Great discussion. Do you offset beams DOWN to compensate for joist shrinkage? This is nuts with all the different joists, but that is what we did in commercial projects that always had flush beams and dimensional lumber joists.

I shoot (ramset) whenever I can all my hangers Wood and Metal 1.5mm+ studs into steel col. and I beams where sometimes the flanges and web are thicker than a half inch, but the gun shoots the pins/studs/fasterners w/o an issue, labor savings and strength are compelling. Have you ever tried using a gun for the steel beams? That is a complicated material mix what a nice job. Super smart tip leaving columns height adjustable until siding and floors are installed grout must be messy unless mixed very thick/stiff maybe he uses a joint compound bazooka for grout install. Ray

Where is the septic for all of that? That would never fly in the USA. They would never let you build that big or that close to the water. Crazy build. I think they over-engineered that build.

Hand kiss from the lips,,,, just perfection.only 3 things I would suggest. Bring the steel fabrication in house, ask the engineer to narrow the steel to I stock Square stock & flat stock Then have the steel fabricator stay 3 days ahead of you on site.and can do daily fabs. 2 - go to 1 inch steel concrete thread rods with jam nuts. 3 - Jackass sawhorse in 10 foot by 3/16 steel 36 tall. Again, hand kiss from the mouth, just perfection.

I paused to comment he saying they nail blocks on top of their joist that are going into hangers so the tops all set flush and then they put the hangers in after the fact is that what's going on?

Could you start out the video, explaining what architecture type this structure is? This tells me where “0” is and where you are going. Is it a “craftsman “ - ok I know where you are going. There are over 57 architectural designs, please start from”0”. Is it , Victorian? Then I know where you are going. Does this guy know how to work with steel & wood to span? Am excited, to learn something new, having worked on most Jekyll Island cottages from the late 1800’s Good luck. And have at it.

The “third” cost,? of this build is how much to insure it VS morgage payment? Per year? I am running out of answers on that one. And F you KZbin 404, I beat you.
