Enjoying your videos. I even saved some of your recipe videos. At first, thinking that you were a chef the recipes would be so "chefy" and I wouldn't be able to do it. But then I watched the bread pudding video and saw how simple you made things to be. Also, any improvement on Kay's part is always a good sign. Jack is a hopeless case...
@JohnInTheShelter11 ай бұрын
Yes, Kay is better than Jack. But Uncle Roger gives too much weight to Kay using a non-metal spoon. I think he recognizes she is capable of learning--something the better cooks he looks at don't seem to do very often. Or maybe he just wants to be nice, so she doesn't take it so seriously.

Yeah, with cooking, there's nothing wrong with making a mistake, so long as you learn from it and make steady improvements. It's the people like Jamie Oliver, who you'd think would know better, and who intentionally ruin solid dishes because they want to get inventive that are lost causes, because that's not a training issue, it's a discipline issue.

You've got to give a huge amount of credit to Kay. She's obviously read the comments on her videos. She didn't get upset or defensive. She didn't let the comments affect her overall self esteem. What she did do is take the criticisms to heart and took the advice given to her. She is willing to learn and try again until she gets it right. People may dig on her for using prepared garlic but its an obvious reaction to the comments on her chopping ability. She recognized it as a weakness that was not likely to be quickly resolved and found a solution. May not be ideal for a pro chef, butbit worked for her. I wouldn't be surprised if a 4th fried rice video came along soon that is actually a very decent fried rice. She's got a good arc.

Pro tip: with garlic (and ginger) always always always use them fresh. Not only does the flavour disapate with the pre crushed, it also gets a really nasty aftertaste. For someone used to good food, they will be really sensitive to this. That is the secret as to why my curries are amazing. I only use fresh fresh fresh.
@deanolium5 ай бұрын
It also only takes a minute to finely chop garlic once you know what you're doing with relatively basic knife skills. I get that people are busy and all, but unless you're doing huge batches of food where you need to finely chop a whole bulb of garlic, you don't even save that much time using lazy garlic.

Honestly, her videos remind me of when I was a kid, trying to cook by myself the first few times, unsupervised, and not just microwaving. I made a lot of goofy mistakes, but by the age of 13, I could cook a whole thanksgiving turkey and a few side dishes all by myself for the family! And my big sister, an EXCELLENT cook, was never able to recreate how moist and juicy and flavorful that turkey actually was. lol (The secret was about 1 pound of butter and unreasonable amounts of seasonings I loved abusing; garlic (fresh), garlic powder, onion powder, sage, rosemary (fresh sprigs from our shrub), pepper, paprika, thyme, parsley, celery seed, lemon pepper, salt... and I forget what else.) lol
