My sister and brother are deaf and we are from Ireland so as you probably know catholic priests and nuns basically ran our country up until the last thirty years they had immense power everywhere especially in schools. Unfortunately my sister who is now 36 was sent to a boarding school in Dublin for deaf and mute girls and child abuse was rampant even the night men were coming into the dorms and molesting the girls that were mute because they believed they could get away with it. That was st Mary’s school for the deaf in Dublin. What he shared about his grandmother's funeral strikes a chord. When my dad got sick my mom had to go to the parish office and PAY to have the church pray for him. They neglected to mention his name during the Mass and when we complained they mispronounced his name. When he died they only sent the priest out because I worked for the church. Meanwhile, an Adventist chaplain from the Philippines was much more helpful to our family. We didn't bother to have the Catholic church do the funeral. Right after that COVID hit and when other parishoners died, the Catholic priests wouldnt even go to their homes because they were afraid of the virus. A LOT of people left the church after that.

I'm 38 years old and grew catholic in a small town in michigan. Before we could make communion we had to go to a seminary. We are talking 8 years old. Me and 2 other guys actually made a pact we don't go anywhere without eachother because the since of predation. One of the most tragic yet hilarious moments of my life was the funeral of my mother, who converted to protestantism on her deathbed desite having long since been a "nonbeliever" or at the very least a sceptic of religion. A priest changed my view of the church, no funny buisness but he had a disagreement with my dad about keeping the school open. My dad was terminally ill and on his death bed my dad wanted to apologize for the disagreement and the the priest refused to forgive him on his death bed and then years later lied to me and told me my mom filled my head with lies about it and he never did that even though I was there. You couldn't disagree with him cuz he thought his word was God's word.

Non practicing Catholic here. While i respect the stories...i feel much the same way. If were all sinners, how would we not make a manipulative book to encourage others to live a certain way, especially second hand stories of Jesus. Weve all done the school studies showing stories change over time and end up fictional. So I'm personally skeptical 95% of the time. Now the pro god part i feel is there is something of higher thinking and creation than us. Intuition tells me this so there has to be something to it. To be good to others. But i always felt that was a journey i had to take for myself, leading myself to it. Great comment. I think i get ya.

One time I went to the catholic charity's I had cancer then i talked to a priest with my 5 yr old. He asked if my son was baptized no he was not cuz it cost money he said I was the worst mom in the word cuz if he died he would go to hell my son was so tramitised he thought he was going to die.
