These can have the anvils switched out for double wire but the ones here are really meant for single wire. These are neat but in reality they just aren't a lot more useful then a normal set of pliers.

The KD #429 has the ratcheting feature like the PCL.

I have both of those pairs. I had machined the KDs to have new inserts so that they can work on the newer hose clamps. I had finally broke down and had bought a set of Blue Points so I put the old inserts back in the KDs. Must have like six different pair of hose clamp pliers.

I have a pair of WILDE's from my grandfather that he cobbled back together with a wire in place of a missing e clip, and they are my Go-to for lawn mower work. They also have the locking feature and I quite like them. They to me work much better than tongue and groove or slipjoint pliers because you can swivel the anvils if you need to get in at a different angle.

You can modify regular slip joint pliers to do the same thing. Drill a hole in the tip of the closed jaws, another from the side, and then one on each side of the opened jaws at the intersection. Mine have been great on single wire clamps.

I use the Mayhew 28680 and it’s fantastic. Ratchets in small increments and’ll hold until you unlock it

After fighting for hours with one of these double wire band hose clamps in my Frigidaire (Electrolux) washing machine, I resolved to buy the right kind of tool in case I ever encounter one in the future. You don’t know how disappointing it is for you to tell me that what I was already using (channel locks) is somehow “better.” Ugh. Also, FWIW, this one was a bit bigger than the ones you demonstrate with so I don’t take much comfort in hearing that they are “usually a bit smaller” than the one you are demonstrating with.

This was so helpful Catus. i have wondered whether channel locks would work as well as special spring hose clamp pliers. This has answered a question i have had for a long time. Thank you buddy!!! Where is Tiny - inquring minds want to know.

I’ve been a tech for over 10 years and never seen a hose clamp like that. At least on a vehicle. They would work a hell of a lot better on a regular style clamp .

Count yourself lucky. I just encountered one inside a front load washing machine and it was an absolute nightmare. There wasn’t enough clearance to open a set of channel locks under the drum and any attempt to do it with pliers would always lose at least one of the split barbs. The only way was to open the clamp with pliers while outside the machine, then hold over the barb, then use one hand to work the soft rubber “hose” onto the barb which has pesky castellations to make that extra-difficult, then try to work the clamp over the raised rubber lip on the hose without slipping… if you hadn’t slipped already… which you’ve probably done 20x before even getting that far and even when you get that far it will invariably release from the pliers in an uncontrolled way due to one of the split tangs slipping out before the other. I can’t tell you how many times this left my soft rubber “hose” with one of the two bands slipped off on one side, buckling the “hose” such that there was a gap for water to come right out. I keep putting “hose” in quotes because it’s really a large molded rubber box thing that acts as a coin catcher for the drain pump. It has two other hose-like protrusions clamped to two other fittings so you have this big rubber box in your way, forcing you to come at the clamp from an angle that just _does not work_ for a double band hose clamp. You always end up clamping the loop to one of the two tangs.

Reminds me of the ClampTite tool (metal wire clamp thingie). I'd enjoy of a vid of the cat playing with those.

The locking feature is nice or you can use vice grips.
