I actually saw one of the aforementioned kits at the local train show earlier. Skipped out because I was more tempted by Conrail power, lol.

The kits were a pretty fun build, though they have a lot of parts. On later ones I substituted Plano photo etched parts for the original roofwalks and crossover platforms. Thanks for watching!

Excellent review Dan. Its nice to see these cars getting some much needed improvements over the years. Its hard to tell from the video, but it also seems like they have used a lower profile head on the screws that hold on the coupler pockets, previous runs had one of the axles rubbing on these screws causing them to squeak while rolling down the track
@DanielCortopassi

I didn't notice any issue with the screws on these cars. Now that you mention it, I do remember having that issue with the older cars. I remember having to make modifications to the coupler pockets (or replace them). One of mine was very squeaky, too. I'll have to revisit that when I get around to putting these cars back on a layout. Thanks for watching!

Hi Daniel. I have these 2 cover hopper cars but in Bachmann's versions as well. I always like your reviews on the models. What i noticed with the Couplers sent by the manufacturers they hang down i also observed on your review with the CONRAIL brown box car. It looks more like an overset coupler hanging down. They may as well put an underset medium size coupler so the coupler height gauge is leveled. I was surprised at the wobble on the other Hopper car. Maybe a weight inside to balance the car body interior floor as you installed them on the CONRAIL brown boxcar. Good reviews & test Daniel. 👍

The couplers on the cars I reviewed have center set shanks, but they did droop a lot. These two InterMountain cars aren't mine so I didn't make any attempt at corrections. Wobble can usually be solved by tightening one of the bolster screws so that the truck can swing side to side but not rock. I'm glad you liked the review. Thanks for watching!

Hi Dan. You did great again. I like the part of the video where you're giving us an honest thought. I don't own any grain hopper cylinders by I remember I bought one CN kit in the beginning of the 90's. You're damn right, Intermountain was ahead of it's time. There was like to many detail parts back then ! Those two cars look great. I also agree about missing cut levers... all today's detailed cars have some. I'm mostly disappointed by couplers height AND how small see thru ends platforms look bended when you were checking couplers height. It's so obvious. There should be no body wobbling on any recent models. For me, it's just a lack of quality control. I'm also giving them a green signal. Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad you liked the review and the expanded "My Take" segment. I think I'll keep doing that. There is still some room for improvement with these cars, but I like it that some of the hardest things (like replacing the roofwalk with a photo etched part) are now done for you. Thanks for watching!

@@DanielCortopassi Hi again. As a railroad modeler, I wish that there were more "serious" reviews on KZbin. I think every modeler would agree that things have greatly upgraded for us in the past 25 years. Especially since all the stuff is made in China. For us modelers, we've entered in a whole new world when it happened a few years ago. For better or for worst, we're getting much much more than we were used to. Even if there's always room for improvement (as you said) things have changed drastically in modeling. And I'm glad to be part of it. Regards.

In my standards, those Intermountain Cars would fail my inspection and review. I was going to purchase those covered hoppers. I am glad I've avoided those models.

I'm glad you found the review helpful. I have done some work to my cars to bring them up to snuff. These newer ones are much better in appearance and operation, though I'd still want to add uncoupling levers. Thanks for watching!
