The defensive matchups in this series are interesting to me. The Dallas Mavericks put a huge emphasis on protecting the paint. But the Celtics don't care about getting to the rim anyway, so how much will that really affect them? The teams that have done better against the Celtics have actually been teams that contest threes. Dallas is willing to give up some threes so they can keep Lively and Gafford near the rim. And on the other side, the Celtics have really struggled with good guards in the playoffs. Last I saw, they were the worst pick-and-roll defense in the playoffs. Part of that is that teams are attacking Horford. So bringing back Porzingis should help. But how mobile is Porzingis coming off an injury? Also, are you playing Porzingis and Horford in drop? We saw how that went when Minnesota tried to do that. And if you do bring Porzingis up to the level, can he get back in time to prevent the lob? I think you probably keep Porzingis in drop, switch all screens, and just hope that the person doing the switching can contain Luka or Kyrie a bit. And you live with the midrange shot rather than give up threes or a lob. Mazzulla is big into math, so I can see him just conceding the middle. You can't take away everything, and if Boston hits their threes they'll win even if Kyrie and Luka hit a ton of midrange shots.

Regarding your conversation around the second apron and home drafted players. This is something that's been on my mind for a while. I think an acceptable solution would be something along the lines of players that the home team draft, somewhere between only 60-80% of their salary counts towards the cap. That way teams are rewarded or at least aren't punished as hard for drafting well.

I don’t think it was an easy path but I do think that the teams they played were overrated. The Clippers were missing Leonard for half of a series and Harden, George and Westbrook are all past their primes, the Thunder are a great young team but their second and third best players were a sophomore and rookie this year and the Wolves looked like world beaters after taking out Denver, but as Jokic said, they matched up better against Denver than any team and were basically built to beat the Nuggets. Their best player is 22, their second best player is notorious for being up and down in big games, and just a few years ago their third best player was played off the floor by Dallas and Maxi Kleber. The Wolves defense was overrated as well and was partially the byproduct of a team that played at the 7th slowest pace in the NBA.

The supermax was created to incentivize stars to stay with their teams, but the Nuggets are screwed cause the SuperMax + 2 max players ALL going to played they drafted is constraining their cap space, and is going to force them to make some serious decisions. I believe the X-factor for this series will be foul trouble. Holiday is an all world defender, White is a good defender, and then we have Brown (who is also a good defender) and Tatum. The Celtics will not want Tatum on Kyrie or Luka and I don't think they will want Brown on them for long periods of time either. If Dallas can get Brown in foul trouble and get Tatum guarding Luka or Kyrie the Celtics will be in big trouble!!! The coaching will be huge in this series. Boston will also need a healthy and productive series from Porzingis to become the champs. With that being said I am predicting Dallas in 7.

The one thing people are not talking about.. Dallas has Jason kidd. He's willing to give up a game one to come back south a game plan. Kidd is a mastermind. The mavs haven't lost 2 games in a row the entire playoffs and they haven't lost a game 5 or 6. When they played in the regular season Derrick Jones Jr. Wasn't even in the starting lineup yet, he played minutes. They were still figuring out their new lineup. The NBA should make that the supermax would be counted only as a normal max deal if the player is drafted by the same team, this would be a good incentive to teams like the Nuggets, Bucks and so on and so forth, a way to balance all the restrictions the second apron has

@@TheChickenShorts Something like this, if the player that has a supermax and is playing for the team that drafted him the cap hit should be the same as a normal max (counting his years in the league), and if he is traded to other team the cap hit comes back to normal, for example (not the real numbers, i ain't going to check it) Embiid gets a super max and is worth 60 million but as long as he is a 76er his contract would count as 40/45 million to the cap, so in that way teams that drafted well would not be punished for doing it that way, this rule will probably need some extra work like, Luka was drafted by the Hawks but traded to the Mavs, the rule probably would be something like this "the team that the player signed his rookie deal..."

Not the biggest Tatum fan but I don’t see at all how jb is the better player I find it to be a goofy argument. Tatum is always the defenses focal point and also sees the teams best defender every night. Not to mention He’s easily a better playmaker than jb.
