Man, I actually have gotten to the point when I see a new post from this channel, I refuse to watch it until I have absolute quiet time with no distractions. I'm currently hiding in an unreserved conference room at work to see your latest masterpiece and I'm not disappointed. You're animation skills have become NEXT LEVEL!!! The opening shot of Prince on a mountain with lightning bolts raining down?!?! DAAAAAAYUUUUHM!!!! That's got to be a POSTER my friend! And some folks have beat me to the compliment but the slooooow crawl of UPTOWN revealing itself from behind the city skyline...... very inspired and just so cool!!! 👋👋👋👋🤓🤓🤓 The only downer for me as a rabid Prince fan is just the obvious, a sequel to Purple Rain was inevitable and it deserved to be in the capable hands of actual, professional screenwriters and film makers. Yes, he had great ideas and I'll even give Kim some props but lord, this movie could've extended his career a bit more instead being one of the nails in the coffin so to speak. Great video as always!! Can't wait for the next one!!!

Your unique fabulous Prince-umentaries are turning into works of art themselves!🤩 Before you even put 'UPTOWN' I was thinking of 'Uptown'! Prince not only created a kind of purple world, Prince created his own culture, a way of life, a way of self love, self esteem, walking even, a unique alternative to the norm, to what others think are cool, and yes, of viewing the world. Beautiful intro Sinnik22. Alan Leeds... tsk, tsk, tsk.... no, no, no, Prince WAS happy with Lovesexy, he wasn't happy with Alan. And the other managers. Lovesexy could have been bigger, granted it was ethereal and extremely artistically unclear, but that's what ART IS. Art of any kind is up for interpretation, careful study and analysis almost, like fruit, or something that you squeeze or work at it to ... GET IT. Lovesexy was kind of a spiritual challenge for the public. It wasn't bigger because there was no movie and the general public had associated Prince WITH A MOVIE. Thus, to get back to that success, the Batman '89 movie was an opportunity for the public to re-associate Prince WITH an exciting movie. Tick, tick, bang and it was a success! Danny wasn't aggravated, he was jealous. Period. Representative of the kind of oh, only THEY can do something great. Not a Prince. Examples of the adversity, which to some degree will be there in anything really, that Prince faced at the time.
@BASHERSKINZ2 жыл бұрын
I think Lovesexy wasn't bigger because of the album cover
@Sinnik222 жыл бұрын
You’re posts are well thought out , challenging, and thankfully complementary. I never considered the public association at the time with princes music and the release of a film. It does make sense because video was huge & prince didn’t spend a lot of time on individual narrative for his videos.
@randy58802 жыл бұрын
Lovesexy had a lot going on. Compact disc was a new tech, but Prince insisted on 1 track. The fight for When Doves Cry good call. 1 track… maybe not. The confidence was real but some decisions were not the best. I love the album. I had cassette and it was one of my first CDs. Tour was amazing. When I got my hands on that bootleg German show 🤯. That should’ve been put out. Album has great songs! Alphabet St looks like an AV project. I know he didn’t like to spend for videos. I Wish U Heaven was good. Glam Slam still one of my fav songs. Album deserved so much more.
@randy58802 жыл бұрын
@Tony Dortmund. It wasn’t released in the US. I agree with the artistic decision. Then the show should’ve have been Lovesexy in order. But I’m very thankful it was not.

@@Sinnik22 ;3 Oh it does. Kim Jong Ill saw Princes 'Bat-Dance' music video at one point, & He told papers or some people in the USA that he'd LITERALLY sing the ronrey-rong from Team America, ON stage if hollywood would let him play every character in a Batman-movie, Similar but more so than what prince did in the music video. I SAW the bat-dance.. But never knew he did that until way later. The first time i saw him was as a kid when he was doing a performance on some music video, Grabbed his crotch and said 'Suck it baby!' xD He was someone who was SO wrong for a Batman superhero-movie, And weirdly-enough at the same time was so horribly-RIGHT, It wouldnt have been the same without him! And while he may not have been the right tone for 'Batman-Returns,' He definitely was qualified to contribute songs to 'Kickass,' Or something else like that (Instead of that stupid over-monologing they do in it) And for whatever reason despite all his talent.. He never completely got his due, But if he had it would have looked like more than one rehire for a superhero-movie in some capacity or another.

1989, the Batman release...Prince was in the spotlight, for most of that year. The Prince- Kim relationship was plastered across every tabloid for months, and there is a lot of old tea on some of the crazy stuff that went down prior to her disappearance from Paisley. Carmen said Kim's stuff was still in the drawers of the room she stayed in when she first got to Paisley, and Robin Powers dropped a lot of hot goss about those two (as well as herself), after Prince passed: you did get in the wrinkly knee shade. Poor Anna Fantastic was a flash in the pan of his Purple Badness. I never agree with half of what Eric, Alan, and a lot of Revolution leftovers negative commentary about Lovesexy: it was a mind blowing live show, period. Prince, with the exception of Graffiti Bridge, was on fire. The SNL's 15th anniversary performance of Electric Chair on SNL has no competition: flawless. Prince was a beautiful cat, for sure.

Man, Alan Leeds is such an Eeyore. He never seems to get why Prince dumped WB. Leeds acts like the recording industry was the best thing since sliced bread because he was never the artist getting ripped off by it, he was the manager cashing in. The 2 positions are NOT parallel. One has to wonder, after working for James Brown and Prince for decades, and all the theft by the recording industry STILL happening, why, in 2022, he sounds so unsupportive.
@Sinnik222 жыл бұрын
That generation (Leeds, who I respect greatly)is grateful to bosses. Prince was heading up the new generation that asked “why are you a boss when You’re living off of my back?”
@reginafris68222 жыл бұрын
@@Sinnik22 Which is my point: Leeds is no dummy. Why is he so invested in the financial microcosim, and not the macrocosim? He knew what the breakdown of the industry profit margins were for artists! Yet Leeds spends all this time analyzing how Prince made poor business choices, and lost money, yet always avoids the topic of how many MILLIONS from Prince's work fed the WB machine. The lost tour money was chump change by comparison.Leeds believed in that machine. He was counting pennies and missing pounds. Doesn't matter: Prince figured out how 2 beat the system. I used to respect Alan Leeds, but not anymore. He is only an authority on Prince until the early 90's. He doesn't emphasize that enough: Prince did great without him, For 23 years, they had no contact.A little humility goes a long way toward credibility. There is this patriarchal vibe that weirds me out that is not part of the Boomer generation, which definitely challenged the status quo. Prince was only 11 years younger than Alan.
