This is just my take on it, but I think that the March to Baghdad kept him sane in a way. While he was in action, he had something to keep him focused: his job. Driving and operating the radio. It was something to keep his mind occupied, which meant he was less focused on the idiocy of the leadership in the Battalion. When the invasion was over and they heard they were going home, he had no more outlet. Nothing to keep his mind occupied, so he lashed out.

Fun fact, they remain friends to this day, specially Brad and the reporter, Encino-man and Cpt. America were basically forced to abandon their careers as the articles and the book made everyone in the military disregard them, oh and Sgt. Major Sixta is in prison for child abuse he was a pedophile...

If there's one thing more entertaining than watching "Generation Kill," it's watching "Generation Kill" in the company of non-Marines. They just look puzzled, chuckle nervously, get a little slack-jawed like they don't know what to make of it. And I sit there thinking how stranger and funny it is, the things you miss once you're out for awhile. I laughed my ass off when they were singing "Loving You" while driving down the road. Not the act itself, that is.
