A marine fob,my battalion fell under their authority,we did joint ops with the marines. Learned a lot about the Marine Corps.Did 2 deployments back-to-back. Had many reasons why I chose to volunteer,I was very bored at my civilian job & going to school.It was either be a cop or deploy to Iraq.I chose Iraq. I just graduated from Jackson right before the holidays. I have 12 years active Coast Guard with no break in service. I switched for the WOFT program. I know several other prior enlisted Coasties, Navy, and Airforce and we all had different experiences. I was in gen pop, not allowed to wear my SGT stripes and not treated special at all. My buddy had his own room, phone and Sunday’s off. He even had computer access to get ahead on his WOCS processing. Like DS Swartz says it’s all up to CO. 2 other NCO’s in my battalion had NCO privileges but they were in a different company. Going through a second time sucks but it’s way easier and fun to watch the young guys panic. CG boot camp was way harder btw.

@@TEAMSWARTZ The comparison is honestly difficult it was 2008 vs 2020 while Covid 19 was going on. The swimming requirement were no issue for me and is very much an individual responsibility to come prepared for. Physically both trainings were on par with each other. CG required a lot more attention to detail and held us to a higher standard of military bearing. The academic portion in the CG was also much harder. The hardest part of Army Basic was rucking, I’m not used to that, esp in the bricks, I mean boots, they issued us. I feel like Covid 19, social differences, and training methods are evolving, and played a huge roll in how army basic is now. I don’t know what CG boot camp is like now. Thanks for your work on these videos, they helped me before going to basic and I thought I’d stop back by to give some post basic feedback. If you're at Fort Benning they're going to put you into Delta Company (30th AG), the barracks are near the RHU barracks (guys getting sent home for medical reasons, etc.), they have a gym and computer lab, and you're allowed to order food. If you're a Specialist or Sergeant, you can ask your commander for permission to use your phone and turn it in before lights out. We had two guys from the Marine Corp who made their own "cage" in the barracks and never had to get smoked with the other trainees (if that platoon was getting smoked in the Bay). There's sooooo much to talk about with regards to prior service in BCT at Fort Benning. It really should be no problem other than getting your source documents such as Birth Certificate HS Diploma, dd 214, Social Sec card and Driver license. You have to redo the ASVAB and take the physical down at meps. Unless there issues, A DMDC check will be ran on you anyway. You most likely will go back into your old MOS unless its overstrength, But there has to be a reason you can't back in such as a rank waiver or you met RCP. or your sep code and reentry code says something else

If you say nothing, they’ll know usually by the roster or no later than your initial counseling session on what’s expected of you during training and as a Soldier. Which happens with the first 72hrs typically. Privileges are explained within the video but your experience may vary due to it being OSUT. Be prepared to drink the coolaid or eat grass like you said lol. But like I say in the video, separate sleeping quarters is based on availability and CMD desecration. You’ll do what everyone else is doing but you shouldn’t be F’d with too much. Good luck and best wishes in Training! 💪🏼 Make the best of it, have fun and do your best! I’ve got 17 years in the game and SFC. For prior service, seems like you could come up with ways ( don’t malinger of course ), to stay at reception ( although that sucked back in 1996 ), and wait in a bubble until enough prior service got there to go through the refresher course. Come to think of it BCT would be more fun than reception in a holdover bubble painting parking lot stripes, so never mind.

So I have been out for 7 years in 3 weeks, I spoke to a recruiter and he said I would likely have to attend BCT again as a requirement to get back into the National Guard... I am actually really pumped about it. I really didn't mind BCT but my question is do you get BAH as a prior service soldier? I was also curious, I would be going in as an E4 (what I was when I got out the first time) but I did get awarded a CAB in Iraq as well as, obviously, a deployment patch. Would I wear these?
@TEAMSWARTZ3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you’ll wear them on graduation but the pin on won’t be allowed due to the training involved. If your training is less than 20weeks, Yes you’ll get BAH. If it goes beyond 20 weeks will require a waiver. Which for single soldiers typically are denied and only Soldiers with Dependents have been getting approved. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

The video has been much appreciated. I have a bit of an odd question that neither my recruiter nor MEPs liaisons were able to answer. How do Class As work for prior service when issued in basic? Are we given our full set or do we just wear the same blank uniform as the IET soldiers?

Excellent vid and bang on what I was hoping for when I came back to your channel. So my ETP was DENIED! But I was expecting that...22 years is a LONG time, and I'm just happy to get back in. I'm shipping 8 March. I heard what you said about bringing extra rank (I'm a SGT) and will take your advice, but are you saying leave the EIB and Parachutist badge at home (seems to be the gist of the graphics but just checking). Also, with the COVID vaccine out now (and we just filled out a form at RSP drill this weekend about getting screened for it), is there any buzz on the chances of getting out of yellow phase if you get inoculated PRIOR to reporting to BCT? The mind is right, I'll guzzle the Koolaid, but given that I'll be starting BCT at age 57 (and no, that isn't a typo), I'd like to keep my close quarters tango with The Suck to the minimum.

I was recently denied to enlist a Soldier whom I successfully got a 368 and unit support from AD Army and was blocked and cancelled by MEPS for processing saying it’s against Army Regulation to go from AD to Guard/Reserve using the dd368. Someone asked me this similar situation coming from another branch and I’ll let you know. Reach out to my by Monday for the answer. But if you’re going to AIT Typically you’re not allowed POV regardless if you’re PS due to the fact no trainees are aloud to drive in an initial entry training environment unless you obtain prior approval from the school house through your chain of command. Typically you’ll be housed separately away from the noobs and also have a separate break area. Thank you so very much for watching this video and i hope stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Without an ETP you’ll be required to redo BCT, unfortunately. If you’re lucky enough to go to the actual intended PS Variation of BCT would be ideal but no one has gotten that yet. I preface this question/scenario with this: I understand circumstances are not static and your insight is not “law”, so please don’t think I’ll take your answer as “this is what’s gonna happen”. I was a Direct Commission in the Air Guard for a year (left due to a family hardship caused by COVID) and am now in the process of joining the ARNG and go through OCS. Is that time I spent considered prior service? I had to submit a suitability, so “paperwork” wise, it tells me yes. But, I don’t assume it does. I’m just curious from your perspective what the army would see me as. I see me as a day 0 😂.
@TEAMSWARTZ9 ай бұрын
You’ll do Army Basic Training and if you never fully completed all your initial entry training: BCT/OCS/BOLC (as an officer) you’ll be considered like a hybrid. You’re prior service with the little service you completed but failed to become fully commissioned or failed to complete all your training and will be treated like NPS. We call this status GNPS (glossary non-prior service). Essentially, you’re non-prior service with little experience. Because you didn’t complete Army Basic Training, you’ll go through out training. You’ll require a prior service suitability, admin waiver for your premature discharge and any other possible waivers. You’ll have credit of one year of service for retirement purposes too.

I know he was airborne and air assault with 2 or 3 rows of ribbons at graduation. The drills didn't mess with him really. He was in leadership positions the whole time. I was an E4, they liked to call me overpaid private. I was pretty squared away with high GT and PT scores.. I was never singled out until the last day of BRM turning in our weapons the last time. I let my guard down and left my dust cover open. The drills exact words were "come here overpaid private, we been waiting for you". They all ganged up on me to smoke me for about 15 minutes. They took turns. It was more like them being happy they finally got me. Smoked me in front of the whole company turning in weapons. They were laughing more than being serious. Good times...haha

I am curious if you have put any NCOs in recently or trained any at BCT as a Drill that you could link up with for an interview for a future video or if you have any plans for making a video specifically addressing the experiences of being a NCO going back through BCT? For a point of reference, I'm going from BDU/DCU to OCP, a lot has changed within the NCO Corps and I am curious as to what BCT CMDs might be individually or collectively doing to enhance training for individuals like myself on top of the expected phases of training. I know that if there are other PS Non-Amy NCOs, I will be helping them get up to speed as army leaders and more than likely be put into class leadership roles to knock the dust off my chevrons. Like a good leader, I have already started refreshing my memory with the NCO Creed, downloaded and currently reading the Blue Book and STP 21-1, and have begun my physical readiness IOW the ACFT/APFT/FM 7-22, and trying to get up to speed with AR/DA Pam 670-1. If someone has a 50% VA disability rating and payment, does that disability rating go away if you are a prior service member and try to join the army? I know the payments have to go because of “double dipping” if you will. Then a follow up question to that would be if someone were to leave active duty again would they still have that disability rating or does it zero out?
@TEAMSWARTZ3 жыл бұрын
For Guard, max disability rating to be approved is up to 30% and have to pass a MEPS medical exam which I doubt would be favorable. Those who go reserve of AD who could possibly get waiver don’t receive pay. You’ll do it for retirement points because you’re already making a lot due to disability. Something along those lines.

I completed bct but failed the last pt test on the run. Completed range qualification and victory forge. This was when ft Jackson was moving from trailers to the buildings they have now in 2014. Would I have to do BCT again? I have all the training docs.

SFC Swartz, I'm a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force doing an inter-service transfer to Active Duty Army with no break in service. From what I read on the Prior Service Business Rules I wouldn't have to do BCT since I went through Air Force Security Forces Tech School, but my recruiter is telling me that I have to go through BCT. Have the Business Rules changed? Do I need to submit an ETP? If I have to go then I have to go, but I want to know my options, the facts if you will.
@TEAMSWARTZ3 жыл бұрын
There is an ETP Request that can be submitted but not guaranteed. A SMOM or Update simply states anyone regardless of branch of service to include the Army requires BCT to be completed if you’ve surpassed your 5th year anniversary of your discharge date. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Drill sergeant Swartz i recently ets’s from active duty in September 2020 as a 92A but was considered joining back up to get a feel on the combat side of the army more specifically 11B or 19D will i have to go through the whole BCT course or do i qualify for that RSP course you mentioned in the video
@TEAMSWARTZ3 жыл бұрын
You won't require to complete BCT unless you've been out of service for 5 or more years. Based on what you stated, No and it's up to your state on whether or not you'll attend RSP. Typically, one would go straight to their assigned unit. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

I wonder why they did away with the "refresher course"? Having prior service go through basic again seems a bit much. If I had to go through the full basic experience again, I think I would have a hard time taking it seriously, considering that once you go to the real army they basically drill into you that basic was a game and is essentially has very little to do with day to day army life lol. Good video though!
@TEAMSWARTZ3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million and they recreated the idea of the ReFresher Course but haven’t implemented it yet. It’s frustrating I’m sure. I think the real issue is the volume of PS going through BCT is so low that it’s hard to plan and coordinate a designated course like that at the four locations. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Can you imagine a prior service SSG or SFC having to go back through basic. Imagine if they were also a former drill sergeant. That would feel awkward. It's the reason when I got out the first time in 1993, the army prior service window was closed so I was going go to the marine corps until the army prior service window opened up. The only reason I left the marine corps recruitment process and went back on active duty for the army was because I did not want to go through marine boot camp even though I had went to army basic training in 1989.

If you’ve already successfully completed BCT/AIT/OSUT, you won’t be allowed to redo BCT. The guidance now is you have to have been out of service for 5 or more years. If you failed out of BCT or OSUT, then you’ll be required to complete BCT. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

More than not they’ll approve your request but again, that request cannot be made until after you sign your contract. Ask your recruiter about the 5 week AIC/Army Integration Course that is a 5week gentlemen’s course in Lue of BCT

I did 3 years in the army guard, then switched to Active Air Force for 4 years. Been out since 2006. I have applied for va benefits tinnitus and high BP. I am 42 years old with a bachelor's in nursing. Been a nurse for 13 years now. My weight is at 320 and I'm 6ft tall. I have the itch to want to try the military again in a reserve roll. Getting the weight down would not be a problem, would just take time. Where would I start? As a junior nco or officer? I plan on attending Mental Health Nurse Practitioner School soon and want to enlist as an officer.
