This engine 6235 city of Birmingham was always at Crewe sheds where I was a fireman London and to Glasgow. I have fired on all types at Crewe, and when I started to work at Crewe,this 6235 was still in at Crewe as a Streamliners But was very dirty, lt was 1947 when I started at Crewe. They were the best job I ever had but I left in 1954. With the 10000/10001 Diesels were teeing over from steam .i had the best time. Geoff Hillyard. Now 86 years old..

Totally agree with the other comments, this locomotive should have been restored back to operational condition, when they moved it from the other Museum, it is still not too late if anybody has got the money to do it, but it will obviously cost more than it would have done then.

theres 46229 duchess of Hamilton in streamlined condition personally think city of Birmingham looks nicer in non streamlined condition

A crying shame. That loco will likely never steam again. Would be amazing to see her attacking Shap or Beattock again but the phenomenal cost of restoration and mainline readiness will put paid to that.

some shots there but it saddens me thinking this beauty is stuck in a building and it can't get out , they should release her to a trust so she can be along her sisters and have the only 3 members of the class together

46229 is at york also enclosed in a building though think this one were Birmingham lives was built around her

Brillant simon, some very nice people are going to reguage her to mainline steam becaue she would foul the overhead lines she will completed by 2015 hopefully
