This is how I used to get started. There's another one you can do as well. Build your basic office stuff and spend most of your money on a huge box of a building. Put in one toilet and all the bunk beds you can afford. Turn on your prisoner intake after a few days so you have a large backlog of min sec. Once you've taken in as many as you can you sell your prison because on paper it is a perfect prison with cap for 200+ inmates. In reality it's a powder keg about to explode but that's not your problem anymore :P Start a new prison with 500k in the bank and plant trees :D

I've just spent the afternoon doing this for shits and giggles. On day 45, and exporting 181,000 wood per day, with a prison value of 1.3 million. It's like watching an ant farm. Edit: The best way to get trucks to come pick up the logs is to put your export zone beneath the delivery and garbage zones, then extend that export zone all the way to the bottom of the map. That way you've got trucks delivering seeds, then they go all the way to the end of the export zone to be loaded up, all the while you've got empty trucks queuing up to be loaded as well. Once you get a pipeline of workers taking the logs to the export zone, the trucks will line up almost non-stop. Just from goofing around with this for a few days, it seems like expanding a lot and having a huge map full of forresty areas in various stages of growth leads to diminishing returns in terms of profit. A smaller map works almost as well as a huge one, making about the same money per day.
@2009dudeman2 жыл бұрын
I've found the limit at a certain point is the time it takes to walk all the way from the outskirts to the road. Then once you have 100+ workers the limit is how fast the trucks drive. A few years back when I was playing, I was building a massive 150 inmate expansion to my prison in a single go. The trucks were backed up like gridlock unloading and loading, but they were still slower than my tree farm harvest even with a road packed with trucks.
@HippieInHeart2 жыл бұрын
With prisoners around (I mostly only use this strategy small-scale to build my prison without having to watch my money in early game) the best way to do it is to put exports between delivery and garbage to make sure that exports will always be taken before garbage. Without prisoners, you can just replace garbage with exports and then extend exports from all the way down at the bottom to delivery. if you then make a small delivery zone up at the very top, the export zone will be huge.

*The Legend of the Dragonborn's Armor* At first glance, it's mainly just a pretty lame armor mod that gives you some overpowered Dragonbone armor to steal from the Dragonsreach Castle. But looking further, the mod comes with a special bow...a bow with an enchantment that spawns 9 more arrows for each one you fire. The arrows drop to the ground with no speed, *BUT,* when firing the bow directly in front of an enemy, *ta-da. Shotgun bow.*

The most profitable prison in the country. Does not have a single prisoner in it.
@celebrim16 жыл бұрын
Which, if you think about it, makes absolutely perfect sense. What we have discovered here is that a business is more profitable than incarcerating criminals. And, yeah, that is what you would expect.
@MakeBadComments6 жыл бұрын
In reality, US prisons are businesses, and they are very profitable. They are run like hotels, by the private sector. Except, to keep the rooms full, they buy lobbyists instead of advertising. All the money wasted on prisons, it's one of the more unfortunate products of capitalism. @@celebrim1
@celebrim16 жыл бұрын
Capitalism requires a product, and if it does not have one, it is only rent-seeking behavior leveraging the political power of authorities and public funds which a free market would limit or eschew. I wonder, do you think that prisons only exist in free countries?
@Nebuli26 жыл бұрын
Prisons do have a product. The constitution is clear that prisoners can be used as slaves, ergo a prison can leverage its prisoners as dirt cheap laborers.
@celebrim16 жыл бұрын
@Nebuli2: Sure, they can. But, the product would be then what the prisoners produce, not the prison itself. And, the situation you describe where prisoners are kept to perform "hard labor" is now a rare one and is not associated with private prisons or the modern prison system generally. It is in fact more associated with the old state prison systems were wardens were given virtually unlimited authority over the prisoners charged to them. The charge that can be legitimately made against the modern prison system is not that they have lots of prisoners on chain gangs and the like, but rather that they have too many prisoners serving long sentences for non-violent drug possession crimes. And that, again, is not something the libertarian free market would encourage, and which, the current wave of drug legalization is likely to resolve. Now, if you don't support drug decriminalization, then you can blame that on "capitalism" since the drug is a product. But prisons themselves are part of the government centric command economy, since they thrive on regulation and receive their funds through taxation.
