To clarify the Kraken vs Crab at the end in text form. With Object Shredder: You 1 shot Crab, however you must be at mid range to kill the rider. Without Object Shredder: You do not 1 shot Crab, but by squid rolling after you can break and hit the rider dealing 60 damage. They then can not escape the followup jump attack. So OS works for midrange and no OS works better for long range. Since at max range with OS, the Crab breaks from the charge and the user can move. Final note is that if the Crab is even slightly low, you can kill it at midrange without OS.

It almost seems like distance affects the interaction between the Crab player and Kraken's active hitbox. Something for the dataminers to figure out.

@@juniperrodley9843 That's what I was thinking as well, or the hitbox rotates with the Kraken in a way where it can hit the crab but not the rider at the start/end of the charge. Regardless, it is very weird.

@@juniperrodley9843 That or crab tank gives the rider some invincibility after getting destroyed. So the charge has to be spaced so it kills the crab and then the player a couple frames after.

@@surprisedazumirill I think Splat 1's maps made up for how much more powerful Kraken was. Splatoon 3 maps have like no where to hide and less obstacles to traverse around. So, if a Kraken sees you have to confront it or run away.

Two more things to note about the Kraken, 1. Since you're technically in swim form you still go through grates and wire railings like the ones on Manta, meaning if you're not careful you could fall through the stage or accidentally dash through a wall 2. And along with being in swim form, if you're using Ninja you can immediately swim away without creating a ripple.

Kraken basically outclasses reefslider while still not being too op. Reefslider needs either a very major buff or a rework, or even change the special altogether.

As a Tenta Brella main, not only does Ink Vac counter it, the canopy also stops the momentum of it. Finally the Tent has SOMETHING

It still has knockback , but now it's less noticeable because it can use the charged attack to become immune to said knockback.

Kraken on the Tower by itself: acts like nobody is on it Kraken on the Tower with non-Kraken teammate(s): acts like your team has control Kraken on the Tower with an enemy: acts like the enemy team has control for as long as that brave soul can survive

From what I saw in the Crab vs Kraken: Kraken's charge seems to be a constantly moving hitbox that may pierce through crab if the charge hits two times, for that to happen you can't be either to close or too far else only one hit of the charge will hit whereas mid range can hit twice after the Crab's i-frames, I guess it's because the endlag of the charge makes it slower but it's still an active hitbox so your displacement is enough to have ut hit too times instead of one

since we now have kraken, CRB is a logical next step but i was thinking what if intensify action increased the speed that jump rng decayed so that 2-3 subs of it was able to give similar jump rng performance to 1 where it decayed fast enough to be reliable and, controllable, instead of just giving it the shooter jumprng curve

That crab kraken thing is probably a hit box thing. From far away the damaging part of the hit box is probably already done before it gets the chance to hit the player, and from too close the hit box probably shows at the front of the kraken before covering the back of the kraken so you are far past them before the hitbox actually covers the rear of the kraken, that or the start of the dash is faster than the mid part of its dash that it just goes through it too fast for the hit box to hit then. Just a guess from someone who has seen his fair share of fight game and monster hunter hit boxes.

about kraken versus crab maybe it isn't "really" a distance thing. i think maybe the numbers are just weirdly calculated and leads to the crab tank always needing three attacks from a kraken (bc object damage). perhaps the dash attack consists of three consecutive hitboxes, meaning if you space it right you just simply hit him three times within the same attack. i am sure this doesnt work if crab is walking towards the kraken. also does this work the same way if the crabs weakpoint is facing you? either way i am sure they will patch this soon.

To explain why the mid range works: At close range, the kraken dash moves too fast and will overshoot the rider after their invulnerability period ends. At mid range, the kraken dash is moving slow enough to not overshoot the rider and kills. At long range, the kraken dash's attack doesn't last long enough to hit the rider after their invulnerability period ends.

I think part of the reason the crab wasn't getting 1shot by kraken at the end was the ramp, maybe the angle made it so that it was just hitting the crab and not the player

I’m starting to see a pattern here with Kraken i don’t like. I cannot tell you how many Tower Control games I’ve lost because someone pops kraken on the tower and spams the jump attack until they win. I feel like this could be fixed by just not letting the Kracken push the tower forward.

While they DID remove kraken super jumps they gave us something much worse. You can use kraken like splashdown mid super jump and it’s a bigger threat to camping a super jump marker than super chump is

My theory for the crab tank shenanigans is that since the animation has the kraken spinning when the hitbox is propped up (when the kraken is side ways), it can reach the inkling/octoling on top of the crab tank because it’s tall enough

I feel while Kraken should keep its invincibility, Splatoon 3 should take a page from, weirdly enough, Xenoblade 3’s book in its Ouroboros Mechanics and make it so that taking damage decreases the duration you can stay in Kraken, and surging does the same thing. That way you can’t be killed in Kraken but attacking it does more to hinder it than just knock back, and being super aggressive with Kraken means you get to do less with it, like Zipcaster.

Maybe whats happening with kraken on crab tank is you deal damage passing through and then damage from the explosion at the end, maybe theres some moment in the middle where the damage ticks over and does another bit of damage if you catch it at the right point in the middle of the dash, idk thats how it kinda feels to me

I figured out Kraken vs. Crab! If you notice, when you charge attack (without squid rolling) with Kraken, it hits twice during the duration of the attack You can even see two flashes when you successfully splat the crab player. If you're too far, only your last hit will land, and if you're too close, only your first hit will land. By being mid-range, both hits will land, causing the crab to break on the first hit and the player to splat on the second.

My theory why kraken vs crab is so wierd is that mid range slows down just enough to keep the kitbox by the player until they fall into it while it is just short enough that the hitbox is still active. From far away, the hitbox disappears before the player can be killed and at short range you move too fast to hit them with the hitbox. Overall, kraken is kind of busted because you can negate any substantial amount of knockback with the charge attack then just one shot them, two shot at worst.

I think that super jumping with Kraken would actually be really op in this game because of the buffed duration. You could jump in for free because you’re invincible and still get a kill with kraken afterwards. Also, it would make super jump markers even more scary because now Super Chump could hide the Kraken jump marker.

the attack animation and the charged attack's hitbox ends as soon as it manages to hit the crab which might be why it can't be done from too far away. and when it's done really close, since I think the rider doesn't immediately go to the ground the moment it's destroyed and instead remains in the air for a few moments the charged attack overshoots it just enough for the crab rider to survive wack shit lmao

OS kraken's initial speed of it's dash is too fast to catch the player as they do the small drop from their crab tank breaking, and the hitbox goes away too soon if you're too far, which is good to know

Casually I’m glad gear doesn’t affect Kraken (except Special Power Up of course) since I’d imagine it’d make it easier to balance and i dont have to feel like im extra-nerfed when using ninja squid or that by using swim speed (which im already gonna be using) all of a sudden my special is randomly super buffed removing super jumps though is unfortunate but does make it more committal I guess

Not being able to hit an ink vac user with Kraken makes zero sense to me. I can excuse the regular jump attacks, but you cannot make a good case against the charge attack. If you get hit head-on by a giant squid, you'll be hurt by that no matter what you have with/on you.

But had the opportunity to face it in tower and clam now, and it's just obsurd, the fact that it actually leaves you invincible is so stupid, don't know why it's not health based like every other rideable special.

If Kraken ends up taking the top spot as the meta special to rival Crab, we could potentially see the rise of Ink Vac as a viable option to counter it. Giving the Jet Squelcher, Big Swig and other weapons with it a niche in tanking the Kraken to protect your teammates instead of letting an Invincible special scare your teammates off of their turf.
