taking textures for landscapes out of google maps. This my man, this is genius. Along with the method of taking heightmaps out of maps this could be used to generate beatiful realistic terrain so easy. Thanks man!

Oh my god I’ve been searching for a good video covering this with a voice over explanation, I’ve been looking for a couple days. This never popped up until I was watching Epics livestream. Thank you!

Yet another method to draw authentic looking terrains in UE4. I guess I'll have to try this one as it looks pretty easy to build up a custom library using your Google Maps methodology.
@shoiko9 жыл бұрын
FYI you can also do Height selection for texturing in UE4 which is extremely helpful for dynamically texturing other terrains and editing terrain in engine.

yeah i did a material that would read the heights / slopes so only needed a heightmap from world machine really :)
@mynuggets_oz7796 жыл бұрын
i only stopped using mine cause im no pro and when i wanted to paint it wanted to paint only based on the settings ( could by pass making 2 materials for each material or something tho but seemed double the work, or well lots of copy n paste and renaming lol )

nice series man, tyvm. was wondering if you can get a slope mask like that without world machine (i used l3dt and opentopo for my landscape and it's kinda massive and 8192x8192 resolution so unless i've terribly missunderstood things i guess the free world machine resolution wont do :p )

Any chance you can do a tutorial on foliage culling on UDK. By default it culls now on the latest versions of udk4 and no one on the forums can help those that ask how to stop it. Lots of new users would probably want to know as well. PLEASEEEEE! Do it and I'l make an intro video for you in blender ;)

Do you have plans to implement UE4 instead of CryEngine in the next online course?
@Futurepoly9 жыл бұрын
+Luis Miranda We are supporting both. There is much more prerecorded content for CryEngine but I'll also be adding Unreal specific tutorials. Students have the option to create their scene in whichever engine they prefer.

Do you know how to procedurally generate terrain from a given noise?
@mynuggets_oz7796 жыл бұрын
is there a way to make a blueprint in UE4 based on World machine? pretty sure is a few node things same. eg have a material paints based on heights/slopes etc ( same basic to your materials just without having to import grayscales ) so more or less, run the blueprint and BAM have a terrain ( just throw the landscape material on it and auto paints it

Google "satellite images" or something. Actually its better that way, because you can filter the search by for example having keywords such as mountains, or even filter by specific color schemes

Is there any good free/open-source World Machine alternatives?
@Futurepoly9 жыл бұрын
+adaniel2929 I'm not sure but the free version of World Machine has all the functionality it just limits your resolution to 512. You could still do some pretty cool stuff with that resolution especially for learning.

Is there a way to tile the textures without 3D Photoshop?
@alexanderpeoplefox71178 жыл бұрын
There are other free programs that allow you to it. but lets be honest... Everyone either buys the legit Adobe pack or goes to piratebay/kickasstorrents and downloads one cracked. Me... I got my cs5 portable. I highly recommend that. Its free and you don't have to stress about cracks not working.
