Nigel as an old retired tool and die guy I can appreciate the quality and with that comes cost in every product but as a hobbyist it will never happen . But your videos as I said some time back have been a life savor, my stitching quality is now as good as I can get it. Understanding why and where problems happen was a life savor thanks again and finding a god supplier of tiger thread was the best thing I have ever done what a product the Ritza Tiger is, makes the old Tandy Sinew look like ROPE and I have yet to have a piercing of the Tiger thread in the pass threw in the saddle stitching thanks again my LORD OF STITCHING .

It seemed you weren't casting while you stitched .. If so, why not?

I'm not sure whether you were stitching like this purely for the video or this is how you normally stitch? but you should be piercing the leather with your left handed awl followed by the needle on the right. As you are pulling out the awl the right should use the tip of the awl as a guide, then this is followed by the left needle. And the loop of thread is not being looped over as you pull through, it's going the wrong way underneath. It just looks a little cack handed the way you are stitching.

For stitching reverse seams like pipped or turned seams Kianu a slanted hole will work against you. The stitching is put under a lot of pressure when turned back the right way and the angled hole a standard pricking iron will give you can be expose at the seam. A round hole will lessen this and will actually be a bit stronger when stitching like this.

What I am trying to do is to show everyone every option available so they are better informed and can make the right decision to suit them. I would be remiss in leaving irons out just because I think they are too expensive or too cheep.
