For Gholdengo I found it neat to give it a Covert Cloak. You're not only unaffected by any status moves, you're now also unaffected by secondary effects from moves - so no more unlucky freezes, burns, flinching, confusion, etc.
@MrCrowley2474 Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure it's basically impossible to give a Covert Cloak Gholdengo a status condition. Can't be statused directly with moves like will o'wisp or thunder wave because of Good as Gold; Covert Cloak prevents random statuses from moves like thunderbolt and flamethrower; he can't be poisoned by Toxic Spikes because he's steel; and he won't trigger static, flame body, or effect spore because he's a special attacker. Covert Cloak event prevents the 1/4 damage from salt cure.

@@MrCrowley2474 The only way to status a Covert Cloak Gholdengo would be to use a Pokemon with an ability that allows them to ignore the opponent's abilities. I feel like one of the reasons Psychic types used to be so good is that, aside from their own type, they were almost always blessed with some of the best type coverage in the game. Most psychic types used to have access to either the elemental punches, or at least 2 out of the Thunderbolt, Flamerthrower, Ice Beam TM trio, as well as some combination of Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Dark Pulse, Energy Ball or Magical Leaf and Dazzling Gleam, so even if their Stab didnt get the job done, theyd get something else that would. Now, to use Espathra as an example, because I do like it, it gets barely any of those, and despite its cool ability and solid Spatk, something like half its learnset are physical moves and its signature move is built specifically to be better when you dont OHKO your opponent, meaning the frail bird will have to take at least some hits for it to be worthwhile.
@LoudWaffle2 жыл бұрын
Poison types also used to be extremely common in enemy battles since they were the staples of enemy teams, especially Team Rocket across two generations. Enemy quality used to be way worse so any psychic-type with a decent STAB attack would instantly be a viable sweeper for most of the game. The fact that they get such great coverage also helped a lot. But not only has enemy quality/diversity gotten a lot better in average fights, but your other options have also gotten a lot better in the several recent gens.

IIRC, the older tier lists were done live on Twitch and he just cut them from the Twitch VODs into videos thats why they seemed a bit long and all over the place

Love Tinkaton and dundunsparce. In my casual run those two and skeledirge where my go to team to tackle anything. Sent Dundunsparce out and let it setup with agility and a coil if its bulk allows it to go further. Then Baton pass to either of the previous two depending on the matchup. Just swept everything. I still had Toxapex to stall, gardevoir with choice specs and Tauros with choice scarf but those three rarely had to come into play.

I'm suprised he didn't bring up Cyclizar's ability, Regenerator. When you use Shed Tail and switch out, Cyclizar heals itself for most of the hp it lost setting up the substitute. So it pretty easy and viable to set up more than one substitute in a fight in a hardcore nuzlocke

For me quaquavel is good mon, aqua step and moxie are a deadly combo being able to raise you speed and attack in one go is pretty good For palafin is good but to obtain you need a friend or another person so i don't know if in nuzlocke it should count
@LonesomeDevil2 жыл бұрын
Moxie definitely can't count either, unfortunately, since it's impossible to give your starter its hidden ability until the post-game.
@ShiningJudgment6662 жыл бұрын
@@LonesomeDevil It's fine enough without it. Aqua Step is honestly well built for it and it has access to some powerful moves in STAB Close Combat and Brave Bird (the latter can be a bit risky though and you have to watch out on the stat drops from Close Combat). There's also Ice Spinner. Regarding Palafin, it depends on your ruleset but I think either way is acceptable.
@LonesomeDevil2 жыл бұрын
@@ShiningJudgment666 Oh, I never meant to imply it's not good without Moxie. After all, I'm part of the minority who picked Quaxly for their first playthrough and I got to see it make a complete mockery of the final Arvel fight, which can usually be fairly difficult otherwise. It's just that you can't count Moxie as a point in its favor in the context of a nuzlocke, that's all I meant.
@ShiningJudgment6662 жыл бұрын
@@LonesomeDevil Honestly all the starters are really good this generation. It's only real issue is competition from other good Water types that are available. There aren't as many good Grass or Fire types.

I agree with everything aside from Maushold, yes it doesn’t get pop bomb till really late in the game, but it still essentially gets dragon dance in tidy up and can have access to strong normal moves like facade, and once you get pop bomb you can sweeps large portion of battles, I’d personally put it in B tier, but I do understand the reasoning, very based aside.
@noxtide70432 жыл бұрын
Imo I feel like Maushold is a lot better in double battles. Friend guard with moves like follow me, tidy up, encore, etc, with good speed make it such a good team player. Not to mention it gets Super Fang really early so it can cripple bulky mons
@damianblu2 жыл бұрын
Nothing dudunsparce does well? It’s a paraflinch monster with serene grace. Dragon Rush plus STAB body slam, with added benefit of access to coil and roost (if playing itemless). It’s even a decent bulky baton passer to physical attackers or Stored Power users due to coil. Two coils puts you at +6, making stored power a base 140 power psychic (usually also stab) move that also comes with a good defense boost for survivability on the switch. And by extension, it being a thing makes the same build on dunsparce pretty viable for an eviolite build if you’re using it below the evolution level.
