This video will hopefully assist you in choosing the right tool to suit you.and your style of stitching.
Due to it's size and to make it easier to find the iron you want to see, it has been broken down into a number of parts.
In addition to this, you can download the specification sheet from. www.armitageleather.com/shop

Looking at these "bargin" tools they are probably made in China, it would be very easy to temper them down a little by heating the tines to dark straw ,then plunging them, then they would be much more durable, a very good price for someone to see if they liked the art of leatherwork. Your idea of using an end grain block of wood is really good, you will find the end grain closes up leaving the work surface almost like new every time you cut into it, it is also a very steady platform to punch into..

Hi, it looks like my chinese chisel which i bought (set of 4) for about 10$. I am using these for 6 months now and they works well without any issue. So my opinion is if you are starting with leather it worth!

useable but the ones i got for about that price were really roughly finished and really hard to get out of the leather! however, after all of the craftsha chisels I got in japan, i wanted to try that traditional marking iron for the looks... weird angle on them though... thank you very much Nigel as always!

+Woodsmans Finest actually, the ones i got have the same teeth as the traditional osbourne iron... no diamond chisels... got me one of that style though as a replacement for a broken craftsha and it kinda deffers in thickness and size... isn´t visible in the stitching though

Nige, I don't know the exact name of the company for sure but I believe the logo is "SZ," which methinks stands for "Shenzen." Shenzen is an industrial region near Hong Kong and is the home of some of China's major metal and cutlery manufacturers. I bought a "Steel Leather Cutter" on ebay with the same logo as the "Proline" chisels you review here. It's a substantial chunk of steel and sharpens to a fine edge. I also have a Chinese cleaver made in Shenzen, though not with the same logo. Also a nice blade. I have no problem buying steel products from Shenzen. They know how to make blades there. Of course, Caveat Emptor and expect to do some sharpening/polishing, but the Shenzen made steel products I own serve me well, especially for the price. Go Well, Michelle

Hi Nigel! Watching this second of the review series, my only question, pertaining to the hole size of the Tandy iron vs. This iron, I would like to have seen you Back Stitch at the end, as one normally would, to see if the smaller hole size made that significantly harder to do. I DO like the fact that after tapping down, there is NO visible hole with this one, vs a bit of a ragged look with the hole of the Tandy model. I'd prefer to use a finer thread on some projects, depending on the piece/look wanted. With Tandy, you'd be stuck with a larger thread than perhaps you wanted just to fill the holes properly. I'm thankful for these reviews, I was about to purchase the Tandy irons, and/or a similar on Amazon with the same kind of tooth width. I wuoldn't have been happy.

Hi, thank you for the review. On one hand, you said 'I have given them a lot of grief' to break but at the same time you said I have used then for few minutes. please explain in order to help to make our minds up.

I have a set of 3mm which I assume are Chinese as they were the same price as yours but the same style as the Seiwa (Knurled round handle). They are not as well finished though. Some burs that needed a touch or wet and dry and a polish. They work o.k.. You get what you pay for. Following your tip to wax your awl, I wax the irons to aid removal.

Nigel, ordered a set of these and they came in a red and black cardboard presentation box. The name on the top of the box reads ' XINCIGONGFANG' . Exact same trade mark and chisels. Also says 'Bayonet' on the front flap to said box. Don't know if that helps tracking down the manufacturer?

Hello Nigel, Actually I am a foreigner who lives in China for more than 8 years, I am totally aware of this product, Actually its not only one brand or one manufacture make this, in Chinese online shopping you can find too many stores which has this and they put their logo on it.( so dont think only this brand make this in China!) and its very very very cheaper than they put in ebay. apart from pricking irons, there are too many different accessories for leathercraft which you can buy them very cheaper than international market." ITS CHINA" so let me know if you need some help in exploring Chinese market and maybe I can help.

These pricking irons are terrible. They break and eBay seller never responded about issue. My recommendation is "Do Not" buy them.
