I just want to say man you are my favorite youtuber synthesis music content creator. I been watching so many people over the last 6 years many who i stopped following. You just stand out as just chill, not promoting or pushing products and you get deep into music creation knowledge. So I appreciate you. I learnt most of my pro3 from you !! It’s a synth I would never sell. Peace!!

Wow. short rant coming up: I remember watching this a couple of years ago right before buying my first synth. atm this hidden gem of a video only got 55k views. - But still! 55k people have been blessed with this perfect introduction to sounddesign. its been 2 years since I bought the Moog Grandmother and short time after the Matriarch. Now my room is filled with synths, compressors and modules and a diploma in electronic music. I must give you a huge thanks, Ricky. Thanks for helping me choose the right path. My life has changed drastically for the better and your videos was part of my guidance. sorry for getting personal.. but man I loved this video!

A few weeks ago, I had no intention of buying another hardware synth after being pretty happy in the software / VST world for years now. My friend sent me this video randomly -- the patch you made blew my mind. What a crazy analog/digital hybrid synth! As a Virus A owner, this synth's characteristics spoke to me. I pretty much went on a journey looking at the different hardware synths out there, just for fun. I kept coming back to watching Pro 3 videos. Drawing comparisons to other synths (Like the MatrixBrute, for example). Pro 3 kept winning my interest. Slowly I got the urge to buy one. And then I did! I credit this video and the amazing job you did showing what a broad range of sounds this synthesizer is capable of. An incredible, unintentional performance emerged out of an innocent envelope tutorial video. Well played man. You sold a synth! Thank you.

Something I really like about Ricky is that when you say something that's nonsense, you'll acknowledge and correct it instead of styling it out. Realness. I'm trying to learn FM on my RefaceDX (which only has one envelope) so the audio tutorials are also PD awesome of course, so thank you.
@TheGrelots4 жыл бұрын
Wait isn't it one enveloppe per osc like the rest of the dx line?
@Justin-TPG4 жыл бұрын
@@TheGrelots You are correct! It’s one envelope per op and of course if you use e.g. a two into two algorithm you could probably produce something like the sound being done here. I should have a crack at getting as close as I can. My brain was for some reason thinking of two algorithms working together to create that delay. Thanks for the correction/reminder!
@nicog80624 жыл бұрын
you can definitely achieve that one the reface dx as i've gotten something close! the interplay between the envelopes one of its strong suits actually! happy sound designing!

@TheGrelots4 жыл бұрын
@@Justin-TPG From my experience programming on the dx7 and sy77, you'll more often use the algorithms with multiple stacks than those that look complex. Don't know how far you are into fm but I'll ramble for a few paragraphs if you don't mind. I like to start by build the main tones kind of like choosing your oscillators first on a substractive synth. Single stacks are usefull either when you take an additive approach like on most preset e-pianos or when you need a sine wave (of course) I like to put them at a ratio of one and detune them to get a thicker fundamental or use two detuned sines as sub oscillators but that can feel a bit wastefull in a lot of patches. Double stacks are the bread and butter, you can make pretty much any harmonic series with them so you can have the classic analog shapes as well as much more. Three stack allow you to thicken the basic wave shape, they add harmonics above and below the harmonics from the basic 2 stack, 3 stack harmonics can be out of tune with the fundamental so you can get in harsh territory. h stacks are boring and only to be used when you don't have enough oscillators Y stacks are pretty cool and unique, first they let you save space by adding two harmonic series to one carrier but the cool part is that they let you do percussive sounds by setting one of the modulators with fast att and decay, better if it has feed back. Then, I attack the enveloppes, yes pun intended. The enveloppe on the carrier is like the amp enveloppe, as you realized you can achieve the same effect as ricky by having different enveloppes on each stacks. The ones on the modulators can wear a lot more hats, I like to think of them as filter or pulsewidth enveloppes. They change the timbre over time, they can make pads that evolve in an intersting way as well as many other things. this the meat of fm, how the modulation amount changes in relation to time, velocity, aftertouch and many other things.

single inverted envelope on the filter would work just fine, attack would be your initial short pluck and decay the "come back" of the sound. Set range using cutoff and amount. Muss less hassle and more straight forward to use.

problem with such long release and reverb is your melody needs to be build around it or you get weird harmonics. This can be well intended to be used to good effect, not the least because it's natural in any vibrating instrument, and ... I don't know what it's called in psycho accoustic, you get a contrast across notes anyway, like after images. The layered sound can still drown out the intended overtones I suppose, but you were going for a noisy pad anyway. Nicely done. Wait a second 18:38 remember Dr. Dre was sued by Lucas for copying the dolby surround trade mark sound logo 19:05 my goodness, a Spaceship entering a wormhole, is it. You'll enjoy the demoscene productions by Quiet, a lot.

It takes a bit of time, but what I used to do on another synth that had settings I didn't like was save the last patch initialized, then with my favorite starting settings. That way I'd use that everytime I went to make a new sound and I'd save it else where. Make a few copies too while you're at it haha
@MKA634 ай бұрын
@@RickyTinez Yes, I agree. I did that with my Wavestate (if you put a space at the beginning of the patch name, it puts it at the top of the sound list for wavestate.)
