Ncuti’s powerhouse performance at the end of this ep was his first day on set after sex education wrapped. What a *beast* he is. Also, we should put some love on Millie’s name too. Ncuti gets the shine for that ending scene, as he should, but her decisions were so nuanced and understated, it kept her presence at the end from distracting from Ncuti’s performance, but still allowed it to be supportive and powerful in its own right. They both killed it SO hard in this ep. As did the actor who played Lindy, to be fair.

In case people had questions about the walking issues, they stem from the Bubble's rotation. They've learned to walk with that rotating anti-clockwise around them. That's why when she tried without it, she immediately speared to the right because her reference point was static. Enough time with it down, her brain got used to it. If you've ever used a treadmill - it's like when you get off one of those.

You must have missed Susan Twist, she has appeared in every episode since The Christmas special. She was at Rubys gig in the bar. One of the crew on the videos in Space Babies. Oh the acting in this episode was phenomenal. Lindy was an incredible representation of her society. Ncuti Gatwa killed the ending holy crap. But also Millie was wonderful! Ruby caught on right away what the other people were saying. She couldn’t do anything but to cry and comfort the Doctor. I wonder how many times she had to hear crap like that because her mom and grandma are black. And because lots of her friends are “not straight” She is a phenomenal companion and friend. I would do anything for a friend like Ruby. 🥹

The thing with not being able to walk without the Arrows was probably because the "bubble" is constantly spinning around them. Which would be disorienting. Once the Bubble is down, it would take time probably to get reoriented to the whole "world" NOT "spinning".

Ncuti gave an absolutely incredible performance in the last few minutes of this episode. The Doctor, for the longest time, always took command of the room, and people always made sure to follow his lead so they could guarantee their safety and survival. This was the first time that people had refused his help for absolutely no legitimate reason, and he doesn't know how to deal with it. For a Time Lord like him he can't grasp the idea of people refusing his help over something so trivial as preconceived class, appearance, and downplayed intelligence. Like the microaggressions these full of themselves rich kids were giving him despite him being the only reason why any of these people escaped the city alive were infuriating to hear yelled out to someone as patient as The Doctor. The physical performance Ncuti gave was masterful, especially with his facial expressions. At first I was confused why they made the situational main characters such big assholes in this episode but I'm glad they did go in this direction because they definitely went somewhere with it by the end of the episode. RIP Ricky. 😔 Gone but not forgotten. There's no resolution to the racism in Dot and Bubble. No big Doctor Who speech and no redemption; even the Doctor can only cry in anguish against the self-inflicted stupidity of it all. That's harrowing. Incredible episode! I'm giving it a strong 9/10!

I realized that that sounded racist, but since she was being a bit rude to Ruby too (even though in hindsight she wasn't as hostile to Ruby as she was to the Doctor) I thought that I was just seeing things and took it more as classicism than racism (as in, she sees everyone not on "her level" or "her bubble" as the same), but when that reveal happened at the end this was the first thing that came to my mind. Even at the scene at the end in the beginning of the scene I was a bit in denial (even though I was recognizing it for what it was I didn't want to believe what I was hearing) but when her friend said "That's voodoo" I was so blown away I couldn't pretend anymore. I spent the rest of the scene hoping for a bunch of slugs to just come out of somewhere and eat them all and the doctor just let them be eaten.

Ricky September is essentially performing the role of the Doctor. He does everything we'd expect the Doctor to do and Lindy Pepper-Bean accepts his help without any hesitation or reservations. Ricky's likability is intentional, as it illustrates just how hypocritical Lindy is when she shuns the actual Doctor responding in the same altruistic manner as Ricky. Of course, the only difference being Ricky is white and the Doctor is not.

New comers to Doctor Who see the Doctor act all goofy and crazy and eccentric, jumping to one thing to the next and trying to have fun. There is a reason. The Doctor harbors the darkest thoughts and the most painful of generational trauma buried deep inside. The Doctor always Lies, there is a reason why, if he stand stills and deals with the truths of themselves, the fabric of existence could be in jeopardy. The slugs or the racists a-holes weren't the scariest thing in this episode, it's when the Doctor grows quiet and darker inside that is truly terrifying.

I don't know how this episode/season will be overall examined after Ncuti's time is done as The Doctor, but, you can't say that RTD isn't giving this new Doctor and companion some damn great material, because Episodes 2-5 so far have been stellar work. 4. As for VR and expensive, the Meta Quest 3S will be coming soon. It should be around 300 and will have enough juice to play the Quest 3 exclusives .. Of which there is a new Batman VR game coming this year that is set between Origins and Asylum. Side note.. The regular Quest 3 is out now and much better at only 500 for the base model. Worth lookin into if your interested.

Villengard was only calling back to the Ninth and the Twelfth Doctor, it has nothing to do with this episode. The dot naturally learned to hate them and thus decided to get payback, it's not a Villengard product, they only make weapons. The woman in the ambulance and Penny Pepper-Bean look identical bc they're played by the same actress, who has had small parts in every single episode of this season AND Wild Blue Yonder from the 60th specials, which is where the real overarching plot stuff for this season happened

insane that the 'darn kids and their phones' episode was actually a brilliant commentary on the echo chambers of online spaces and how they stoke the fires of white supremacy

The best part is how it makes you confront your own inherent privilege. How many of us watching didn’t even have it occur to us that every character in the episode was white except for the Doctor?

Its actually really fun to watch others reactions, because the show makes it very clear from the beginning. The lightening for the episode was made to suit the Doctors skin tone (cinematic lighting is adjust to fit the skin tone of the actors) he looks good while everyone else kind of blends into their pastel clothes while he's wearing and bold orange. Basically any melenated person would stood out in his 1st appearance and since no one does its clear hes the only black person. The lighting and makeup for the whole episode makes the white characters look off

How have you guys watched through eight episodes and not noticed that the 'ambulance woman' (Susan Twist) has appeared in most of them as a different character? Especially when it's pointed out a zillion times in the comments....

This was a good ep, and I liked that it took the extremely unsubtle social media story, and threaded through a good lesson on unconscious bias and the ways we don't register racism. That was all really well done. I do feel like the slug bit of it doesn't work quite as well though...if the dots can kill them, why did they...create? enlist? the slugs to do it for them, much less efficiently? The actress playing the ambulance lady has played a different role in every ep so far this series. As much as I am looking forward to finding out what the deal is with her, a part of me would have been DELIGHTED if it was just never mentioned 😂

It stands out to me that the slugs are harder for the Doctor to deal with than technology. He could’ve just turned off all the dots if he’d known they were killing people.

The slugs eat people without anyone knowing, because by the time someone's getting eaten... they're too eaten to run. If everyone's bubbles started turning off and attacking them, people would start panicking, running, alerting others, etc. The slugs may be less efficient, but they're more likely to succeed across a large population.

This is why we can't have nice things. Clearly the episode is messaging how terrible it is to be isolated behind screens / bubbles all day and yet Jay craves it so even despite the risk of slimey slug death. Clearly a panel in the bubble should be able to turn transparent. Also, they need to be more specific about turns, 90 degrees or 45 degrees. Duh.🤔👍🤣
