I'm convinced Jamie's palate is different than most people's. His "kind of" recipes and hacks really feel like accidents that he enjoys. But if I've learned anything from food trends nowadays is people have a strange sense of satisfaction from the strangest things lol. I'll stick to the regular mac and cheese dishes I normally have. No chili jam, no mango chutney, no peas etc.

Jamie adds peas to everything he cooks, because he likes to taste the pea-ness in everything he eats

I didn't know there were onions and mango chutney in mac and cheese - it's "mac" & "cheese" not add whatever you want mac and cheese. Agree with passing the lumpy sauce through a sieve to save it.

@11:15. Speaking of gas stoves, have you seen the consumer health studies that show gas stoves are constantly leaking gas into the air, even when turned off and not in use? Years ago in the US, they took the lead out of gas, and crime rates dropped dramatically across the country

Honestly, this looked pretty good. Yeah, the mango chutney is a bit weird, but A. he admits it's weird, and B. he only adds a small amount, so overall this looked like a decent meal. I think Jamie deserves the hate for some of his "Asian" food, but not here...

Doesn’t look bad all things considering. I’d give it a try at least. I will say while Jamie doesn’t always cook the best when it comes to certain foods. I think there are some dishes were the recipe shouldn’t be changed. But his credit some of the “dishes” he’s made don’t look terrible. But when you see the ingredients. It just looks weird a lot of the time. Look at uncle Roger reacts to Jamie egg fried rice for an example of what not to do. Presentation wise. It wasn’t terrible. But the taste i have my doubts. I think the biggest problem in my opinion, especially when you try and do your own take on another cultures dish. A lot of cultures like example Italians, they protect it as if it was their newborn child. Vincenzos plate as an example. He makes great Italian food. I like watching his videos. But I feel like at times he over criticizes some of them. Most are bad. But not every single one of them. Uncle roger I let it slide. Cause Asian food does need to be prepared and cooked differently you can’t just use olive oil for egg fried rice. The flavour isn’t going to be the same. Especially if you then use soy sauce or fish sauce to the wok. They’re not gonna combine well and the taste it just……not gonna be good.

Growing up, we always added some dry mustard to our Mac N Cheese to added an earthy flavor. English mustard is quite strong and sour. Mango Chutney makes me laugh, as in local dialect (Ohio) we call green peppers Mangos. Way too sweet for me, I think. Why not add marmalade for a citrus hint?

He is making the Italian people ancestors cry now, HAIYA! He is offending Italian and Indian foods at the same time. He shouldn't be in a kitchen if he keep cooking Asian & European recipes like some random dude having 2.5/5 rating in his restaurant.

For the simple men that doesn't cook a lot but wants to eat good Jamie is a great chef. I also own some of his books. But he has the opposite problem than Gordon. Jamie sometimes in Asian dishes oversimpligies dishes. Gordon often overcomplicates dishes (for example italian pasta dishes). Both great chefs but Gordon is more fir advanced chefs and Jamie just for the normal human being that wants simple and quich dishes

I sware, peas, chutney, putting things where they dont belong... Did he burn his tastebuds off at some point? Like, rest of the recipe is gorgious, but that chutney, the worster sauce, whyyyyy. Also I must confess, i cant critique the want of adding peas to this specifically, ive had to make mac and cheese, with canned tuna and peas as a cheap "I'm broke" meal, and it was pretty good.

I try to at least understand where Jamie Oliver is coming from with some of these recipes...but i just cant defend him here. At the very least for the Asian Dishes, hes appealing to a very specific audience: White, American/English, middle class, 30-50 year old home cooks who are not familiar with Asian cuisine, have never set foot in an Asian grocery, nor would know what to buy. In those cases it makes sense that his recipes consist of easy to find ingredients that you can dig up aat your local supermarket. Its definitely NOT authentic...but i at least understand it. However, the hell is he thinking with this mac and cheese? That's a normal American dish....why make these drastic changes?

Honestly, instead of adding peas into the dish, Jamie could have made a salad if he really wanted to make the meal a little healthier. But he already added mango chutney so there was no way saving it by the end… and hey James, it was the first time I heard you curse on screen!

I didnt like the look of Barbaras omlet...I am sure is more culinarily correct but its lack of color was a turn off, even though it had the herbs it just looked pale and bland, for me personally I would prefer something between Lorenzo and Barbara's offerings...

Since he's British, when he said "Cheddar" he may have meant the real thing from Somerset rather than other cheeses made in that style elsewhere which, as you note, vary wildly in quality.

Its so rediculous that the amount of chutney he added didnt do anything but make the mac and cheese even more sweet with the caramalised onions. Then if you take his advice and you add peas and make it more sweet 😂

James... How much of a masochist are you to keep on watching Jamie Oliver? I... I... I do not, in any way, have your expertise, your knowledge etc.... But bloody f...orking Christ... WHYYYYY?! Btw, you talked about the 4 different stages of Bechamel. I would really like to know when to use which of them, for what dish and what flavor preference. I personally would go for the 3rd, but... Tastes differ. Might be interesting. And something else... I loooove making beef filet wraped in bacon on a whisky-honey sauce with Tagliatelle. Yes, Whisky. Tried Jack Daniel's (works), but do prefer Kilbeggan (already has the sweet- honey-ish taste). My question would be... What meats can you use, except beef filet? Lamp racks? Chicken? I personally would love to experiment (and I might), IF I had the ressources... Btw. "Guga Foods" and "Sous Vide Everything" are very nice channels too! Most of the time... When it does not include Nutella.

Hint: NEVER.. Ever... Use smoked Black Forest ham for the beef filet. Ever. Too touch. Nice saltiness though.

Not to defend Jamie, but I do weird things like add Flamin' Hot Cheetos corn chips (crunchy), or Bugle chips, or Fritos, to my soups or mac and cheese, they add texture (a good crunch) and flavor :).

Onions, mango chutney and Worcestershire sauce. Just no! Mustard or horseradish to give it a bit of spice is ok. I like adding breadcrumbs to the top before it goes in the oven, can't do the bacon bit because my family is vegetarian. (I'm not)

Well technically I put ketchup on ice cream and eat mac and cheese with ketchup. Some people just have some specific tastes. I feel like Jamie is likely someone who has tastes that people will find strange but they enjoy the taste anyways.
