My parents built Hanok (korean traditional house) few years back in Korea and it costs about ten million won per pyong (which is about 35 sq ft) - so according to my crude math it comes to about $220 USD per sq ft. Typical hanok style residential houses are 900~1400 sq ft so that would be about $200k ~ 300k USD to build these.

Process efficiency and skillfulness are amazing. There is a lot to learn from videos like these. Here in India, constructions of individual houses are (also) mostly done using brick, mortar, steel and concrete. The process takes several months, uses too much manual labor, and process efficiency is not given the required consideration, resulting in escalated costs and unnecessary hardship for the workers, though the process seems to have improved quite a bit in recent years (use of earth-moving equipments instead of manual labor to dig for the foundation, use of semi-automated rigs for moving bricks and other construction material to the upper floors, etc). Also, the motivation for using more automation is lacking given the abundance of manual labour (and also perhaps societal considerations that prefer employing manual labor in place of automation because it provides jobs to many).
@lchansocal Жыл бұрын
Indian wage is much cheaper comparing with Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and even China. Most of their construction is manipulated using the machine. Many of them are prefabricated in the factory. You are right about employment is taken into consideration. 😊😊

How common are individual single family homes in india? All my friends who come from india always tell me they come from like city high rise type places and apartments built from all concrete & steel.
@sn5953 Жыл бұрын
@@ubacow7109 It depends on individual cities and their population densities - a metropolitan city like Mumbai (Mumbai population density: 28,185 people per square kilometer, or 73,000 people per square mile [1]) which has seen immigration for a very long time (from other places in the country because of better job prospects), high-rise apartments are everywhere and individual family homes are unaffordable here for all but the very wealthy (unless the residential plot of land was bought several decades ago, and got passed down through inheritance). In a city like Bangalore where I'm from, individual residential plots of land were not really very unaffordable until about the year 2000 when IT-led job-market boom led to immigration and rise in median household incomes and the concomitant soaring in the real-estate prices necessitating construction of high-rise apartments (also, many immigrants in the city prefer these apartments for reasons of perceived security). Since 2000, residential land prices in Bangalore have increased and bordering on unaffordable for most, except in the rural-like city outskirts. In Bangalore, most natives still live in individual family homes while living in high-rise apartments has become a trend increasingly since 2000. [1] tinyurl.com/yzmpg8va

That was mesmerising! 😍 They make it look like assembling something from IKEA! I wish we had homes like this (and of this quality) in the US.

Yeah, it is a modular type construction but it is far away from Ikea stuff :). That type of korean tradional home is also quite expensive even in Korea. Rich people do have it for sure.

It’s so beautiful. I hope at least it’s expensive because of the thick wood, the solid materials, the exquisite quality and craftsmanship. Here in the US the rich live in fancy cardboard boxes, all particle board and chicken wire. Gets wet once and ruined. And people like such things and pay hundreds of thousands for them. This is like a temple.

You can find companies in North America that do timber frames

Beautiful!! Absolute dedication to meticulous precision to detail and aesthetics! We should allow about 1000 of these workers to come over to the UK and build the houses we so badly need! One thing is for sure, you will not see a single leaking roof from these guys!! ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

After studying Japanese building for years, I was really thrilled to be able to study Korean post and beam construction. Really unique! This video taught me a lot.

I can imagine that it is very difficult to find the talent that understands this level of detail in another country or culture. You can design anything, however if the workmen have no experience or the appropriate tools, it ain't gonna work. Too often design must be down-graded to match the available tools and skills of the workforce.@@david-ow3nv

Can they build this in Australia? Really lovely home
@R_Ali Жыл бұрын
That’s what I was thinking! I think it’d be much cheaper

I think it’s possible if you have the design and send it over to Korea to have the framing built and shipped back to Australia

Australia and NZ has one of the worlds worst house designs. And they cost like they are made of gold. Poor quality carpenting , poor insulation, poor structural strength.
