The scene where the black guu came out of Subaru and the demon dogs getting wrecked by the dragon, those where the remaining curses that were still in him from season one and the dragon blood curse purged them. Remember, the curses were still in him but since all the dogs died, they couldn't be activated again.

A big part of season 2 was that Subaru learning that he does not need to overly rely on return by death to be useful. He has grown to the point where now he has the charisma, leadership and strategic skills to be useful even without return by death. His physical abilities have improved a lot too.

You onto nothing lil bro 😭🙏 he's not a sin archbishop or the cult remember anyone affiliated with them can get sensed like how ram sensed Subaru with the witch's aura(return by death) within him and that's why she killed him in arc 2 twice. Al might be more like Subaru than you think. Read cut content. It's not a spoiler at this point but it was revealed all the way back in arc 3 that Al is in a similar situation to Subaru

to add on to what another comment said : Subaru now has 2 curses clashing inside of him, which now gave him somewhat of a blessing : he won't transform into an ugly creature and his new leg has renegeration and boosted physical abilities (seen by how he could outspeed and run away from the ugly beast, will probably be shown more in next episodes). However, he is lucky that the dragon blood isnt affecting his entire body, otherwise his return by death would become incredibly hard to pull off

The witch's tea party in season 2 didn't just make Subaru decide to survive without relying on return by death, but also questioned whether his power is actually overpowered. Echidna says the only one who can answef whether he actually goes back in time and doesn't jump to a parallel world while everyone's still suffering is Satella. And she never does, she only talks about Subaru. So he's left with a 50/50 chance that his authority actually UNDOES everything vs just letting escape somewhere it hasn't happened and save a new version of every person he loves. So dying is like flipping a coin to decide whether he'll abandon those he cares about here or save them, except he doesn't even see the outcome. Do you still feel like he should die to get a better result, while wondering if he's just increasing the disasters in worlds left behind?

Cut/ possibly retconned for anime content from volume 6, season 1 ep 16. Could also mildly spoil a future Al bit in the anime. - Rem actually warned Subaru about him in a failed loop because of miasma, and Al no longer seemed trustworthy to Subaru despite also being from Japan because in that loop he mistakes Rem for Ram then when corrected gets angry and says she shouldn't exist, says it's disgusting when they've left. Although it's a big cut to the anime I very much think they want people to be suspicious of him. But there's more Al stuff later anyway so never mind.
