Not to take ANYTHING away from Prince...as if....but the framework is that there are myriad of potential "Princes". We are not ever just seeing a lone diamond in the rough, no, we are seeing the effects of oppressive systems that suppress the emergence and livelihood of artistic geniuses like Prince. Point n case : at least a third of the commenters in the thread UNDERSTAND Prince's genius How many can dabble or replicate is a slightly different matter but nonetheless, the human artistic excellence is there...but how is it supported...suppressed? THAT'S more concerning to me than tokenizing artists. Edit: I don't think he made his music hard to cover simply so other artists couldn't cover him. I think it was to also make it hard for his music to co-opted and cheaply used and sampled by capitalists for shitty commercials and propaganda.

he changed his name to a symbol because of his horrible contract which refers to prince as the artist, and owning the "ARTISISTs" rights and publishing, in perpetuity.

Love it.. that's awesome haha I gradually started doing this type of stuff to my own music over time not really knowing why, and now it's an integral part of my whole process at every stage... anything I can tweak or embed or hide or weave together in a unique way I do it, and I lean into all my human imperfections and natural tendencies too, even when they're supposedly a bit "off" or considered unorthodox or wrong to do in a given situation. It's cool to see artists like Prince and Dr. Dre are the same way as me.. after thinking I was just being a crazy person all this time 😆 All I know is I've always pictured some hack artist or evil corporation in the future, on the other end of my music.. trying to use my creations for their own purposes, or easily duplicate what took a lifetime for me to develop, without putting in what I had to in order to earn it... just by reverse engineering it and stealing sounds/vibes/etc. I invented. Or more recently, some KZbinr, dissecting my work in 15 minute videos for every half assed bedroom producer in the world who loads up a copy of FL Studio to be able to cheaply imitate. As an artist.... Idk what it is, but I just REALLY REALLY REALLY don't like the thought of such things. These are our babies, and we work hard to find our true selves and paths in life, and it takes alot for us to be able to give them life and nurture our inner artists and the music itself for so long and so consistently that it starts to become that real magic stuff only the special music out there is made of... and staying true to that, making sure everything is authentic right down to every last drop of energy we put unto it, which is the same energy that comes across to the listener on the other end, over great distances, expanses of time, even language & cultural barriers can fall by the wayside with certain songs.. it's legit magic, you can transfer the energy of everything you went through and learned and experienced and put into it, into written/recorded/mixed songs & albums, then it can be opened back up and experienced by anyone in the world forever. So anyone trying to look at what we do, pretend it can be reverse-engineered just by analyzing the work itself, and throwing resources at the situation.. and go around passing off something completely different that just SEEMS on the surface to be the same thing, to the world, using the power & resources of the machine to make endless worse & worse imitations, fake copies, and saturate the market with it til the very things that make us unique and special become the sounds that annoy humanity most about that era... and use it to sell the population on all manner of deceit and self-destructive & divisive propaganda, using our own music to do the exact opposite of what we created it for, to the point we get lost in a sea of garbage imitations of ourselves and seem like just another hack doing the same shit as everyone else....... THAT. I just can't even stand the thought of it, Idk how to even describe it, but I think it's IN US from the start, like an instinct to protect your actual child... that's how I've come to understand it. So yeah... like I said, it's nice to see that other artists, especially of such a high caliber, thinking and doing these things I once thought I was a total weirdo fir doing 🤣 PS.. I think what I just said is closer to the real explanation of why Prince did those things... not just bro's neat little package answer of assuming Prince just had some strange distaste for the concept of cover bands! 😂🤣💀 Like come on dude, Prince was a genius... but gets painted as a weirdo for it, when there was more than likely ALWAYS a method to his supposed madness. Js.... Cheers folks! 🍻 ✌️😎 🔹️🔷️CYRUS🔷️🔹️
@CyrusAugustus7 ай бұрын
Btw... that doesn't go for GENUINE musical influences coming out ORGANICALLY in new & uniquely reinterpreted ways, throughout a true artist's journey and catalog. OR.. studying the greats and slowly adding tools you learn from them to your own belt to use at will when the perfect situations come up in your own music. This is entirely natural and it's a crucial aspect of ALL GREAT ARTISTS lives & work, period. It's just part of it... but a line needs to be drawn between that and what I described above (*in my original post), bc they're in no way similar, other than on the surface and from a great distance, and to the masses of casual onlookers with no involvement in the industry other than being music fans. The difference is where it comes from, and the journey of the true artist/songwriter, and the amount of years & development & real world life experiences & growth that goes behind that.... and the inspiration that chooses that artist to go to, that none of us really understands, because that artist stayed on their path through thick & thin, despite all the pressures to give up; and the fact that one is based on truth & being authentic, while the other is based on bullshit & trying to capitalize on things you didn't earn; for profit or any other selfish or foul agenda. Just to be clear.

No,no,no comparison, music is just your inspiration,they both composed,produced,and written songs, prince may plays many instruments it's just gift ,like in the bible,some receive more gifts than the others,all prince albums have sold around 150 millions, when just one Michael album sells 120 millions copies ,l don't even need to named it,l'll let you guess,many artists like Steve Wonder, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen,boosty Colins, sting, Teddy Riley,babyface,r.kelly etc... are multi-instrumentalists,why we Nevers mention their musical gifs, for me playing several instruments is just a plus,that doesn't make you the goat,like l said before, God gives more gifts than others,the most important is how and why you use it, prince is very talented,makes beautifull songs,a showman,etc... Michael calls himself an instrument of nature in this way God gives him the inspiration to share is love and messages of peace for a better world to through his music and his others gifts for the general interest and not for his own ego, me,myself and l,that the différence between the two, Michael is not afraid to collaborate with others,to bringing out the best from the artists with whom he collaborates, you can see it in the rehearsals of the this it tour how he works with his musicians and espacialy the guitarist woman he controls everything, you said when we asked prince who is better of the two and he smiles that means a lot , Michael set the bar very high it exeeds what is the true définition of the greatest artists of all the time in all the fields ,the day of his death,the internet connexion exploded more than the day of the élection of the first black president of the united states Barack Obama.may they both rest in peace,may God bless you in the precious and mighty name of our lord jesus Christ Amen Amen Amen 💯✌️👍🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
