Lot of great comments already covering what I wanted to say. However, your video and sound quality is great. Also, video editing is perfect with the right things(transitions/GIFs etc.,) at the right time. It's subtle but makes your video lot more interactive. Grateful for your work, Diego 😇👌🏻

Hi Diego! Great video, I really liked that you introduce MECE framework in there as I know some companies in interview are expecting PM to use it for structured answers. I have a doubt, how are Out of control factors mutually exclusive with External factors? And the same case for system factors and internal factors. You're answer would be greatly appreciated, I saw someone else was asking the same in another comment already. Thank you!
@PMDiegoGranados4 ай бұрын
Hi! Great question - in real life multiple things could happen at the same time… a competitor launches something, you released a version that causes issues and a government is banning your product in your country (check the latest on X-Twitter in Brazil) In the interview the goal is to have this structured approach of listing all the possible reasons, so instead of framing it as “all of this could happen simultaneously”. The introduction of MECE is to give you a framework to follow. For example, if an out of control factor like “natural disaster” occurs, an external factor like “competitor launched something in that region” may not necessarily affect your product. Does that make sense?
@maferarroyom4 ай бұрын
@@PMDiegoGranados Hi Diego, thanks for answer! It does make sense, I think at the end of the day is just a framework to help us structure the way we approach root cause analysis.

Great video, thanks! Question: Don't the system factors fall under the category of internal factors? Similarly, out of control can be bucketed into external?
@maferarroyom4 ай бұрын
There's another comment below where he explains the difference between external and out of control factors, basically the first one we can predict or know, like a competitor launching a new product, but we cannot know when will a natural disaster happen. But I still have the same doubt as you, aren't system factors internal factors? and out of control factors external factors? I don't understand how they're mutually exclusive.

thanks for the video. How is External factors different from Out of control factors ?
@PMDiegoGranados2 жыл бұрын
Hi! An external factor is something you have certain degree of control. For example if a competitor announces something, you could quickly respond to it - is something “common”, you expect your competitors to announce things But an out of control like a natural disaster or a change in politics is completely unexpected and your company may or may not have a plan to act on it. These tend to be at a large scale and have a big impact Does this help?
@ISHANCRAZEE2 жыл бұрын

For execution questions at FB/Google, What should we expect? RCA questions or "Define Metrics for ....". Do you have a video for the metrics question?, i don't see it on your channel. I really like the concise high level approach you define.

Thank you for asking, Fahim! For FB/Google you can expect any of the two: Root Cause Analysis (this video) or Metric definition. I don't have one for metrics yet, but definitely something I'll work on! I hope this helps

Steps should be: 1) MECE 2) Issue Tree 3) Hypothesis formation 4) Pareto (80/20) - prioritize 5) Top-down ( or bottom-up) analysis 6) Sensitivity analysis (Scenario analysis) 7) communicate the solution in pyramid principle
