The TV series really does do the OG character justice. No hate on Tom Cruise but he just neither seems that menacing or detective smart in the movie. The movie was simply too short to expand on his character and he's also not built like a brick shit house

95 grains is not a subsonic round. The first way to make a subsonic load is to use a heavier bullet since they travel slower. The most common target load for 9mm bullets is 115 grains, but a heavier bullet of 147 grains will be subsonic. The other way is to reduce the powder load. Decreasing the amount of propellant in the cartridge means the bullet will be moving slower when it exits the barrel.

I'm not sure if I didn't get something right, but why is Reacher suggesting that a 95 grain 9mm bullet has to be subsonic? Subsonic in general does require heavier bullets, for 9mm normally 140 or 150 grain, otherwise it would require way less powder, which could lead to uneven firing in the 9mm. Not sure if they really didn't think about that, but it's actually quite easy to understand if you think about the physics for a second

Anyone with a modicum of firearm knowledge would know that a 95 gr. 9mm projectile would have come from a .380 ACP, or 9X17. Also, anyone who was ever in the military would never say "Picked up his brass". They would have said "Policed his brass." Finding all of your spent casings in the wild, after dark, would have been challenging at best.

That last line “law says we need a warrant” - why is he so worried about laws then, after the sheriff’s deputies making an illegal arrest, and his own illegal jailing of Reacher? To be lawful, an arrest requires probable cause. Probable cause is, literally, that the suspect is more likely than not (aka 51% likely) to have committed the crime. Unless more than half the outsiders who travel into or through Margrave are murderers, just being such a traveler doesn’t create probable cause - especially since he arrived in Margrave after the murder was committed. An arrest is justified or not when it occurs, not afterwards, and at the time those deputies pointed guns at Reacher, they had no probable cause. Making an arrest without probable cause while pointing guns at someone is a federal felony (18 USC 241, 18 USC 242, 18 USC 924), one of the official misconduct variety so cops can’t claim necessity in the line of duty like they can and do for things like assault. Then there’s the unlawful jailing. Even knowing the arrest was unlawful, and therefore knowing that any evidence resulting from that arrest is inadmissible in court, Reacher is not released. Holding someone in a jail - or anywhere else - unlawfully is literally kidnapping. Putting someone in a holding cell is, like an arrest, justified or not when it happens, not later on. When your case amounts to “we’re assuming that the only knkwn stranger in town is the killer while assuming there aren’t any strangers we don’t know about, as well as that none of the people who live here are capable of murder”, you don’t have a case. No case means you cut your suspect loose.

This man is so much more believable as Reacher than Tom Cruise. I could never come to terms with such a short Jack Reacher when in the novels he's portrayed as 6'5" and heavily built, Tom Cruise is 5'7" and slight of build. They hire other actors that are short so it's not so noticeable.

380 ACP (also called 9x17mm) is a 95 grain 0.355 inch diameter bullet. It's the same diameter as 124 grain 9mm Parabellum (aka 9x19mm) bullets. So a TV writer could usually get away with just calling it 9mm.
@ShaggyRogers1
@ShaggyRogers1 Жыл бұрын
@@daveh7720 That doesn't automatically make it subsonic, nor would they know anything about what kind of grain amount was used without casings or unspent rounds on scene. This scene is full of inaccurate but plausible sounding info. The only thing they would know about what kind of grain amount or anything of the sort is by looking at any unburnt powder on the victim to see tale tell signs of close range suppressor patterns or an over saturation, which would indicate some combination of hot ammo and/or short barrel.

You're not wrong. Generally bigger bullets go slower which makes them better for subsonic. Smaller bullets normally go much faster. There would be no reason for a smaller slower bullet unless you want it to be less effective for some reason. No way you would think 95 grain 9mm would be subsonic. The smallest one I know of is 124 grain. Most are 147 with the biggest I know of 165.

I need someone to enlighten me. I own a few pistols and various types of ammunition's that fit those pistols including 9 mm in 95 grain and subsonic rounds. I freely admit this does not make me an expert, but it does allow me to ask some question. 9mm rounds are not automatically subsonic. To avoid cracking the sound barrier, (and yes, that's what makes the BANG)they must be specially made, typically using a specific amount of gun powder, enough to propel the slug. Common 9mm slugs but not all, are 95 grains again that does not make them subsonic. It's easier to make a lighter slug subsonic because it takes less gunpowder to propel the slug. Therefore the statistics listed, while capable of producing subsonic rounds, such rounds are not in common use by murderers. They don't have the "Stopping Power" of a round which has a full load of gun powder and are less likely to be the bullet of choice for someone that is familiar with firearms to use for murder, IMO. So how does Reacher know so certainly that the rounds used were subsonic? The only means of identifying the type of round is visually. It is possible that "Subsonic" is stamped in the casing, but while this would make the identification easy, this is not mentioned. So, how else would Reacher be able to determine the rounds were subsonic simply on visual evidence? What am I missing? Thanks And I agree it's a great show.

Reacher says the 95 grain 9mm rounds were subsonic. I don't know how many gun enthusiasts are watching, but a subsonic 95 grain bullet that's.355" in diameter would have come from a .380 Auto unless it was SERIOUSLY downloaded from full power. Normally, that would be a 1,300 fps bullet in a 9mm. The speed of sound is usually around 1,160 fps. For a 9mm round to be subsonic, its either loaded light or it's got a 147 grain bullet. This is why I dislike Hollywood writing about firearms. They don't know anything, so they make shit up.

Ok but you still really need a lawyer, especially if you didn't do it. If you're charged with a crime that you didn't do then a lawyer is your best friend on the planet. Police like easy quick clearances and they're not all that bothered with the truth. If they like somebody (you) for the crime and they already have you in custody they're not going to keep digging until they find who actually did it and then set you free. They're going to put you in the box and pretend to be your friend but don't be fooled. Nothing you say to the police without a lawyer present can help you one bit. You are not going to convince them that you're innocent; as far as they're concerned they "know" you're guilty and they have a whole bag of tricks to make you say things that will prove what they know. They'll tell you that getting a lawyer makes you look guilty. That's horseshit. Don't ever fall for it, especially when you didn't do what they're accusing you of.

Yes, I'm going to be that guy by saying the lighter the bullet the faster it goes. A typical 9mm bullet is about 115 grain and if you were looking for slower subsonic you would need to go with a 147 grain bullet.

2:20 ugh they usually do so well but a 95gr 9mm round is very super sonic. They should have said 147grain at the least.

There is no 12:00 AM or 12:00 PM. There is only 12 o’clock midnight and 12 o’clock noon. The detective said 12:00 AM.

Yes there is. Clocks read 12:00 am or PM, they don't swap to midnight, then ba k 12:01am. We colloquially call those noon or midnight, but they still 12 am or 12 pm
@pastorpresent1
@pastorpresent1 3 ай бұрын
What does am and pm mean? The 12-hour clock divides the 24-hour day into two periods. am stands for the Latin ante meridiem, translating to "before midday". This is the time before noon. pm stands for post meridiem or "after midday" - the time after noon. Noon is therefore neither 'ante' (am) nor 'post' (pm) meridiem. Midnight is also neither am nor pm. They are just 12 noon and 12 midnight. (This is from the website of royal museums Greenwich, the home of Greenwich mean time. Any argument to the contrary is simply because we use 12 hour clocks and that's the less-than-accurate habit we have adopted.)

Reacher isn’t a tv show. It’s on Netflix. A series. Buddy, you really need to study things up before you post a comment. You need more knowledge and training before you post a comment on KZbin. Give it maybe 3-4 more years and you’ll be ready there chappie. Right now, study up buddy boy.

They make too big of deal out of the "9mm, 95 grain bullets being sub sonic. 95gr is lighter and therefor faster than most heavier rounds and is supersonic in most quality factory loads.

If you make some gun nut talk... at least make it right. 95gr bullets from 9mm does not mean subsonic. It is an exceptionally light bullet for 9mm that would most certainly not be subsonic. Why don't you get an advisor to at make these things correct? Or at least plausible. You could've used a very heavy bullet. There are 147gr bullets in 9mm, that can be subsonic with standard loads. Or a .45 that regularly is subsonic.

Ok, I like this scene and the whole "smartass know it all ice cold killer" type dialogue, but the 'three men' part wasn't written or thought out well. The deranged psycho could as well have put the corpse under the cardboard, himself. One gun-savvy killer, ok. One nutcase to make the corpse unrecognisable, ok. One man to hide the corpse under cardboard? Come on..
