These filters can absolutely be used in daily drivers not just race engines. You can get one of these K&P filters with an internal bypass valve which will open if the filter media gets clogged (street version). The race versions usually don’t have a bypass valve. The K&P filters flow an incredible amount of oil over a paper or synthetic element filter because the stainless filter does not absorb oil. They are easily cleaned with brake parts cleaner and you do NOT have to buy an ultrasonic parts washer. Because of the amazing flow rate of the stainless steel filter element at 35 microns(absolute), you are not going into bypass like a traditional oil filter would at every engine rev. I put one on my LS7 and have been driving and tracking the car for over a year. Not just a race only part. Plus you keep used oil filters out of our landfills and water!

What about on Harleys?

When you say "Overkill" is that just because of the price point going in? I just bought a K&P for my Harley (haven't installed it yet), But what got me was it's extremely high flow rate, and of course the possibility of additional engine cooling. I am just a little suspect of what K&P sacrificed to get that 7X flow rate..... Or is the Surface Area and Porosity of the stainless media just that much better than any paper filter media?
@natez06902 жыл бұрын
The awesome thing is that K&P didn’t sacrifice anything to get 7 times the flow of a paper filter. The stainless steel filter media doesn’t absorb and hold oil.

K&P oil filters are now FAA-PMA Certified for most piston aircraft engines. The price for my Lycoming O-360 is $349. A regular aircraft oil filter is $25-$35. Oil gets changed every 50 hours and at present, I'm flying it ~60-75 hrs/year. So the price break at this point is a little high. Averaging $30/per filter that's 11 filters. If I start to fly more often and pass 100hrs/year I'll probably buy one

Just ran across these, my concern is with the smaller micron what about does this limit the VOLUME of oil getting to where it needs to go as fast as it needs too?

I’m looking at doing one of these on my Indian motorcycle. I tend to run AMSOIL in it now and that’s done a lot of good for flow rate, engine cooling, and reducing the ticking sound that’s notorious for my 1133 motor. I’m curious how much better the flow rate on this would be coupled with AMSOIL. The stuff flows like water compared to the Indian brand 15w-60, but all indications say that it’s doing better. I don’t know, could be chasing my tail

Im using the Hubb filter on both my Harleys-work great. Better oil pressure, less heat and quitter on an old EVO- using Schaefer racing oil 20w50.

I purchased on for 93 Harley Heritage EVO. Saw a lot of comments on another video saying they didn’t filter well and couldn’t get them clean but also saw a lot of comments by motorcyclists that had used them a long time and loved them. I also have a Honda Reflex 250cc scooter and it runs at 6500 rpm most of my riding at 60-70 mph and it only has a fine screen oil filter. These engines will easily go 50,000 if oil is changed regularly around 2500-3000 miles. I think the reusable stainless mesh filters will work fine IMHO. That’s what I’m hoping😂

I was thinking about buying one of these too for my late model Evo. I take it you installed it and like it?
@doug38052 жыл бұрын
@@kennethwise7108 yes. I went to the Concours De Elegance on Amelia Island and met a guy there that was President of Combat Motors that built custom motorcycles. I noticed he had one on his bike he was showing. It was a $100,000+ . He recommended them. I figured if they used them on those high dollar bikes they must work well. I have a Honda Reflex scooter also and it just has a screen filter. It is a 250cc and it will run all day at 65mph and is turning 6500 rpm at that speed. I use Amsoil in it. These scooters will easily go 30 or 40 thousand from all I’ve read. What I’m saying is the Harley is not a high revving engine and with good maintenance and this filter last a long time. DK Customs does a review on it. Im pretty much sold on them.

how would you rate this vs an Amsoil filter?
@Sdpartscenter4 жыл бұрын
We don't have any data to cross-reference between the performance of the K&P vs Amsoil. The benefit to this is it is a stainless steel mesh filter that is reusable.
@richcombs4805 Жыл бұрын
K&P found Amsoil filters to be 3x restrictive to that of a stock paper filter. Amsoil takes a different position on filtration vs bypass than K&P does, where they'd rather filter finer more but then just go to bypass (which to me, sounds odd)....this is why I tried an Amsoil once, realized just how heavy the filter was after 8,000 miles, and decided "why cause flow restriction for filtration that exceeds the need"....excessive filtration is actually not required.
@jimbert503 жыл бұрын
Harley Davidson claims their (paper) oil filters catch 5 micron particles. What percentage of 35 micron particles does this K&P filter catch? I don't know what percentage the HD filter catches.
@natez06902 жыл бұрын
The HD paper filter might catch particles as small as 5 microns but only at a very low efficiency (5%). Like he said in the video, this catches every particle bigger than 35 microns. That’s the absolute rating. All other filter manufacturers will never publish their absolute rating because it would be laughable! Like 300-600 microns!

I find it interesting that no-one talks about filter beta; the efficiency of the filter. You can have a filter with a small micron rating and low beta that has poor overall filtration.

Good sales pitch. I started with a Frantz oil cleaner in 1963. They use good old toilet paper. All I use now is Gulf Coast Motor Guard and the Australian Jackmaster Classic. Never been too concerned about which full flow filter I used as long as it is built strong. None of them clean oil.
