Monsters always has the best bits. Borat Grumpig never fails to make my sides implode on themselves despite me finding the actual Borat movies’ humor hit or miss for me. And while Pete’s cutaway gags were a little intrusive sometimes, it culminated so perfectly with Pete’s heel-face turn after the final party wipe, and Monsters didn’t undercut Pete’s character growth with a gag, he was completely serious from that point forward while staying in character, which I think deserves a lot more credit than it gets from Friendlocke fans. Like, Monsters is a really talented improviser. On a side note about Monsters, this is two Friendlocke’s that Monsters has managed to be in the Hall of Fame for despite being probably the least experienced with Pokémon in the group. And I’m sure Onee is super salty that she’s never managed it once considering how well versed in Pokémon she seems to be.

I think there may have also been a hidden challenge to this type of nuzlocke that I just thought about.. his team comp couldn't just be whoever he wanted at whenever he wanted because if certain people had things to do, like as some people have lives and all that... he couldn't exactly have them on the team right? so that may have been the reason his team comp was so wonky? I could be wrong of course but it's still something to think about
@anthonynguyen1289
@anthonynguyen1289 2 жыл бұрын
I think it was mostly him just not wanting to box his friends for too long, since they were all actively waiting in a separate call for the time they would be summoned. So it was more so an anxiety thing of not wanting to be an ass making your friends sit in call waiting for a turn. There were times he couldn't use people or had to box them early due to irl stuff, but this wasn't the main cause. These streams ran for 3+ hours and sometimes hit 6 hours, so it makes sense that most of them were prepared to be on for long.

*Pauses the video: I'd argue Skuntank's a solid encounter. While I prefer Drapion or Alolan Muk, it's still got a solid defensive typing and can hit most things for at least neutral damage with STAB. Stench is actually pretty good for the flinch chance, Aftermath could be decent if you're forced to sack it and it has a nice range of coverage from the moves it can learn.
@athath2010
@athath2010 2 жыл бұрын
So, story time (there's a "skip wall of text" point later down if you don't wanna read all of this, and a summary of the plan is in a reply to this comment). [SPOILERS] 44:21 After that Ghetsis loss happened live and the stream ended (with the announcement that a rematch stream would occur later), I did some research. I figured that if I could come up with a surefire plan to get Salty through the Ghetsis fight with the remaining team members he had, that'd take some stress off of his shoulders (he looked VERY stressed about the pressure of the Friendlocke), ensure a happy ending, and perhaps inflate my own ego a bit. I didn't want to be like the other backseat gamers, though- I wanted to distinguish myself by creating a plan that was SURE to work, that didn't assume that anything was "probably" the case. So after the stream, I pumped Salty's stream bot for information. Even though chat was on 1 minute slowmode, I used the bot's commands to collect information about all of the exact IVs, EVs, natures, levels, and movesets of the remaining six team members, compiling that information into an image that contained all of their stat blocks. I then dug up the enemy trainer data that speedrunners of Pokemon Black had compiled for their runs, giving me the exact IVs, EVs, levels, and, most importantly, natures, for Ghetsis's team. Using these and Pokemon Showdown's gen 5 damage calculator, I was able to determine exactly how much damage any move from either side would do, and use that to simulate possible fight plans. And from there, I began planning. As I was running these calculations, however, I realized something extraordinary. By complete coincidence, each of Ghetsis's 'mons could be consistently dealt with with ease by a different member of Salty's remaining team. And because Salty was playing on switch mode instead of set mode (he can switch 'mons for free after each kill), this gave rise to an opportunity. What if, instead of merely ensuring that the fight was won, I instead ensured that EACH member of Salty's team of ""rejects"" could 1v1 and defeat a member of Ghetsis's team? No longer would Hannah or Pastey feel useless! Everyone could contribute! The poetry, it rhymes! And so, over the next ~9 hours, I compiled a ~15 page long Google document: "How to Have Each Member of the Black Friendlocke’s Final Party 1v1 a Member of Ghetsis’s Team and Win at Just Level 56: A Guide". Everything had worked out perfectly. No unusual overleveling or x-item usage was necessary, there were some strats that were only possible due to unique quirks of Salty's party (natures and the like) and journey so far (like his item randomizer breaking halfway through the game), and all of the strats were either 100% consistent or had backup strats that would still win Salty the fight with near-100% consistency. I had screenshots of damage calcs for each section, haha funny jokes and images, explanations as to why X works but Y wouldn't, the works. I want to link it so badly, but I think KZbin will bury my comment if I do, so I'll just summarize it in a reply. I had assembled the document, but it would be useless if it wasn't able to be seen. Since Salty was taking a break from Twitter, I instead sent the plan to one of the other members on the team (I forget who). After receiving no response, I tried submitting it to the art account as a "work of literature". Still no response. In hindsight, I was probably treated as a bot by Twitter due to dm'ing links to people with a Twitter account with like two posts on it, but at the time, I thought I had been ignored. I didn't want to press much further though, since I feared that that'd be pretty stalker-ish. **[skip wall of text]** And so, the day of the final stream came around. The moment I saw the team, I knew that Salty was not going to follow my guide, which disappointed me immensely. After he issued his callout about backseating near the start of the rematch stream, though, I realized something: I had had fun making my step by step plan, and I don't regret making it at all, but it was probably for the best that Salty never saw it (or that if he did see it, that he wouldn't follow it). I think that following someone else's guide would've taken away from that victory and made it less exciting behind the scenes. At the end of the day, the Friendlocke was about the Pokemon (er, Salty's friends) making the most of the decisions, not Salty or some randos from chat, and having everyone follow a coordinated guide was kind of the antithesis of that. Salty and co. didn't NEED my backseating to make a good conclusion to this story, and I'm glad that they were able to win this fight without it (although I'm sure they'd have found a good way to spin the ending even if they had lost/gotten a downer ending).

The only it move it has that can even affect her is Shadow Ball, which does well under 20% of Sara's max HP due to her resistance to it. The fight is basically just spam Night Slash and win, with healing items being poppable if needed. Amusingly, Cofagrigus's Mummy ability would temporarily suppress Sara's Stench ability, which would've been a cute moment for her (it happened in the actual fight too, although I don't remember if anyone noticed). Pastey vs. Seismitoad: An Energy ball from Pastey is guaranteed to outspeed and OHKO Seismitoad... but ONLY if Pastey is holding an Expert Belt (or a damage multiplying item of equal or greater strength). The 'mon who's been move-screwed this whole game finally gets to use the one good move they did have access to to dunk on the 'mon who finished off the A-team. Poetry! Pete Ness vs. Eelektross: Energy Ball -> Energy Ball -> Moomoo Milk -> Repeat. Pop a hyper potion and start from the beginning if Pete gets crit. Pete can even win this fight with consistency while holding an Amulet Coin, which would've been funny. Hannah vs Bisharp: With the 1.5x power boost from Hustle, a 1.3x Life Orb boost, AND a 4x effectiveness multiplier, Brick Break just BARELY OHKOs Bisharp, and Hannah thankfully outspeeds Bisharp. However, Hustle gives Brick Break a 20% chance to whiff, which would result in Hannah's instant OHKO'ing... unless Bisharp ALSO whiffs its Stone Edge, which should be the only move it'll see a kill with if Hannah is at full health. Thus, IIRC, the near-optimal play was to Substitute -> Brick Break repeatedly while praying. Fortunately, even if Hannah missed and got owned, Crustle had a 100% consistent strat for dunking on Bisharp via the copious usage of healing items (heal until it runs out of all 5 of its Stone Edge PP, then alternate healing and attacking, healing twice in a row if you get crit on a heal turn). Tracey vs. Bouffalant: Cotton Guard (a move that gives +3 def) from a move tutor turns Bouffalant into Flats the Flounder, with Substitute preventing it from KO'ing with a lucky crit. If Bouffalant crits a head smash on turn 1, Tracey can die, but otherwise, they'll be too fluffy/squeaky to die. Of course, the Fowwest vs. Bouffalant backup strat exists (gotta play around the crit) and is pretty similar to the Bisharp one. Fowwest vs. Hydreigon: Hydreigon was one of the reasons why I made my guide. It has a +speed nature, meaning that Salty's Twitch bot would've actually LIED to him (and everyone in chat) about its speed. It's scarily fast, and it hits like an absolute truck. Fortunately, Fowwest has an absolutely busted singleplayer ability: Sturdy. By learning Shell Smash from a move tutor, they can Shell Smash turn 1, avoid being OHKO'd by crit Surf, and one-shot Hydreigon with X-Scissor. Interestingly, due to its +Speed nature Ghetsis's Hydreigon is actually fast enough to outspeed Fowwest AFTER A SHELL SMASH unless Fowwest is level 56+, even though Fowwest ALSO has a +Speed nature (which was VERY fortunate). At the time I initially wrote the guide, I had recommended a Rocky Helmet for Fowwest for backup strat purposes, but thinking about it a bit more, it isn't actually needed for those backup strats. A Rawst Berry (NOT a Lum Berry, since the Bouffalant backup strat could've proc'd it early) would've been optimal, I believe, to avoid the possibility of Fire Blast chosen+hit+crit+burn (all on one move) being able to kill through Sturdy. If Fowwest isn't at full health for the Hydreigon fight due to a backup strat, then Salty would've needed to spam heal until Hydreigon missed a coverage move or ran out of PP... or sac a team member or two to get a turn to heal Fowwest with, which would've made for some nice drama.

the thing i love so much about the friendlocke is how its not played ike a serious nuzlocke. the way salty describes it as a mix of pokemon and d&d is so on point, and in particular its like a d&d campaign with a focus on rp rather than powergaming which imo makes it even more entertaining. the juxtaposition between that and your genuinely educational advice makes these reaction vids so great and so much fun! i cant wait for you to do another when season 3 eventually happens! also god i love the limited 3d they used for this game. its so charming

Another benefit of the "sac another 'mon to heal Lopunny" play would've been that the speed drop would be cleared- even if you didn't get a healing item off, Lopunny would still be able to move before 'drill and KO it.

I think it's a bit understated how RIDICULOUS Kringo was in this run. He had Sheer Force after evolving, and the item randomization (that broke and reverted to vanilla item locations partway through the run) let Salty get an early Life Orb and early Earthquake. Life Orb's recoil damage, but not its power boost, is negated if Sheer Force's effect is applied to a move (but does not on its own qualify a move for the Sheer Force boost). Fire Punch and Flare Blitz both have a % chance to burn the 'mons you use them on, so Sheer Force applies to them. Fire Punch's effective base power was 75 (base) * 1.5 (STAB) * 1.3 (Life Orb) * 1.3 (Sheer Force) = approx. 190, and Flare Blitz's effective base power was approximately **304**. I forget whether or not Kringo ended up using Flare Blitz, but still, Fire Punch alone was enough to one-shot basically everything he encountered.

Fun fact: if Salty's Giratina had the minimum IV's for 217 HP (14 HP IV's), 0 SpDef IV's, a -SpDef nature, and at 193 HP; and if Hydreigon had a +SpAtk nature; there was exactly *one* non-crit Dragon Pulse roll that would kill Giratina, and it got it, lmfao Edit: looks like I'm wrong and it was most likely just a crit (with Hydreigon actually having a +Speed nature). Whoopsie doodle!
@TheCR155

That can't be what happened, since Ghetsis's Hydreigon has a Timid nature. I'm pretty sure the hit was a crit, since they skip over that part of the text. Much more likely as well.

@@ThePyroPM I did some tests, it seems to consistently have a speed higher than 127. Tbf, I don't know that it's Timid specifically, but I think Gen V is the first generation where they give the trainer pokemon actively beneficial natures, so Timid would make sense. Boss trainers have always had fixed natures, but in Gen III and IV the nature isn't necessarily a useful one (eg Cynthia's Garchomp is always Quirky, Crasher Wake's Gyarados is always Lax, etc, there's a full data dump for Platinum on pastebin so we know these ones for sure).
@ThePyroPM
@ThePyroPM 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheCR155 I see, that makes sense. Watching back it does just cut straight from the damage dealt to the text of Giratina fainting, so it probably was a crit if Hydreigon is +Speed. I guess I just find it a bit odd that Salty and co didn't react to it being a crit, lol

Skunktank is a great encounter due to a single type weakness, solid move coverage and enough bulk to survive in the right scenarios. Obviously gets wrecked against ground types or mons with good ground coverage but if it's coming down to that play you're already in a world of trouble.

Skuntank's a good encounter. Bulky, and its only weakness is Ground. The only thing that gives me pause is I remember Stunky not getting good moves for the longest time? I'm not sure how that carries over to a low-level Skuntank. Regardless, it'll get moves eventually, and take hits until then.

Skuntank is a good encounter because it has a single weakness-ground which while common means that it is a fairly safe switch in when you know that a neutral or resisted hit won’t KO allowing for easier pivoting. It also has decent bulk and coverage moves.
