I’d like to see more kits have slide molded barrels and link and length tracks. Some people like Friulmodel or Rmodel tracks and RB model barrels but im tired of dropping $50-60 on a kit and then having to spend another $50 on tracks and barrels because I refuse to do plastic link and link tracks and the barrel seam is terrible. Last few kits have been the Das Werk panther and Tiger II and are great. Includes slide molded barrel and link and length tracks.

RFM is fantastic. I've built their Panther and Sturmtiger and am working on their Sherman, all were great. I love a massively complex build, RFM gives you ludicrous amounts of detail out of the box. The tracks are hilariously fiddly though. I've also noticed the German tanks of theirs that I've done have tons and tons of extra parts left over, so if you enjoy having extra bits for kitbashing, these are your kits.
@ModelNerd4 жыл бұрын
I like what RFM did with one of their Sturmtiger kits - rather than having a full interior (though they did release that version too), they had a partial interior showing only what is visible through the open hatches. So you get the shell storage and the gun breach and so on, but no engine or driver's compartment. A nice compromise.
@kevinjohnson82204 жыл бұрын
I would have preferred an engine compartment at least. But I can live without it. It's an excellent kit nonetheless, and miles past the older Tamiya or AFV Club kits

The Hyper Velocity Armour Piercing rounds have a waist because they are designed for squeeze-bore guns. Basically the round is squeezed down in diameter as it travels down the barrel, which increases the velocity to above the speed of sound. Modern fin-stabilised discarding sabot rounds have a sabot (shoe) the same shape which is discarded once the round leaves the barrel, leaving the projectile travelling like a streamlined dart.

I like the armor kits with interiors and clear exterior parts, so that you can see the finished interiors. Rye Field Models and AFV Club have made some really good kits like this, and I would like to see more. What I don't understand is when an armor model has a full interior, but no way to see much of it, because you can't see through the paint and plastic and leaving hatches open is the only way to see anything. Is it that much more expensive to mold a tree of clear hull or turret parts? I also like it when the kit maker gives you a choice of plastic or photo etch parts for some details. There are some kits where there are smaller details, and you are only given tiny photo etch pieces to make the assembly. If you have difficulty seeing these parts, or lose them, this can really make the kit less enjoyable. Then you have to look for spare parts or some type of replacement.
@joeshmoe99784 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% with everything you stated!
@derekbaker32794 жыл бұрын
I read that clear plastic parts...ones that are truly transparent & colourless like we see in this kit...are much more expensive to manufacture. This proobably explains why some/all of Border Model's kits & other manufacturers' kits don't provide clear periscope & cupola parts, and - perhaps - it explains the problem you pointed out (e.g some Takom kits).
@thundercho4 жыл бұрын
@@derekbaker3279 If the addition of the clear parts increases the kit cost by $5 to $10, then I'm OK with that. If a modeler puts the time and effort into building and painting the interior, why not show it off?

The Panzer IV is one of my favorite tanks of the WW2 era, would love to add the full interior to my collection. RFM makes a great kit as well, have their Firefly and Pz IV J already. But, and this is just me, their tracks are beyond fiddly, to the point where I think they ruin the kit. I nearly scrapped my Firefly and on the Pz IV I wound up going with Fruil metal tracks. Knowing that I have to spend another $45 for the tracks on top of the $75 kit makes it a bit of a non-starter. Shame too, would really like to have one.

Just received the Pzkw4 with interior detail from Andy, as shown in the video. One word, WOW! I am super impressed and was initially overwhelmed. Andy did not exaggerate the amount of parts in this kit. Had a quick fly by on the instructions which will take some figuring out, will have to pay very close attention during the build without a doubt! Having never built a tank with full interior this will be a challenge but I am up for it. At a quick glance the parts look very crisp and clean with several options to consider. I've had some difficulties recently with PE parts (also new to me) so any tips would be welcomed. I will go with the standard build as opposed to the clear pieces (also immaculately done) as I am not a huge fan of the see through look. In summary, this is going to be a wild ride for me, lol. Awaiting the T34/85 and have just ordered a Pzkw3 from Andy. Living in Canada I took a hit on the exchange rate and then got CAD$ 47 in duties, so much for free trade!!

Great review Andy. Regarding the interior kits it is a massive project to do a full interior tank, and it isn't always a convenient way to display them. I'd like an option for the basic kit where you can add a full interior, or maybe just the engine set. Obviously this creates a supply problem because the manufacturer won't be able to anticipate what they need to make, but it can't be beyond the bounds of modern manufacturing to sort it out.

I just bought one of that RFM T-34. Very neat kit! And I don't know why, but it's on sale from the beginning. So I got it for 3/4 of the original retail price. (The lowest price in the EU I found was 33€, I bought is for 24.5€.) I'm not really sure why it is, but here in Hungary we have a webshop which put on sale all the new releases. Tipically at least 10%, sometimes even 35% price reduction. My best guess that the suggested retail prices are so much inflated, that those are totally unrealistic. If they can sell it for much lower, and still produce considerable revenue.
