This video will hopefully assist you in choosing the right tool to suit you. and your style of stitching.
Due to its size and to make it easier to find the iron you want to see, it has been broken down into a number of parts.
In addition to this, you can download the specification sheet from. www.armitageleather.com/shop

I just recently started leather work, after trying cheaper tools I bought a set of these Sinabroks irons in 4.5MM spacing or 6 SPI and they have helped me a ton. My stitches are much better and these irons work very well. Thank you Nigel for reviewing them and helping me learn more about this craft.

I am so glad to hear the irons are working out for you. You certainly have a tool that will last you a lifetime. Jins tools are excellent. Having the right tool for the job does make all the difference. Nigel

You are clearly a master craftsman with Leather. Question regarding the 2.2 mm thickness of the tooth- If you were using the 3.38 size would you advise it to be better to purchase the more narrow 1.8 mm thickness that is now offered by Sinabrok? I am curious if, in your opinion, the ratio would create the dilemma of having a larger hole with a tighter stitch almost forcing a larger thread that may encumber the spacing?

Good morning Peter, Thank you for your message and kind words. An excellent question and well put. In short, yes! If you are using more stitches per inch, you want the holes to be proportionally smaller. In the past going back to the heyday of Dixons and Blanchard, irons came in two sizes, standard and fine, and that was your lot. Even then, there was variation as all irons were hand ground. Today, that seems to have carried on with some makers. Certainly KS Blade to mention but one. Their irons 7spi and above, 6, 5 etc in size have a tooth size of 1.8mm. The irons 8spi and below, 9, 10 etc have a tooth size of 1.6mm. This is a good combination. Sinabroks tooth size of 2.2mm always felt a little large for me, but fitted well into the American market where a larger thread is often used. As I understand it today, Jin, who incidentally worked at KS Blade in the early days, now follows the same 1.8mm large and 1.6mm fine sizing. So yes, you are quite right, a finer stitch calls for a smaller hole. This is always wholly dependent on the users style of stitching though, along with the item being made. All things are not equal, but it is a good general guide. Hope that helps Warm regards Nigel

I just looked (October 2019) and Twist is available on Amazon. Other places also. They may have just shut down their website and distribute through others. I bought a few colors through Amazon. The thread is easy to find.

Hello, please help me with some infomations regarding the spare tooths: -All the teeths have the same dimensions and if they are, what are according to the stitching step? -What is the dimension of the part of the teeth that pierce the leather and the overall dimension of the whole teeth? -The price of the tooth vary according to its dimension? -Can I buy a tooth for each dimension? What is the price? Thank you very much, and please excuse my english.

i always thought the dulling of tiger thread was the dye from the leather coming off i never seem to get dulling on natural but maybe its me anyways cheers nigel for your share :)

I can't stand tiger thread's dulling! On the spool they are so vibrant, in a stitch line, they are dull and faded. So disappointing. I don't know if Nigel did something with the lighting, with the up close shot, the Twist was WAY brighter than the Ritza, but after hammering in the wide shot from above, all three looked exactly the same. Wish I knew what the deal is. I will be ordering some Twist though. I'm having a bear of a time finding Yellow Tiger Thread in the 0.6mm size here in the states. I'll just pick up TWIST!

Of course you can use metal on metal safely. Metal workers do it constantly. It will wear your tools down though. Hard metal on softer metal will effect the softer metal. But hammers on nails and chisels and rivets and woodworkers punches and metal markers and punches and counter sinking punches etc etc is absolutely normal. You can use metal hammers on leather working tools absolutely safely. And to be honest, it takes years of use to wear down your tools using metal hammers. But they don't look pretty for thier life span.

I have heard a good argument against the KS..not about the quality it the service. Please correct me if a change has been made..when blade is compromised you must return the tool for repair. Sinabroc will sell you a replacement at time of purchase .

There is nothing wrong with brass as a material, in engineering and machining, brass is used to make hammers to strike other materials so as not to damage or mark them, it's sacrificial. It appears, in this application, to be a gimmick and little more. Living by the sea and rust, I live on the Norfolk coast and have a garage full of steel tools with no heating, rust is not an issue.

They could be great but I just don't see any reason to support them .To me there just a knock of the K.S. and my K.S. I have retired my other Irons I'm happy . but I do understand what your saying and doing great to see you again you've been a real stranger to you tube miss you . Happy trails

"its for corrosion resistance" ... aka we can machine them twice as fast and for 1/2 the price while still charging the end consumer roughly the same price as KS does, or more depending on geographic.. Originally i was going to go for Sinabrok, until dug deeper to see it was a KS employee that left to become a competitor. That rubbed me the wrong way, especially when using brass and costing nearly the same, when I know the materials and labor get drastically reduced vs stainless, and transferring none of those savings to the customer. (material cost being cheaper when compare that steel has nearly 0 recycled return income, while brass normally does in most countries ive looked at)
@lvxleather
@lvxleather 4 жыл бұрын
Right!? I thought the exact same thing. Not to mention Jin can't seem to meet his obligations and deliveries when he promises. Overall, they look cool, but a tool steel or stainless is a much more durable and a better value for the money.
