I'm assuming that we are making sure there is actual pressure in the system first before performing this test because the compressor may not be turning because the pressure has dropped due to a leak. I think it would be bad to force the compressor to run if it was out of refrigerant. Maybe I missed that part.

There was a leak that was visible but I think they did all the other stuff for nothing. I just unplugged the AC pressure switch connector and the ac works fine ( will try to get a swtich from a wrecked car as the ac has cost me way too much already )

You might be surprised how cheap a brand new OEM AC pressure switch is on eBay.
@ryans4133 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify how this works the PCM looks to receive a signal from the pressure switch if it doesn’t receive that signal it won’t energize the clutch relay to turn on the compressor. When you hit the AC button that just completes the single to the AC compressor relay to be energized and turn on the compressor. The PCM will also command the cooling fans under the hood to come on full blast when the AC is on

i just found this video this weekend as I am having A/C issues. THANK YOU FOR THE CONTENT! On my car, Toyota Yaris 2007, I tested for continuity on the pressure switch and there was none. Now I wanted to try to put a wire in the connection openings but decided to get a volt reading first. When using the multimeter I get close to a 5v reading and not the 12v reading... Would this affect how the pressure switch works? SHould I still try to put the wire and see if the compressor engages? Thanks!

Hello Paul, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. If we measure a voltage of 12 volts at the terminals of the compressor when the A/C is ON, and that this one does not turn, can I consider that the pressure switches are ok? My DELPHI diagnostic tool mentions no problem with these pressure switches. So I ordered a new compressor.

Our Audi A4 B6 has a 3 pin connector on its pressure sensor mounted on the side of the condenser. Pin 1 voltage measured is 12.2vdc. While on another pin is 11.5vdc. Query pls which pin do we jump together? We're apprehensive jumping the wrong pin because ecu might get damaged. Thanks in advance and congrats for a great tutorial.
@erwinvandixhoorn96689 ай бұрын
Maybe it is too late now, but please be aware there are pressure SWITCHES and pressure SENSORS. A switch works as explained in this video. A sensor works with a PWM signal (pulse width signal), which is a digital signal representing a pressure value. Your ECU translates this value into a airco system pressure (high side). Shorting a connection in a system using a sensor instead of a switch may brick the ECU. Pretty sure your A6 uses a sensor, so please take care!

I'm not seeing any voltage at the connector. What's up with that? Also, if you do have voltage across two of the pins and you try the bypass wire trick, won't that be a direct short and blow a fuse?
@wfidrock3 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was going to comment after seeing this, you are 100% correct! DO NOT just blindly jumper across all the terminals as he suggests in this video because if you jumper the +12V pin (or in some vehicles these days +5V) to the Ground pin you could cause a short circuit of this voltage and blow a fuse... The pin that you measured +12V or +5V (or some other positive voltage) during the first part of the test (and some vehicles may require the key in the 'Run' position to get the voltage) should be excluded from this 'jumpering'. Also, some newer vehicles (like Honda CR-V for example) are going to designs that have a single A/C pressure sensor (instead of a high-side and a low-side sensor) and these have a variable voltage output (3 pins, +5V in, Ground, and signal out) which varies based on pressure. The computer then monitors the voltage out and can compute the A/C line pressure based on the voltage and determine if the pressure is either too high or too low (or Ok) and turn the compressor off/on accordingly. For these systems this 'jumpering' technique does not apply.

As he demonstrated at the start of the video, one pin is hot, the other is ground. Jumping these two could either damage the ECU or blow a fuse.

What would cause the fan to excessively run for long periods, 30min or longer. Seems like the hotter it is outside the worse it is, it almost never shuts off in temps above 80°. In cooler temps below 70° it will run for long periods, but eventually shut off. The fan will also shut off immediately when I turn the AC off. It does all of this no matter if I’m driving or parked.
@gavinconley5621 Жыл бұрын
No matter what your fans are going to run if the A/C is on its pulling air in to go through the condenser to cool the air. It’s normal for the fans to run if the A/C is on
