Teo is the man for stories about the jazz greats. He knows where the skeletons are buried and just intimate knowledge of the personalities and their idiosyncrasies of creating. And he played with them in bands performance, so he knew bebop and every iteration that grew out of it. The greatest editor of performance in jazz production history period.

Thanks also for the music you wrote, Mr. Macero. I've not heard all of it, but the VERY, VERY little I've heard has been fantastic.

I had told Ted Macero, who was producing the record, to lust let the tapes run and get everything we played, told him to get everything and not to be coming in interrupting, asking questions. Just stay in the booth and worry about getting down the sound, is what I told him. And he did, didn't fuck with us once and got down everything, got it down real good. Miles Davis

I had the pleasure of meeting Teo after Miles' "comeback" concert at Lincoln Center in '81. He got to drive the yellow Ferrari home. Miles had already left (or snuck out of..) the building...

I would have loved if Miles would call me and play for 40 minutes over the phone.. These stories are brilliant. .

Can you imagine having to deal with Miles Davis on a regular basis? No way. Macero probably could have had a career as a professional psychiatrist if he had been so inclined.

Does anyone know if any of the music he composed for the "aka cassius clay" documentary ever released?

i have heard Teo Macero was the boyfriend of bi sexual Miles Davis. I have heard it from her former of gf of miles in Paris. But i think this woman was sexually frustrated. Miles was a strong hetero.

I knew Miles well and believe me he was not bi-sexual!
