Why should everyone call her Asian Mariah Carey or female Dimash, putting her in the shadows of others. Long before Dimash makes his debut, Sohyang was already in the musical scenes, though not on the commercial scale because international stardom wasn't her interest in the least. Sohyang should be Sohyang in her own rights. It diminishes her by calling those names, even as the intentions are well meaning.

Love the reaction! Yup welcome to the Sohyang world! Where tons say she’s the Queen and Dimash is the King. Sohyang is by far the best to me! Her total package of talent, skills that go well beyond vocals, beautiful background life story, and most of all, what she stands for. She does all her own arrangements. She also has many more songs. Yes, this genre isn't my favourite either but when I stumbled across So Hyang singing Bridge Over Troubled Water I knew I had tripped over a true Super Star! I'm a blues loving rock and roll type but this tiny South Korean woman is in a completely different category altogether. Period! Here's a little biography I put together about her. I hope it informs and inspires you because she is not an ordinary singer or human being at all! *************************** We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself (with the input of her musical assistants), teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and Vietnamese. Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of “You Raise Me Up” before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpbCfWylm82Iqpo She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere! She just turned 43 on April 5, 2021, though in Korean culture she would be 44 because you are deemed to be one year old when you are born. She was about 37 when she sang this version of “Arirang Alone”, their unofficial national anthem based on a 600 year old folk song expressing their desire to reunify north and south: vimeo.com/308253527 After being sick with pneumonia eight times from 2016 through to 2020, and considering giving up singing altogether, she chastised herself and entered a televised singing contest called “King of the Masked Singers” in 2017 and won six consecutive times, which has catapulted her into international fame from the performances being posted on KZbin. Whitney Houston’s former manager saw her on KZbin and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted So Hyang and went to Japan in order to perform eight concerts together at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018. But he left the management of the company to a woman she hated, so she had a fit and lay kicking and screaming on the floor. Thanks Danny for your reaction to this example of a Singer. She arranges the songs herself, she sings, writes songs, teaches singing and writes children fantasy novels. If you want to see how she enriches the western music try listening to "Bridge Over Troubled Water" "You Raise me Up" or "Lean On Me", if you want to see how she enriches them by removing stuff, try "I Will Always Love You" from KoreaBeginAgain show. Her Korean songs or renditions are like her, humble and amazing. Her main performance asset, beyond her voice, is the conveyance of emmotions. I Am A Singer originated from Korea. I believe they has two seasons of it. China bought the franchise, and Dimash competed in China. Sohyang competed in the 2nd season in Korea. I wonder what kind of songs you like since this isn't your kind of music. Sohyang practically sang every style there are in the music world 😅

it's not the season concept..I Am a Singer2 is an independent show...IAAS started out as a corner show of variety shows and became IAAS2 when it to be own program the following year...Same way with Immortal Songs2

By her normal standards this song is tame! I highly recommend Arranging Alone or Bridge Over Troubled Water, these are better examples of her extreme power and control. We her fans would assuredly come back to watch those reactions!

Once you get a chance to hear her normal singing not this layed back (for her) version of Holy Night, then you'll understand our fan devotion of her! Each of these world class vocalists would say that So-hyang belongs in this same group with them!

Danny, TY for your reaction to her she has such a great voice. Another song I'd love you to check out is one involving both "Aurora" & the band "Wardruna", the song is called "Helvegen". This song is a folk song, look more into the songs meaning if you want to because it has a lot of history.
