I always LOVED the vibe I got from the original Predator movies (well, the "mysterious" ending of Predator 2, mainly) that the Predator doing the hunting is kind of a young one sent on a challenge hunt to prove itself. That they have a code of honor of some sort, to only hunt worthy prey, only those who are armed - and that at the end they honored Danny Glover's character with a "reward" and the elder and more powerful members of the "Yautja" carried their un-initiated and "failed" predator away and let the winner go. Oh and how the flintlock pistol given by the elder Predator says a 1715, it paints a picture that it's from it's hunt near 300 years ago. It made the Predator character INCREDIBLY fascinating to me and I have been dying to see something like that in the films. So this being set to 1700 and having a Predator that is not geared up seems to be bringing it right back to this being that kind of a proving rite. I feared that this will be terrible "as usual", but having heard this review actually made me very excited to see it. Thank you.

I felt compelled to come back here after watching "Prey" for the first time tonight. I watched Cody's review of it before seeing the movie...... This film kicked major ass! I know I'm going to catch serious flack for what I'm about to type, but I don't care. "Prey" rivals the awesomeness of the original "Predator", with Arny, in all aspects. Aside from some not-so-great CGI, "Prey" is easily on the same level as any modern BIG budget movie, if not on a higher level, in my humble opinion. It was non-stop action from the jump, to the last second. Instant classic for me. Ok. I'm done. 😄

Prey could easily be 2022 movie of the year, it was intriguing from start to end. Yes I'm aware The Batman as well. Prey would be a template on how to make a movie of a franchise with new ideas without shitting on the establish lore or character (ahemm dark fate and last jedi). Edit: Prey was intense, great suspend, great action, excellent cinematography, great sounds effect, great OST and most importantly treats the Predator like a humongous behemoth to go up against.

This woman is a warrior of a Comanche tribe and has trained to hunt, she was always pushed to the side until this moment. Bottom line....NEVER UNDERESTIMATE someone's looks or size as a Warrior.☯️☯️

I went into it with low expectations but man I really did enjoy it. Only complaint was the CGI was a little janky at times but not so much that it detracted from the experience. Best Predator movie since Predator 2 IMO

I am looking forward to this. It's good to see a movie that is up there with the original film. Cody, will you be commenting on the second Chucky season? I am looking forward to your opinions on it.

I'm actually excited to watch this film, hearing the reviews that the film feels like thr franchise is getting back in track, makes me curious. The only predator movies I loved is Predator 1 and 2, Prey feels like its understanding on what makes a Predator a Predator.
@Ostro19802 жыл бұрын
The only real nod that Prey gave to original was the "If it bleeds, we can kill it" line. It makes obvious sense for the character to say so it doesn't feel forced.

The sioux Indians are more famous then the comanche Indians. More Victories against the us military and more resistance to the little bighorn battle June 25,1876 as far reaching the wounded knee massacre dec 29, 1890.

I'm really excited to watch this. I'm not surprised it's good, this is the same guy that did 10 Cloverfield Lane and the pilot of The Boys

The only character in this movie with plot armor was ***SPOILERS*** The dog because he should have been dead about 5 times, given the dangerous animals, the predator and the Frenchmen, but I'm ok when animals have plot armor. 😉

I enjoyed it! It was better than what I expected. The Dog is the Real MVP

Yet again, I strongly disagree with you, Cody. This movie had an interesting premise, but it wasn’t handled well at all. But I seem to be in the minority, so I’m glad that it worked for the majority of you. Unfortunately, it just did not work for me.

:) I knew this would be good. Yes!!!! I loved 10 Cloverfield Lane, and I was so excited Dan Tractenberg is following up that film with a predator film! Can't wait for Friday.

Holding out hope for my Predator vs Knights of the Roundtable movie now LOL or Predator in the old West vs Gunslingers. I agree on Terminator that's what they should have done after T2 go back to the Horror of the original and not try to go bigger than T2 that was their mistake even though I really liked Dark Fate.
@boomstickcritique9022 жыл бұрын
@@kevinmiller7812 Well Kyle died so John could stop judgment day they stopped it in T2 to me John was never the focus of the series it was Lindas Sarah's character John was more just the backdrop for the story focus of the first 2. So I never minded him dying in Dark Fate because it was a great setup for Sarah's character and I liked that Arnold was the one who killed him after saving him in T2. They're going to end up rebooting Terminator and doing a back to basics R-rated Horror movie version with probably the Rock.
@kevinmiller78122 жыл бұрын
I thought dark fate was cool what I didn't like about that movie was the beginning after Terminator 2 when John Connor got killed and everything that messed up that's what made the movie bad for me and that mint Kyle Reese died for nothing so what I'm hoping for is another legacy sequel where they skip everything after Terminator 2 and go back to basic and make it a sci-fi horror film like the first movie with no comedy just pure action keep John Connor alive and have him become the leader of the resistance like he's supposed to Plus the movies started off with prison day plus it's a few years before 2029 everything still normal the bombs didn't fall yet skynet hasn't taken over yet and the Terminator's hasn't taken control and started the war yet maybe Sarah still around and you already know Kyle Reese is around there somewhere so he shows up either towards the end of the movie or somewhere in between and you already know what happens next that starts off that trilogy right there all the way to when Kyle goes back in time to terminator 1 with The Terminator trying to kill Sarah it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure all that out also the 40th anniversary of the first movie is coming up so what better way to do that then a 40th anniversary movie and the legacy sequel just like Halloween did think about it

Cody your observations and tastes are near identical to mine and therefore it's rare I disagree. However the mixed element of use of English and modern day English was a turn off for me from the first line or so in the movie. Unfortunately as this franchise is so big, the 'sell' would have neen near impossible to an English speaking audience if they went with subtitles, which is understandable. However if this movie was in a Camanche language then this would definitely be the best sequel to me since the original but currently sits near bottom just because of how irritated I got from the start and could not see past that unfortunately. Definitely agree with alk of your positives 👍

Was impressed by this one, I liked it much more than what I expected. That version of the predator is a fucking killing machine and the way she kills it at the end is kick ass.

Regarding the CGI animals, is it possible that they present these animals as clearly not real so that they can cut off PETA before they try to get started?

I still to this day don’t understand why they didn’t just get Arnold to play in predators. Adrien Brody is a great actor but he’s not an action star. Hell I would have been happy with van damme or someone like that.

I noticed this movie had one really bad CGI effect. During the one take figjt scene at the campsite, Naru throws her axe into a dude's stomach and it visibly clips as he flies backwards It was so stunningly bad, I wonder if the effects post production was rushed
@jg50042 жыл бұрын
The predator has scaled back hunting tech but can still travel the galaxy in super advanced ships.
@AlcoVoz8 ай бұрын
I didn't think twice about Naru hunting in the beginning. 'They're all hunting to get food, got it' is all i thought. It didn't need to be said the whole "I'm a woman you think I can't" thing. I feel like we're already getting past those kinds of limiting beliefs but film makers keep relying on it cause it's an easy story to tell. I wish they would've at least told that aspect of the story in a more nuanced and less blatant way.
@rxtsec12 жыл бұрын
All I know is the predator beat the crap out of Arnold so anyone else should not be able to match him physically. That's why I hates predators. Adrian Brody is a dweeb and there was no way he could physically beat the predator up. If that's what's going on in this movie than I won't like it.

Thanks again for this review Cody. Didnt know that Prey was connected to the Predator franchise til 2 days ago. Your analysis was spot on! Loved the overall tone of the movie and liked how it takes place 4 centuries prior. More gritty ground out wilderness movie than '87 modern tech version version. Also with u in that Comanche warriors speaking english in the *modern way* as an 18th century native took me out a bit. I told my girlfriend they shoulda had dubs or subtitles in this. For example Ta ab tells Naru, *I GOT THIS??!* Nah bruh, no way Comanche warrior spoke that way in the 1700s. I woulda loved for it to be a little more like that Leonardo DiCaprio wilderness revenge movie with more survival stuff in the Wilderness. But overall i give it a 4.5 outta 5!

Biggest flaw of the film is that they show the predator too early. I want my slow pace suspense like the original predator. Like someone is stalking them, where you're not sure if he's there or not. Nope, here it just lands on a ship, gutted a snake, hunt some wolves like Jesus Christ... Is the director afraid that the audience will fall asleep if there are no predator scenes every 15 minutes? I could cut those predator scenes so that when the big reveal happen which is at the bear in the waterfall, would have been a more effective reveal of THE PREDATOR.
@aaronglover54482 жыл бұрын
Why did they cut away from some of the kill scenes? I enjoyed it but thought we should have seen a bit more of the gore if that makes sense. Great review
