Well, if the objective is to bring viewers (all viewers, not just book purists), then making it more accessible is a good idea. Besides, Frank Herbert's books never really went into what it was like for the average Imperium citizen.

I think they are showing Ynez slowly losing her humanity to the Bene Gesserit which might be what causes Keiran Atreides to despise Valya Harkonnen. Another list of various forgotten reasons why the feud exists.
