Another hunting clip to help peeps thru lockdown. This will probs be the last as we will be heading out soon to get into the ferals.
It was good fun looking back on some old footage and putting it all together.

@@HuntingwithStu If it was within my abilities I'd have you over in a flash. I've stalked a couple of stags and jeez, it's a fair old hike but the scenery and knowing you've outwitted a beastie that has never known the hand of man in its life is quite amazing. From what I've seen you'd be perfect for hind culls where the objective is to take multiple hinds and their young from groups. I think you'd show a few 'keepers and ghillies a thing or two.

Nice shot at 4:51. That pig was really moving. You should start doing trick shots like that scene from Buster Scruggs (Duel 1). "Let me see here. His heart would be on the left but in the mirror it would be on the right. Of course we is both facing the same way and the gun is upside down so best not to play it too fancy....BANG!" Nice shooting as always Stu.

Stu, were’s your sweet spot (kill zone) on a boar broadside? I’ve shot two boars broadside recently than ran off into brush and I never found. The first one never squealed when hit, the second one did. No blood trail on either. Both 50-60 yard shots with 150 grain 7.62x54r which should be plenty of power. I’m starting to think I either lung shot or spine shot both. Thanks

Head shots are the best as it is all over once you fire. However, the heart shot or even higher anywhere straight into the back of the shoulder is also good. Yes big boars will take a shot even a killing shot and will run 200m then die where you can't find them. A spine shot will drop any animal straight away but often won't kill them either but they wont be going anywhere with a broken spine. You probs hit your boar in the lungs and he would have died within a minute or two but they can go a long way if you don't get the opportunity for a second follow up shot.

Hunting with Stu Thanks for the tips. Gonna try out the kayak soon on the river. Being public hunting area, not sure about the legalities, but I think you have to be on dry land before you shoot any game. Great video sir!

Do you try and catch your brass in between shots? Or doesn't it eject properly sometimes?

Hey Stu - is there any reasoning between when you use a rifle or a shotgun? I would ‘a thought the shotty in the thick scrub and the rifle in the open? Aside from range what makes you pick what? Cheers, Trent.

Mate I often have a rifle and shotty at hand and my decision is often made for me as I might put up pigs in the thick shit and I'm thinking shotty then they run out into the open and if i can stay with them then I still think shotty. I generally only use the rifle when they re getting away from me. Having said that the last couple of charges I used the rifle but the shotty would have been better as they were only a couple of metres away.

Cheers Stu. Makes sense. All I’ve found is the one in your hands is never perfect, but bloody good enough, Better practice my off-hand. It’s not great.

The guns been around longer than that. 91/30 just the most popular of all The models. Guns been around since 1891 for the imperial Russian army, used in 40 wars from then til now. You should get yourself one the 7.62x54R is a great round for all of those nasty boar you guys have.
