@@6666Imperator it's true that is known for fighting for creative control. Thats why they didnt continue with him as the hulk, though he was the best one, and why the director of american history x hates that movie. But i'd argue that bc edward norton fought for changes, those movies were better than they were going to be otherwise.

Richard Gere has always been sorely under appreciated. So many great films and performances by him. An Officer & A Gentleman, Arbitrage, American Gigolo, Red Corner, Internal Affairs, Power, Pretty Woman, Unfaithful.......and I could keep going. He was one of the bigger box office attractions for significant portions of his career, but he never got his due as an actor. He's actually very talented.

But if only Roy existed, why would that confident, aggressive , strong, combative character be a willing submissive in an exploitative sex video? Why would Roy allow himself to be abused regularly by a priest? For me, this plot hole makes no sense.

Plus…The running theme is that every major characters wears two faces…ArchBishop Rushman, Shaughnessy, Martin Vale himself and Aaron/Roy. This was probably one of the few films I’ve seen where the acting looked so seamless that it seemed more like a documentary or a found footage movie. This was some extraordinary acting! I saw this is theaters in ‘96 and I wasn’t expecting much. I was blown away.
@hayleyferguson3346

But Roy wasn't "wearing two faces" until he invented Aaron after the murder. Which makes no sense, because Roy (a confident, aggressive, intelligent, combative guy) wouldn't be a submissive scared participant in an exploitative sex tape. He wouldn't allow a priest to regularly abuse him. There'd be no reason to "snap" and kill. Because Aaron didn't exist.

(He was painfully shy back then, as I found out when I took his money at a bookstore where I worked. He could barely look me in the eye - no thanks to his girlfriend of the time, I'm sure. (He was with Courtney Love back then, who was exactly the sort of person you've assumed she is.)

Another time he was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC was when he played King Baldwin in the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" with Orlando Bloom. I cry ever time I see his performance. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Btw, King Baldwin was a REAL King who had Leprosy. "Red Dragon" with Sir Anthony Hopkins and Ralph Fiennes is another great ensemble cast movie Norton was in. Thanks for choosing this one... haven't seen this one since I was in high school. 🤎🙏🏽

Absolutely. The movie has Edward Norton, Barry Pepper, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Brian Cox, Rosario Dawson and Anna Paquin. It is directed by Spike Lee. It has a haunting score from Terence Blanchard. It is one of the first films to deal with September 11 aftermath. It has one of the greatest cinematic rants ever. And Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars and considered it one of the best of the 2000s. And yet no one heard of it, and I dont recall a first time watcher giving it a try.

There's an interesting camera shot at 30:16, where from the camera angle it appears that the Richard Gere character is behind the prison cell bars, and the Edward Norton character is framed by the open doorway. It's perhaps a bit of foreshadowing, or it shows the inevitable results of the story. The Norton character is going to escape the consequences of his crimes, while the Gere character will be trapped living with the consequences of his own hubris and actions.

Edward Norton started his career like a veteran actor, and so a lot of people just assumed he’d been around and they hadn’t heard of him. He was/is that good. This is why we recommended it. Edward Norton was phenomenal in this, and yes, it was his first major role. It was my first time seeing him. Then he did History X, so was hardcore when he first started acting

I loved this reaction! My Dad used to watch this film whenever he caught it on TV. He was such an Ed Norton fan because of this film and would talk about it whenever he saw him in something. Some of our best conversations were about movies. Thanks for bringing back some great memories. I really think he would've enjoyed watching you guys react to the twists. 👍

He definitely should have won the Oscar over Cuba Gooding in Jerry McGuire

Saw this movie for the first time yesterday and now I’m on KZbin looking for reactions, just so I can see y’all’s faces with both twists. A fenomenal movie, and an even more fenomenal actor! 👏🏻

The ending of this movie is so stupid. You mean all a person has to do to get out of a murder charge is act crazy on the stand and attack the prosecutor?! Holy shit, Scott Peterson and Alex Murdaugh should have tried that!

Norton should have won the Oscar that year instead of Cuba.

Not only this was Edward Norton’s first movie, but he also got an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. He lost out to Cuba gooding jr for Jerry Maguire. He did however, won a golden globe for it though.

Funny thing is the scene where you said it looks like a place where Batman would beat people up, was filmed right near the same spot where they filmed the truck flip scene in the second Batman. Good catch

I would say the ending with him just standing there in the street was more of him having to come to terms with getting duped and his ego was extremely bruised at that moment. Then of course there's the issue of allowing a guilty guy go free that he has to deal with it on top of it.
