Why are sites writing the 8700 has longer arm length for industrial and 5550 has shorter arm made for apparel sewing? Also, are the parts like needle plates interchangeable for replacement parts?

I believe they make some 8700 like 8700h in japan. At least mine claims it was made in Japan.
