As a long-time Queen fan, I remember being completely blown away as an 11-year-old kid by Queen's original when it was first released. I just discovered Pentatonix during the pandemic, and when I found out they had done a Bohemian Rhapsody cover, I was VERY skeptical. But when I saw the video for the first time a few months ago, I was COMPLETELY (and very happily) blown away again! I've probably watched it 100 times since then and have continued to be completely mind-blown every time. I later found out that right after this was first released, Brian May himself shared it on every one of his social media platforms. What better confirmation, huh? I have a feeling that Freddie would have absolutely LOVED this!

Hi Barry! You should watch the “making of” video of them filming this song. Not as a reaction but just for your enjoyment. We saw Pentatonix in Melbourne in February and they were absolutely amazing. We heard them sing this and when we left the venue we heard Queen sing it (who were playing at a venue across the road). Once in a lifetime. I love, love love Pentatonix.

I am an old Motown girl. Never bothered with Queen. Had only heard OF Bohemian Rhapsody. My first hearing was by PTX. At first not a fan of the song, but PTX just drew me in. Can't get away from them.

Sweet…I have never heard Bohemian Rhapsody the original but PTX version is so good. Love how they harmonize. If music be the food of love, play on. Getting in my bit of Barry for the day BB. PTX fans started asking for this cover when the group first formed. They mentioned in interviews that they wouldn't do this cover until they felt they could do it justice. They waited years before they felt they'd matured musically enough to finally tackle this.

Okay, time for the infamous, interactive Terri comment. You are doing great with the word “Bohemian” I cannot say it either, which is why I cheat and call this song BoRhap? My southern accent can butcher the best words out there! Okay so first harmonies GORGEOUS! And Kevin I see you in there with the 3 in the back, yes, I do! As I understand the original, Freddie did that first bit alone, layering his own harmonies, with the rest of the band coming in with their harmonies at “open your eyes” which is actually when you start to hear those lower parts as Avi comes in with PTX. And again, panning the parts to your separate headphones, another thing Queen did, even at that time. The detail breakdown of the original PTX did on this is just so great! Gosh Avi and that Bass, holding the note? And Mitch with his part, so tender and soft. The beatbox drums on this are OUTSTANDING! Okay, Brian May’s “electric guitar” solo part with Mitch’s voice is so good and again, the attention to detail? “Operatic” section is brilliant with the flashlights and then Scott in the middle of the couch back and forth. And KEVIN and that high Go part on the go go go go, brilliant. He surprises me every time with his sweet high notes? And again with Mitch and that one high note before the “rock” section, it is a must, it is THAT well known. Scott comes climbing over that couch, I would have fallen flat on my face? 😂 they would have been frustrated with me, take 2000 because Terri face plants AGAIN. 😂 And the drums again, so necessary for that rock section. Beautiful slow down. This is a random thought but you can actually see Scott, Mitch and Kirsten on a couch just like that when they were growing up in Texas? And that wind! I mean come on, it is brilliant! Yes, the casual look works and they do look fantastic. I am not sure I could have handled Freddie’s look and his white one piece costume thing? 😂 This song is dramatic, theatrical and they also did that very well, but without really trying, just in simple ways. Actually using their voices to create the drama? Oh sing Barry, it is allowed in the review, right? I am singing (badly) so why shouldn’t you sing (goodly? Right, right that isn’t a word but you get it, yeah?) Forget it, I haven’t been away from this song for years, no letting go! Kirsten is just so lovely! YES, Barry, you need energy in the rock section and they give us that for real! Thank you, you finally sing! It IS perfection on perfection. OUTSTANDING!! T ❤️

Great review Terri! This performance works so well and if a real Queen fan gives it the thumbs up, then that’s the best acknowledgment of a job well done, that you could ever ask for as a performer. I enjoyed it so much I even broke my own rule right at the end a threw in a little harmony. It was as if I could hear Terri in the future telling me softly with a southern accent to sing.

Bohemian Rhapsody. It's an iconic song. No one could every possibly endeavor to match Queen with this song. And then comes this version by Pentatonix. Listen carefully...is that Mitch impersonating a guitar riff with his voice and a megaphone? Another Pentatonix cover that just transfixes. AMAZING!!

It's just unbelievable to me that a human voice can so perfectly mimic the sound of a drum as is done all through this song! Btw you should sing more, your voice is beautiful. There is nothing as sweet as the sound of an Irish tenor's voice, and yours is on of the best. Keep doing what you do!
