрын
Sure just do niacin in several doses in the day. The common dose is at least 1g X 3. Just make sure you increase the dose slowly and the body will get used to the flushing. I use that much and I have for a good while. My flushing is way shorter now and I actually kind of like it. Also look into glycerin it is said to lower eye pressure.
@Moni-ui5bzАй бұрын
@cajampa thank you. I took a 500mg dose at once yesterday and I looked like a boiled lobster. Feels like a major sunburn all over and the clothes hurt my skin. I can't imagine taking such high doses, wow. I haven't heard about glycerin, will look into it.
@cajampaАй бұрын
@@Moni-ui5bz You can get it as a powder, it makes it way cheaper and easier to take less and ramp it up as slow as you need. I made the same mistakes you did. Trying a high dose of 500mg from nothing my first times and it is very uncomfortable. Use way less and over a bunch if weeks slowly you get less and less flushing. You can try increasing the dose maybe once a week when you have found a dose you are comfortable with. And I really mean it, I quite like it now. It feels like a massage from beneath my skin. And it only last me maybe 15min to maybe a 30min now. And i get way way way less red also. I know that the clothes hurt on the skin feeling. Now it just feels pleasant like 60-70% good and a bit annoying because it is a bit distracting. But it took me months to get up to 1g X 3 a day. I think one the things that happen, is your body get used to that it is not anything dangerous so you don't get stressed out by it anymore, because you have done it so many times and it always just stops before you know it. And when you started with to high dose you get stressed out by it so you make it worse.

I've been taking Timolol and Latanoprost for 40 yrs. Why would these medications crystalize in the rim of my eyes? Could it be because I live in a dry climate? Thank you for your channel. I'm taking B 3 and when I run out of meds I have used castor oil on the outside rim of my eyes. It has never caused a problem. My last checkup the Doc used a wan to measure the pressure in my eyes. I read 10. I have never had any pressure less than 16 and mostly 20 t0 19. Do you think the wan is accurate?

I started doing acupuncture about a month ago and I've found that it has significantly reduced my eye pressure. I have an iCare home tonometer so I am able to check my pressures multiple times a day. I found that I used to have spikes of up to 30mg in the mornings and around 20mg/23mg in the afternoon. After acupuncture, the spikes are now up to 23mg in the morning and pressures in the afternoon are around 18mg.

I was diagnosed with normal tension glaucoma about 10 years ago, and have been on eye drop combos for even longer (while condition was suspect). One eye is more compromised than the other. I have been getting laser treatments about twice a year. I am so frustrated as nothing really seems to be affecting the progression. About two years ago I began supplementing with niacinamide (another form of B3) daily. I am wondering if the potential benefits of niactinamide on glaucoma would possibly be relevant to niacinamide. I have been getting between 2 and 3 gms daily. Supplementing this was for other conditions. I would like to know more. My opthomalogist has never mentioned niacin, red light therapy, or anything else for that matter. He says I could be blind in 20 years. I would really love more guidance. I would definitely consider switiching my B3 supplement and increasing the dose to the protocols you mentioned. Thanks, I appreciate your channel. BTW, the micro dropper(?) may not be suitable for latanoprost with it's limited shelf life... 45 dayd I think.

I misstated the laser treatments have been annually, not biannual. My doctor has been disappointed that there have not been long term benefits.
