Thanks a lot for this tutorial, it may be 2 years old but unlike several others it actually works for me while still being useable by Unreal Engine beginners, so I can now start making serious landscapes.

This is by far the best tutorial on this topic found yet, and watched a ton Linda,Pluralsight,Udemy,Vimeo,KZbin.. The whole splatmap thing is really confusing this seems to be a better way, makes more sense to control the layers each one at a time by thier OWN heightmap. This is a simular workflow to blend materials in max. Also like the material function you showed since can use others materials in landscape. That question seems to come up allot in the forums. Am I correct about these two points? Also where can I donate. This tutorial series deserves contribution!

Great tutorials. I don't know if this is a recent change in UE4, but at 10:36 you can now import the slope map as a raw file and save the photoshop step.

if you want to extend the heightmap outwards how can you keep the same flow on consistency with the current mountains on the border of the existing heightmap

Futurepoly You can drag and drop most things, like I saw you type in the boxes for textures and materials, you can simply drag into them. Dunno if you knew that or not, that simply depends on the workflow I guess.

For me the LandscapeMaster gives an X3004 Error. Texture just doesn't show up

I found a post which had the same problem. They ended up switching their MatLayerBlend_Standard to a MatLayerBlend_Simple. It seems to work for me.

You don't need to switch to the MatLayerBlend_Simple. It doesn't actually work the say way. But if you look at the HeightLerp you have two choices. 1) you can run off the Lerp Alpha No Contrast pin the MatLayerBlend_Standard Alpha Pin or 2) Create a Constant or ScalarParameter connect it to the contrast pin on the HeightLerp and then connect the Alpha pin to the Alpha pin on the MatLayBlend_Standard pin. Should work find from there.
