Por favor deja de poner @ en los subtitulos del español. Una cosa importante de conocer culturas es respetarlas. So true. I have a German friend and one time we agreed to meet up for a cup of coffee. The hour was set at four p.m. Me as a Mexican I got there like 4:05. I thought not big deal, well I was wrong. She said in a very calm but in a totally brutal way: "I really don't appreciate your Mexican time. It was rude of you to keep me waiting for you 5 minutes straight". A big cultural shock for me, never had faced such honesty.

Hi guys! Around :50 you talk about the language problem. Try to picture this: a young guy from Germany, first time in the US, meets a beautiful lady from Mexico. He speaks no Spanish, she no German, both almost no English. But he has a small German-English dictionary and she has a Spanish-English dictionary. And when you go out on dates there are always napkins on which you can draw pictures. He proposed after two weeks and two weeks after that they got married. That was over 40 years ago and we still have those napkins. So yes, sooner or later you need to learn each other's languages but when there is a spark and the fire is lit.......Love your channel.

100% accurate. My husband thinks he made the first move but there was a lot of discrete flirting from my side before. Something really hard to adapt to was the "lüften". This is when Germans want to let some fresh air in the house by opening the windows when they get up. At the beginning we had some tension because my boyfriend (now husband) would open the window wide even in winter and I would be woken up by a slap of cold air in my face. Now I actually love to do the lüften myself.

I've been talking to a German guy the past 6 months (we met in Italy) and he is definitely brutally honest. I like how direct he is, because I appreciate not beating around the bush or sugarcoating things, but sometimes I could do without some of his honest thoughts. The funny thing is that he was really reserved with everyone-almost "icy"-but he was the one to make the first move, practically professing his love for me one of the first nights we met...(I so thought he was taking me for a spin). But, he also was NOT punctual and that shocked the hell out of me and pissed me off he never came to lectures so that surprised me as well. (I had to help him find an excuse to ask our prof to take the final later). After a while I really didn't think he liked me because he seemed dry and uninterested, but he just really doesn't do small talk. I also realized that he does makes an effort to talk about other things and we talk nearly everyday. We're planning on visiting each other while I'm abroad this summer, but I don't want to get my hopes up about this being a long term thing just because I'm scared of it not working out. (Another thing I'm afraid of is him thinking I'm crazy because I'm kind of a passionate person and he's super calm, but I think he may also like that about me. Idk. hahahah I'm just so in my head about it right now).

Oh, I can totally agree with you on the statement that Germans are completely different when they are outside of Germany! I am Bulgarian who lives in Germany and, to be honest, I do have a big problem in communication with Germans in Germany, BUT they can be very cool and fun when they are on holiday. They open up more that way. Same goes for Germans who lived abroad and have experiences with other cultures! Greetings to both of you, sweet people!
@nataliarevelo4863 жыл бұрын
I think the reason is that people who are willing to travel abroad are different to those who prefer to stay in Germany. As you said, I also felt that my German friends who lived at some point abroad were much more flexible and open. I also realized that if a German person realizes you are a foreigner and they might have to speak English with you they get into a defensive or unhöflich attitude, but then if you speak German to them they get softer and kinder. I think the fear of speaking English freaks them out.

I'm German and made the same experiences with my Mexican/Latin American friends! Keeping promises and being relateable is very important for me - u said but if they like me and if they are close to me it shouldn't bother them to much - for me especially if they like me and are close to me they should keep their promises because by doing it they are respecting my needs and wishes and show me that they care for me... I also went out with Mexican guys and I can totally relate to the club story - Mexicans (at least those I met) were pretty good in flirting and dancing, here in Germany guys either don't flirt at all and are very shy or they behave in a disgusting way, they are annoying and flirt with u in a unrespectful manner... At least I made that experience often times...

I am from LA and one time about five years ago now, I met a German guy on a flight from LA to San Francisco. He’s from Hamburg. We had a great conversation and when he came to LA, I played tour guide for a day. He happened to work for the same company (consulting in Hamburg) that I did in LA. We kept in touch via email, and three years later when I lived in London and visited Hamburg for the first time, he returned the favor and was my tour guide. We kept in touch. Two years after that when I let him know I was going to live in Hamburg for a short time, he helped me sort out public transport, took me out for a welcome dinner and even helped me move from one Airbnb to another. This is one of two almost identical experiences (the other with a German woman, also from Hamburg, whom I met in Cartagena, Colombia). Germans are amazing people 🥰 🇩🇪and they truly are genuine, honest, faithful friends, and are actually very warm once you break through the ice and reserve. 😉

Michelle Not everybody wants to have children, you know.
@parabelle67524 жыл бұрын
@Michelle At first, you just described a woman who totally depends on her husband and I think that is wrong. So basically you say without a man on your side, a woman would not be able to survive. But a woman doesn't have to have children, she can make career and she doesnt have to have a male partner or even any partner. Your imagination of a woman is weak and like a man is necessary, but open your eyes. It's not the choice between relying on your husband or on the government, if you really know the german system you would know that and I don't even know why you are speaking about the german medical care. It makes not sense at all in this context. Just because everybodys praises the german medical care and you don't like germany, so you have to make a pigs ear of it? And this indepence can have a lot of woman all over the world, unfortunately not every woman, but in the most countries no woman, also not in germany a has to depend on her husband.
@airotkiv4 жыл бұрын
@Michelle I'd rather rely on the state than on a man. I'm strong and independent and I don't need anyone to pay for me. That tradition is old and regressive. In my family, my mum earned more than my dad. Women can provide for themselves. And also, in our system, we don't really rely on the state, but on each other. Our medical system is built on solidarity, we all pay and the sum of our insurance fees covers medical fees for everyone. You have a very twisted worldview, soooo backwards.
@airotkiv4 жыл бұрын
@Michelle And in Germany it is illegal to fire a woman because she's pregnant and it's also illegal to ask women if they want to have children. So I don't really know why you're bringing that up. Plus I know so many women that never want to have children.

I am half German and half Mexican. One thing I thought is funny: The part of nakedness. On one hand Mexicans are shy, but once you are in a relationship they make f.e. when camping, light their bf when they need to go pee or poo. THAT was shocking for me. On the other hand f.e. when friends come over the first time I would serve them snacks and drinks. Once they have been more the twice I would offer them to help themselves, as they know where things are. Actually the new generation of Mexicans where shocked of my hospitality that I learned from my mx Mom in the 80s and 90s. Nowadays it is not the same anymore. Oh! In Uni at a break (in Mexico/Guadalajara) we were talking about sex: and they wondered that I would not have sex in university when there was an opportunity (either with a bf, a free, a friend w/special rights etc) or even to cross the street to a hour motel. And I was like: first I come to study and second I don't have the stress of mexican families, to have to use the time when none one is watching. I can take my bf any time just home...even when parents are there. Obviously you'd be descrete...but it also doesn't mean that you always take him to your place to have sex, can just beca sleep-over, movie etc. That was shocking to my mexican co-students. “But if you are open minded, how do you not think and have sex like rabbits all the time“. I even denied having sex with my mx bf, because of his old fashioned mentality on no protection, and if “something happens we get married“. So I told him: no protection, i was brought up on european mentality, so this legs stay closed. Brought me his respect. Btw, when you are invited to a mexican family, ALWAYS at least offer your help like washing dishes after the meal. And don't wonder when Mexicans jump into your kitchen while asking without waiting if you accept or not their help. I had to find a middle way, as just jump into a German kitchen could feel rude to Germans, and to Mexicans when you don't even stand up asking for helping out.

At the beginning I was not used to him being not that open and romantic, he didn´t even put emojis or anything in his texts... now we have sometimes conversations only through GIFs And maybe I´m becoming more german, because I also enter the train exactly where I have to get off. It´s so precise and effective, I love it! Love your videos, I´m suscribing inmediately!

My dad’s originally from Mexico and my mom from Spain (pretty much the same thing dna wise, my dna is 94% spanish. Lol) but even men are emotional. I had to learn to control my emotions, and know not to get hurt. When I find someone I like it’s almost like a marriage for me, I’m like a ride or die but I learned early on that’s not good, because you can be 100% in and the other person will only be half in. I pretty much got rid of it. I’ve become more realistic in what to expect and so far it’s worked. 😂

In the west it’s almost like a rule that us men HAVE to pay. Even “feminists” get angry if you don’t pay. Lol. It’s a pretty big deal over here. We’re very old fashioned in that sense.

MiraMe. Oh, hey. My moms originally from Spain. Lol. Third wave feminists is which. They’re complete hypocrites. I can say there is definitely some that just want equality for all but the hardcore ones have ruined it for them over here. I once was dating one. She was a hardcore feminist but wanted all the gentleman qualifies out of me, and to be treated like a little princess. Incredibly confusing. Some fems down here even like genuinely hate men. So hypocritical and incredibly sickening.

MiraMe. Mm, kind’ve. I’m from the US. My dad’s Mexican which at one point was part of Spain, I took one of those dna things and it said I was 94% spanish and 3.5% Native American. So just a little mixed I guess Lol. Ahh, yes. I’ve heard of machista but not the other one. But yeah, some are incredibly hypocritical over here. Honestly, I actually will do that. They got on my nerves. Lol. I agree with equality for all but I don’t agree with hate. Just seems sickening to me. Thank you! Que tenga buen dia usted tambien! Mucho amor a mis españoles! 🇺🇸🇪🇸🇲🇽

I'm Italian and we perceive Germans as reliable and obsessed with being on time and efficient. More than people like me, from North Italy. I may say waaay to much. But I love punctuality, it means respect. And Germans are respectful in general. About honesty, I don't know... And we perceive Germans as cold, very cold... I've lived in Germany for 6 months and I didn't made any acquaintance (I'm not telling about friendships, because it takes time and I don't make friends so easily, I'm quite shy, just acquaintances).. Like, I could have died, and no one would have known that... It's too much even for me... And is not that people in my city are very friendly. Lucklily, I had an Italian colleague at work. But, whenever I needed help, people were kind to me, especially when I tried to speak German... Germans appreciate your efforts to learn the language and when u do ur best 😊 I actually have a question :is it common, for Germans, to resolve problems, for exemple at work or with ur neighbours, by directly talking to the boss or by going to a lawyer, without talking , before, with the person with them? Just want to know, because I've seen it various times, in Germany, while here is considered disrespectful, especially if the person has no idea that a certain behaviour is not ok (obviously, I'm not talking about illegal behaviours )and may create a lot of problems, while by simply talking, u can solve it without making a fuss... Isn't it against efficiency and a big waste of time 🤷🏻♀️?

@@marieclaire5752 There are quite a few-mostly older-Germans who seek every opportunity to contact the authorities. Makes them feel important, I guess? It is considered rude by most (and a waste of time for everyone involved).

Fun video!! I have a german husband and we have a lockdown schedule at home for lunch, afternoon tea and daily yoga. I actually like abit of a schedule so we have more similarities/The cultural differences between us aren't as great as i was born in London and I've been told I'm very efficient anyway. What I like is that Germans are so honest you know that theres no pretense or fluff. They are reliable and trustworthy. They dont say things they don't mean for the sake of it and I value that transparency. With regard to language learning...agree that its inevitable. I put it off for 3 years after but now that we moved to the german speaking part of Switzerland and it had to happen. By the way, the Germans have nothing on the Swiss. If anything breaks in your flat, they come the next working day and fix it. No excuses just solutions. Love it. Also it's the German trains that are the ones that are late in Switzerland.
