India has been progressively moving towards a western dietary model including more animal products, more dairy, more oil, more sugars. The consequences have been quite predictable including obesity and rapid growth in the classic degenerative diseases including heart disease, cancer, diabetes. The lessons of good health of the past are being ignored in favor the psychology of wealth and industry influence. Let us hope that India relearns the teachings of the visionaries of their past and rekindles their strong vegetarian ways. And that means ideally whole foods plant based starchy staples, vegetables, fruit, no oil, no meat, no dairy.

I use amla powder and triphala powder as supplements as a cheap source of vitamin c. Jamun powder is harder to find in america. I usually use turmeric, onion and black pepper together for my daily soups. For rice, I prefer black rice and red rice over brown rice. I use cinnamon daily for both pumpkin, cereals and soups. Sometimes, I eat only 1 meal per day and it helps a lot in weight loss. Lacto vegetarians in India can be low in b12 so probably a good idea to supplement with b12.
