Remco did the better w/kg of the 2, Roglic just has a better punch (or he should at least) and Remco started the sprint too early, 300m is a very long sprint uphill (even on the flat it is on the long end).

@@MDP1702 He was trying to avoid the sprint, isn't it obvious? Because his sprint is worse than Roglic's...therefore he was trying to gap him before the pure sprint like he did successfully on stage 3. I think theres a important information regarding the preparation for the giro and Vuelta of Catalunya. Between Almeida, Roglic , and Renco only Renco has done a Altitude training a week or 2 before this vuelta. Neither Almeida or Roglic has done in he past month so probably Almeida and Roglic have a higher cealing to progress until giro ? Whats your thoughts ? Do you think that can indicate something ? In my opinion Roglic form will progress the most of the 3. Cheers Mate keep the gr8 work !!!!
@MDP1702
@MDP1702 Жыл бұрын
Roglic has done an altitude camp in january/february (at least in february he was reported to be at Tenerife, around the same time as the other JV riders), likely even a longer one than Remco if he followed the same schedule as the remainder of JV somewhat. The same for Almeida, he did already do an altitude camp too I believe, though I can't directly find about him specifically, I just remember something said about Pogacar not having done altitude camp yet unlike most others on his team. Also Remco did something like 2 weeks before this, that is the time it takes to only really start to notice the effects, full effects are something after 4-6 weeks, which is why they planned to do another 2-3 weeks after this. Considering this performance was well above Roglic's normal peak performances, it is hard to believe he'll improve a lot after this. I think he's much closer to his peak than many seem to think. Definitely around his '22 vuelta level (imo possibly even better). Though he'll likely go to altitude camp again after this, so some improvement is possible (even if just to top it off again a bit)

@MDP1702
@MDP1702 Жыл бұрын
@@ady38 I don't think they go too deep, there is still around 5-6 weeks to go after this and it will be a good prep. Most other giro contenders are here too, also going deep. Only G doesn't seem to go deep, though that is likely more from not being in good shape.
@ady38
@ady38 Жыл бұрын
@@MDP1702 you could be right, but the risk in pushing so hard now is that they peak too early..we've seen it many times before. Also there's increasing evidence that less intense riding leading up to a big event improves performance.. Either way it'll be very interesting to see how it unfolds hey..I love the Giro!
@MDP1702
@MDP1702 Жыл бұрын
@@ady38 Maybe, but imo this is more like hard training sessions. I feel like Remco isn't going fully in the red, except in the sprints, which shouldn't have lasting damage. He also took the Teide strava KOM, which also will have required a hard effort. And again, in this case nearly all giro favorites are here doing more or less the same high efforts. I think only Vlasov and Arensman are absent (neither of which I see as top spot contenders). Even if Roglic and Remco get a blowback, at worst they'll likely be on the same level as the others imo.

Cycling in general has become so much more exciting the last 3-5 years. Couple of reasons: Ineos/Sky (the richest team by far) now has less than twice the budget of other teams. Other teams are no longer completely outgunned. Individual riders, such as van Aert and var der Poel, have stirred the pot, showing that high risk moves can pay off. This has inspired more riders. Teams are getting more creative with tactics, looking for every opportunity to gain an advantage. No more waiting for the big teams to make a move. We have several GC superstars battling for glory, and they come with different qualities, so they need to gain time on "their" stages.

First we critize Remco for pacing Primoz the whole way, then he does not and we critize Remco for stoping the pace. The guy can't do anything good. Remco is still learning what he is capable of and what racing is all about. We tend to forget he is still a 'broekie' as we Dutch call it. And of course Primoz rides this way, it is the best way that suits him. I found it really interesting that Remco first said that Primoz made him start the sprint too early and then he says he is learning a lot from riding against him, that he is/was a big fan of Primoz and that Primoz is the best grand tour rider of the last couple of years, which I find an interesting statement, which I do agree, although the last two year three other guys are fastly getting there also. It is a huge advantage for Jonas to have Primoz on the team.

Evenepoel is overcheered by his fans and overcriticized by a lot of people... It becomes very toxic to speak about him, which is sad because there's a lot to talk about. I'm fully agree with you, he's still young so it's normal that he made mistakes. I don't see any problem for him to pace on the climbs. Last year on Vuelta he has made explode his opponents like this, and on La Molina it was a little bit the same. Huge pace by his team and huge pace from himself on perfect gradient for him. Today I think he made two mistakes. The sprint of course but for me, that's an understable mistake... so close to the line, is easy to lost your lucidity... and I think that Roglic was the best today. Meanwhile, his biggest mistake for me is when Almeida attack, he better have let Roglic do his job. Put the pressure on him "you're the leader, if I am 2 or 3 no matter, go on him" but he follows cause he wants the stage. For me, it would be more clever to let Roglic do the job. I don't think that have change a lot the result but for the future he must understand a little bit better this moments in my opinion. Like Pogacar, he's so strong that maybe he lacks a little bit of tactics sometimes, mindgame... but at 23 is logic too. The last two stages will be great... I think that even today's one... there are some opportunities. And Roglic's team is not there for the moment.
@SomeBadStuff999
@SomeBadStuff999 Жыл бұрын
You answer your own question, he get critics for one reason or another, because he is still young and needs to learn the timmings. Sometimes the race ask you to pace, others ask you to not pace, plus the viewer also have a different opinion depending on the outcome, as i'm sure the riders after seeing the results think they could've done things different. And remco ,imo, had a "bad" spotlight to soon called lefevere, he didnt protect him enough to than unleash him... and a lot of critics are still from that times, because he may be young, but he is not a prospect rider anymore, he already his one of the best in the world. Primoz have another maturity, he already won a lot but also lost a lot "that was his already ", and even the team he is, already lost a lot by small mistakes or because the wanting to keep pushing all the time, so we saw primoz being "smart" against the "naive" remco. I agree that vingegaard has a huge advantage in having primoz on the team, but i think that both are where they are because of the team. Jumbo is the The Team right now (sky/ineos and jumbo last 10 years can really set roles to the riders and they give it all on that roles).

He's already at their level, all he's missing is the uphill kick which Roglic and Pogacar are famous for. As things stand, Remco might have a better punch than almost all other top GC riders, which is crazy considering he had no real kick to speak of 2 years ago.

Maybe not Pogacar, Roglic and Vingegaard. But he's already won the Vuelta and has already shown he can stand his own on the long climbs. And nowhere near the level of ALL the good gc riders? What? To say he's nowhere near their level , is ridiculous
@MDP1702
@MDP1702 Жыл бұрын
@@VoLcKEA1 The climbing level he's shown suggests he might be able to compete against the ones you mentioned too. I think the main thing Pogacar and Roglic are really still better at is their kick, as get shown here. Take away Roglic's kick and Remco might have won every stage here so far except for yesterdays sprintstage. In terms of climbing, TT, ... he should be competitive against them. The only real thing people think might be a weakness is a hard 3rd week, but that is mostly due to a lack of proof for a strong 3rd week, then proof against it. Most things suggest it shouldn't be a problem imo.

Almeida’s performance needs wider praise. Vallter stage, this stage. Imagine if he started both climbs on Roglic’s wheel and didn’t have to close the gaps he did. 10’ would a minimum.

Roglic used the R5 today, just like last time when beat Evenepoel, when ho lost he used the S5. He usually use the R5 maybe he is more in harmony with that bike.

He uses different bikes depending on terrain. Remco is faster on flatter stages, where you'll see Roglic on the S5. That doesn't say anything bad about the S5, just Remco is faster on that terrain (by a little bit)

Dear laterne Rouge, Remco was still building up his condition ! Do you remember who won the vuelta ? I think it was not Roglic it was Remco. As I see it, this title is a little bit misplased. But I know , a good title is needed to gain vieuwers ;-). So I suppose you know Remco is riding now to build up his form ! BTW you better should watch out for Cian , he is a future tour winner. He just became 19 years old and ended 10 in the pro peleton . Just 20 second behind landa

He's 23 and lacks sprinting xp, he'll learn. What the real take away is here, is Roglic way above expected performance. Really showing he isn't far from his peak shape, else he wouldn't be able to do a performance like this. That or he's going to be at peak EPO levels of climbing by the giro, which is ofcourse very unlikely.

@@MDP1702 primoz still managed to perform like this last year at the paris nice and criterium even before peaking for the tdf, won dauphine even though he got injured at itzulia and was just recovering and people were already making assumptions jonas was WAY ABOVE primoz already. Also there is no way youu are comparing primoz to his vuelta 2022 shape, he just came from a crash and barely did some training unlike remco who had a proper training for la vuelta. arent you making a lot of assumptions for primoz? you seem convinced hes close to his ceiling. Remember he did a bad TT at tirreno yet still won the race.

@MDP1702 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrezzSpideyzzz This was likely better than Paris-Nice or criterium last year imo, though not necessarily easy to compare considering different circumstances. I did defend Roglic' chances at the TdF last year before his crash. He still carried over some TdF shape and while he didn't have a good preparation, that isn't really the first time we see him go into a vuelta with subpar preparation after a failed/crashed out TdF. We can look at his performances in last year vuelta vs normally. His performances at last year vuelta were under his normal peak level, but not be a lot, ranging somewhere between 0,3-0,1w/kg on average. If he has that shape currently, he has a some improvement margin, but then so should Remco with altitude training reaching full potential after 4-6 weeks (only 2-2,5 now) and still being a bit too heavy. He did a bad TT while starting at a bad time weather wise, only 2-3 riders did better in similar weather. And this for his first race isn't bad at all. He won the race with boni seconds and might have been lucky in that mountain stage, though seeing how he does here, it might have been more tactical then we'd guessed back then.

the way almeida climbs is just so "hard" to watch. if you like him you're like where did he go ? can he do the usually and appear out of thin air ? and if you don't want him there, you're like where did he came ? he wasnt one of the first to stay out ? but than you have the slovenians pure amazing riding lessons right left and center, amaging surges when its needed but we saw cleared the diference in experience beteween remco and primoz. The portuguese "problem" with soler seems more like a UAE tactics/roles problem, the only leader you have secure is pog... the rest is a battle of ego's, but soler deserved so much the 4th place on gc today . Also imo soler never should've drop on the other stage, only yates could be questioned because of the gc position... (annd even there we go back to team tactics and check why they dont believe almeida could've come back, and yates stayed to "protec " soler , wich not even that he did)
