I love you used an open tuning as an introduction. I've had the same idea as a great way to introduce people to playing in a way where they can have fun making good sounding stuff right away. Just hey, strum open, hold here, hold here and look! You're already playing a huge chunk of all popular music! Wanna slide around or pick individual notes? It's gonna sound great. I wish more people would do that, it's a great way to potentially introduce so many basic concepts in any order that the student could want or handle while getting to have fun actually making music.
@daveprice59113 жыл бұрын
I feel like the first step to teaching any instrument is teaching the easiest thing that is genuinely fun to do. On piano that'll be having someone fuck around with the black keys, on guitar open tuning. It's just a smooth way to encourage improvisation and creativity while also teaching techniques like proper strumming, barré or palm muting

More of these kinds of videos please! Pro Musician vs. Pro Chef, Pro Musician vs. Pro Artist (painting, drawing, sculpting, etc.), Pro Musician vs. Pro Athlete, that sort of thing. You show them music, they show you their profession. This one is so fun to watch, and as a musician, it really brings me great joy seeing someone pick up and learn to play an instrument (or at least have fun messing around) just like Rob showed Aaron here. You could see how happy it made Rob whenever everything just easily clicked with Aaron, and Aaron was very clearly having a fantastic time too, and maybe even caught the music bug and will continue his journey in music lol. It is just so awesome to see someone "get" it and realize how much damn fun it is to play music with other people, and why we love doing it so, so much. There really isn't any other feeling in the world like it. I still remember the sheer euphoria that rushed over me as my buddies and I were able to actually learn a song as a band for the very first time. I couldn't help but laugh and smile the whole time like "holy shit, we're making music right now!" It really feels like you're conjuring up magic. Such an awesome experience, and so cool to watch someone else kinda get hit by that music high for the first time too. There's nothing else like it.

One of my buddies was into hockey but he got too many concussions and had to give it up. I was in a band at the time and handed him a bass and he picked it up really fast and locked into the drums real good. I think that's an excellent observation.

I have skated and made music for the last 20 years and I think for me the big thing they have in common is that you can do them both alone and with people. Like it doesn’t really matter what head space you are in, you can always find a way to fit them into your life

If Aaron and Rob ever made a full part i'd be so stoked. That montage at the end was such a good way to end the video!

13:19 Jaws's already got better right wrist motion than most beginners.

this is sick, as a skateboarder and a guitar player this is the best of both worlds. really sick to see jaws pick up the 8 string and get going as quick as he did. also super sick seeing rob hop on the board and just learn as much as he did. incredible video!

This video was great, I love how the two learning experiences are overlaid, A series where you teach people guitar and people teach you their skills would be really cool. Wouldn't be surprised if this ended up in tom scott's newsletter

Lifelong musician here. I recently discovered your channel, Rob and I've rarely come across anything that captures the joy music brings better than videos like this one. Got me a bit choked up even. Thanks and I look forward to watching more.

Starting out on an 8-string is also one of my goals, what a coincidence.

this is honestly the most entertaining and fantastic video I've seen on KZbin this year not even going to lie.

I’d never been fond of skating (Im clumsy and too cowardly to try anything that involves active sports) but just seeing you rock around with Jaws was so heartwarming! I see why people love doing this now, I’m even curious to finally try it out myself 😂 Not to mention the music you made, especially the tribute at the end. It was so fascinating to watch you go as it played. Beautifully played and wonderfully edited!

Rob seemed like a natural on a board, to the point that at first I wasn't sure I believed it was his first time 🤣 would be cool to see rollerblading make a comeback, you don't see many bladers these days

I'm surprised KZbin has not censored this video, since it perpetuates an obvious lie.

@@TheAnimeist what?

@@Nobody-gm3xq I am mocking KZbin's selective censorship (and lack thereof) of content that is not true. What is not true is what happens at 2:07 "I am a stranger to the board". Pleas note, Rob is a cool dude, with many talents. My comment was not directed as a negative toward him, but toward KZbin actions.

Rob clearly has spent time learning how to ollie in the past. He already had hours, if not days of experience doing ollies on a skateboard.
@rahhmennoodles3383 жыл бұрын
@@TheAnimeist I learned to ollie like 10 years ago. Haven't picked up a board since then. I would also consider myself a "stranger to the board". I don't think there was anything disingenuous or dishonest whatsoever about anything in this video. That's like saying Jaws is a liar for saying he doesn't know anything about instruments because he plays the jaw harp. Also, since when was lying against KZbin policy? Hyperbole is now something we should be censoring?

So cool. This video filled me so much nostalgia. Both as a 🎶 musician 🎵 and as a skater 🛹 and huge fan of Jaws! Epico! Giving him an 8 string was genius. Somehow almost teared up when Aaron was so cool with those kids, the autographs and photos. Those kids will never forget that.

kept me in tears throughout the whole video - just love when people can be sweet to one another. A true tribute to the life of Jonas.

What a brilliant video, Rob! ❤️ Absolutely loved the content, editing and the wholesome energy. It was soooo cool to see you both skating around so well too. And especially the 6 minute chug song was hilarious 😂 Also, RIP Jonas, i was shocked to hear of his passing.

Combining two of my favorite things in this video, but then seeing you can aggressive skate like a mad man added a third to the the list. I love everything about this, thank you Rob.

Yo I'm halfway through the video, and I gotta say this is probably my favorite project of yours, and that's saying a lot. This was so wholesome and had such a good message, dude. Thanks for all you do Rob! And sick board skills.

Lovely video, lovely channel! Man, what you do for blading indirectly and directly is so amazing! Didn´t know you could skate that good! To be honest, I didn´t know your channel at all! Great to see your interaction with the Braille guys! Big big holla from Brazil, from a now subscriber and admirer! Keep up the excellent work and the amazing vibe! You´re the man Rob! Cheers!
