It's a small thing, but I like that the brother believed her instantly. His issue with her going out wasn't that he thought she was crazy, but right or wrong, he didn't think she could handle it. He never dismissed what she thought she saw and only said that IF there was something, he would go find it.

as a first nations indigenous female, the representation in this film is so important to me. the fact that the film centres on a female, rather than a male, when almost all indigenous tribes and cultures are matriarchal is phenomenal. my mom was born in 1958, she hates horror movies, and she LOVED prey. it’s the most culturally accurate portrayal of indigenous ways in any other movie or television show she’s seen in her lifetime, AND the cast members are actual indigenous actors and actresses and not just racially ambiguous. representation matters!

How are most tribes matriarchal? Men hunted women took care of children and took care of the home, the only possibility of any kind of matriarch would be spiritual. Movie would probably have been better with a guy as the main protagonists
@triloization

@@manniefresh3425 it does not matter who goes hunting and who takes care in a social system. When the women lead due to the wisdom that the society thinks they inherent and give them therefore the power to rule, it is matriarchal or mater linear. To rule you do not have to be the greatest hunter or the best warrior. The most rulers within the last 1000 years, where neither good hunters or mighty warriors. We live in a social construct tgat said that the men should rule because of their strength, but that was not always the case. People in the stone age w did not know or care about this. @@triloization yeah the I don’t think you understand what a patriarchy and matriarchy are, it breaks down to the single unit, which generally is the family and yes it is set in stone cause when you look chronologically and geographically, even to isolated societies found in the Amazon, they all act the same way, men hunt and lead, women take care of kids and home. Though there are some forms of higher raking females, the Chiefs or head of the village is 99.9% going to be a guy, that is a universal human trait as common as the recognition of a smile or a frown

@@manniefresh3425 Comanche tribes were more patriarchal due to their hunting lifestyle but most tribes(more natural way of living and not a huge society) troughout history respected women analytical skill like their brains as so quick witted for science and phycologie I'm constantly impressed in how fast they fucking think. Woman analyse things so much faster than man but mens reflexes are superior. Intelligence is the same just their hamster is a bit faster for better or worse Just like mens aggression. The movies showed the bad side of men's and the good side trough her brother being as smart as her and the better warrior being able to fucking 1v1 a predator in a fair figth causing the predator to play dirty to win. She won due to her quick wits and playing dirty by trapping him and getting the upper hand by planning in advance with usefull strategies against the predator tactics. Something I really appreciated in this movie was the relationship between the siblings, simply the older brother Taabe wasn't a d*c . He openly acknowledged and respected her intelligence and skills,wanted to share credit with her, reasonbly defended her against the other males, and while protective, was not overbearing or too controlling. And when the scene came showed he was a damn good fighter , showcasing why everyone respected him. I genuinely felt the sadness that he wasnt there to witness Naru officially be acknowledged as a hunter and warrior. It was so sad.

Not really. First 2 movies were grimey and both had their unique environments that were well built. Predator 2 went even much further creating this heat wave ridden coked up gangwar where predator enters as observer first. This was super clean, boring and completely linear. It really had no personality. It set all the things so linearly, like the woman falling into the swamp and then using it to trap the predator. First showing people the plant that lowered your body temperature, then using it to beat the predator. Like this type of really boring and lazy writing.

@@Nobody-Nowhere (hmmmm🤔) It's so easy to nitpick every aspect of a "good movie"..... Nitpicking, even for the sake of comparison, doesn't make one movie objectionably better than another. 1. The was first Predator was way too slow. 2. No back-story for the antagonist. 3. Arguably one of the best kills of the movie happened off camera( Billy) 4. It took literally 15secs for the main character to realize that the mud bath worked. 5. One thin layer of mud is not enough to mask a person's body heat from thermal imagining. 6. The bow string that he uses isn't even tight enough to fire an arrow and you can see that on screen. 5. The Protagonist literally out runs what looks like the explosion of a tactical nuke. The most cliche and fake part of the movie. 6. Most of the dialog was cliche and overly "macho" and it was all formulaic. 7. Every character single character was useless when it came down actually help defeat the antagonist. All fodder. 8. The one-man-trope was being done by almost every action movie in that decade. (Un-original) 9. Second fakest thing in the movie is how many body builders are in this unit. (The actors even lifted weights off camera to "look bigger" when it was time to shoot scenes) 10. Formulaic pre fight montage was telegraphed...as they sync up there levels of readiness....predictably. I could literally just go on and on about the Predator and all it's flaws but that doesn't make it an objectionably bad movie. Same with PREY and every other movie.

@@jasoncarter1869 I've watched both recently, so might aswell nitpick your nitpicks for fun. 1. The movie or the creature itself? 2. It's unnecessary. Besides, the less we know about the Pred the better. (In Prey, I feel that there was no need to actually SHOW the cloaked predator as it took out a lot of the mystery) 3. That was intentional, subverting expectations and all that. 4. Dutch is a smart guy, tho it was cheesy for him to state it to the audience. 5. Still more believable than instantly-working, magic herbs. 6. Don't see how that's a nitpick 7. Homage to the action genre, I guess. A bit of silly fun. 8. The movie's goal was to dissect the tropes of the genre, after all. 9. Showcases how the most macho, buff, intelligent badass soldiers are up against something far out of their league. Reinforces what an absolute UNIT the Predator is. 10. Product of the genre and plot, I guess. 11. Reinforces the theme of helpless machos. (Not all of them were bodybuilders) 12. It was a good scene to show the similarities between the two characters. None of these I would consider faults, as opposed to the magic herbs, a plot-convenient dog, and an unintimidating antagonist of Prey.

Imagine a movie about an old/middle aged former Yakuza taking arms after the small town that he lives in starts being terrorized by a monster that skins its victims and takes their skulls, much like he used to when he led his own gang. Him seeing the horror of it and remembering his criminal life. Thinking that this is heavens that sent a monster to punish him for his sins. With the culmination of the movie being a swords duel between an old killer and an initiate predator, where neither is a victor. A good sci-fi is not about the fantastic things. It is about human beings. About how different human beings would act in an unprecedented situations. And predator movies have a lot of untapped dramatic potential.

Like scaring themselves with Alien blood was them copying the Naru and the Comanche custom of covering yourself with the blood of your kill. How the Predator comes back and basically kill Naru them to get the gun. On how the Predator was basically learning from scratch how to deal with animals by letting them hurt him. The only reason people are hating is because they love to say “Hollywood can’t make good female leads anymore”. If T2 and Alien were to release today people would meet them with the same hate they’re meeting this movie with.

I think the biggest detriment to the actual Predator's as horror creatures is that we know so much about them. What makes a monster scary is that we know nothing about them, motive why they're doing this etc. The predator has so much lore that is accessible that it's impossible for them to be scary because we know how they operate.

Here is something I didn't notice until the second viewing... remember when the Predator got his claw stuck in a trunk of a tree near the end of the movie. He cut his arm off. Remember the story the brother and sister talk about while tied to the tree as bait.... Predator isn't smarter than a beaver.!!!....

Prey was easily the best sequel/movie with the predator since the original. Yes, a lot of the acting was subpar, and the very last moment of the fight was a little ridiculous, but that doesn't outweigh the 98% of the movie that had great tension, cinematography, choreography, and dog. Genuinely feel that anybody that hates the movie saw that it was a female lead and automatically decided they weren't going to like it.

@@dieseluk2k That might have actually hurt some of the Predator movies though. Some people are more entertained by the mystery of it all. The mystery helped to ratchet up the tension and suspense. Predator was a smooth blend of action and horror and it wasn't bogged down with information dumps. I do like the expansion of the lore but not when it conflicts with the tone of the source material. I think the "world building" took a back seat to everything else, in some ways. (In the sequels) This movie was just more consistent in keeping with the direction of the first one. No?
@whatsthatmovie1637
@whatsthatmovie1637 2 жыл бұрын
@@jasoncarter1869 eh, to each is own. I found Prey as an okay prequel it didn’t blow me out of the water because it didn’t do nothing new or fresh so it all depends on what you as a viewer want. If you want a movie that’s similar to the original instead of just watching the original than watch Prey if you want films that build on to the lore and expand the creatures than watch the sequels 🤷🏽‍♂️

End scene is ridiculous. Anybody know the targeting system of a fighter jet ( the ground laser and the missile ). Can you imagine a soldier on the ground points the laser on the jet and the jet pilot is too stupid too recognize the fact that he's targeting himself. And even worse.... he fires the missile in to himself and does suicide. The most dumbest predator in in the history!

I've seen it 3 times. Each time seeing things I either hadn't before or catching masterful practical effects at in practice only visible upon a second or third viewing. The wolf decapitation and head removal is a perfect example, the fur blends from the head to the neck so well that you have to really look to see the line between them and when the head is pulled up and the spine comes with it, it's just so realistic an angle that upon first glance it's easily missed.

I'm going to here on out try to convince as many people as I can that the term "going Dutch" on a date came from this film franchise 😂 P.S. You missed the fact that Predator 2 was set slightly in the future, and it was trying to make some political statements within the backdrop of the film. Now that I say that, I have to mention that the OG Predator also had a political background concerning the US's history with Contras throughout the 80's & 90's. P.P.S. Prey easily vies for the top spot in the franchise. It was actual storytelling, actual film-making, and a great production. I can excuse the bits of bad CG, because I was sold on the characters & story. Remember that?

Easily the best Predator movie since the OG Schwarzenegger film and (spicy hot take) for me, the best of the entire franchise. I really, really, REALLY hope that Hulu releases this movie (with the bonus Comanche dub) for purchase on home video because I would love to add this to my movie collection. But, given the current state of streaming films, it's far more likely that it will NEVER see a Blu-ray or 4K release. And that breaks my heart as a cinephile who believes wholeheartedly in the preservation of physical media. I would say that if it had rightfully gotten a full theater roll-out, maybe it would have been slated for physical release, but given that the Dave Bautista Army of the Dead has yet to see the light of day, even that doesn't mean anything in 2022.
